I wouldn't replace the bearings unless they are noisy or gritty feeling. So what if they're dry? What's it going to do, turn into a bomb? No, it will just progressively over years at normal homeowner usage get a little noisier and noisier. So what?

The old bearings can also seize and spin in the housings, or worse, scar the rotor shaft. Then you'd be looking for a new housing or rotor. Or jury-rigging something with JB Weld. I had to part out a really nice 1/2hp Pre-Block because the "noisy bearings" had ruined the shaft.

Hi Matt,

Got a 257.191400 with this label that I would like to get a reprint for.
Seems you didn't do one of those before?
Here's a picture:

Size is 111mm (w) x 98mm (h).
Please let me know whether you can help and what I would owe you.
Will also send you a PM for easier communication.

Thanks for doing this!
Cheers
GS

I think i want to thin my block grinder collection. I have a 1HP or a 3/4HP block grinder if anyone is seriously looking for one or the other. I don’t need top dollar but I’m not going to give them away. I also have some 1/2HP blocks.

I am picking up a block grinder tomorrow. It is wired for 230.
Is it pretty straight forward.....meaning easy.
To rewire to 115?

Yes, it involves moving some wires on the relay and switch. And you'll need to make a jumper/shunt wire with 1/4" female spade connectors.

On the inside of the bottom cover, there should be a wiring diagram with step by step directions to convert to 230V (just reverse the order).

If not, post the model number and I'll check my 'library' for the proper one.

Seattle Craigslist pick up today for $25
This thing runs like new. Was only used to sharpen lawn mower blades.

Picked this up this morning for $75. Its a 115.7575. The tool rest on the right is homemade and the sideshield is cracked. I'll probably just use that side for a wire wheel. I actually sold my 1hp block to buy it. I do my best to make sure that no funds come out of our bank account to make tool purchases that I don't really truly need. Honestly, the 1hp was cool but was way too powerful for my needs. The 115.7575 definitely has a lot of power and has found a home in my garage.

That is a nice score! 3/4-HP?

I'm thinking it took a fall and lost those RH bits. They may prove hard to find by themselves, it maybe easier to buy a whole parts Block. But be warned, that can lead to endless purchases. :lol_hitti

I imagine the bearings on that Pre-block were very noisy or rough feeling (by simply turning the grinding wheel over by hand) at that point. Of course you should change them then, but just to do it for the sake of doing it is to my mind a waste of money and time. The guys on the OWWM forum are really big into advising people to change bearings as a matter of course and I think it's bad advice.
After all, when you buy a used car do you automatically change out all the wheel bearings?

Of course, you must do what you want to do.

I would post photos, but I forgot to take it out of the trunk of my wife's car, and she's off to work!!!

Also got a like new Craftsman hand saw for a buck.

And stopped by the scrap yard and picked up some sheet aluminum.

Glad I held onto the bench top base and post. After mounting the drill press on a floor mount.
The height worked out perfect for the new grinder.

Looks to me like you will be tripping over the former drill press base plate? Maybe flip the base around with the pole opposite the wall and the grinder facing away from wall?

I built the top plate to hang forward of the post. Works great.

Two 1 HP grinders in one week. Picked this one up on offerup today.
Has the heavy duty base, and a nice Craftsman stand.
Runs great, just needs a clean up.

Ok, I just have to know, how did you get that guy to meet on offerup??? I've been bugging him for three days now within an hour of it posting. I couldn't get more that one word answers from him and he wouldn't accept my full price offer three times in a row!!!!
