Let's see your exterior lights

I'm about to select my exterior lighting. One light above my 16x7 garage door, one on the "man door" on the outside wall of the garage. Just wondering what everyone else is using.

I installed three lights. One gable end 100 watt metal halide. One motion light over the service door. And two metal halide 100 watt floods for lighting on the basketball court at night.

I went with a simple approach. One light on either side of the doors. I use 13W CFL bulbs in them and leave them on 24/7 during the winter.

That is one heavy duty fixture, but then it should be for $1200. I am a little surprised to see it is only rated to handle a max of 500W.

I am using a $150 fixture from Lithonia for my floodlighting needs that has a 1500W quartz lamp.

My floods are not on the garage. I have two of these 1500W fixtures installed about a 100' from the garage on photocell/motion sensors.

When someone comes on my property anywhere near the garage, these suckers come on and lights up the outside around and three sides of my garage like the sun just came out!

Also went with the simple solution, similar, to Al in Manitoba's. Except my bulbs are 12V Christmas tree lighting and the two bulbs are wired in series. A lot of lighting is not needed at this location and it was done more for effect. These lights are controlled by a "daylight sensor" and provide a light very much resembling a large candle. Over the door are brighter lights controlled by a motion detector for security.

The 12V power pack (for garden lights) came from a neighbour who was tossing it out.

$150 for a 1500w quartz in that style seems really expensive. You can get the Hubbell QL1500 which is a much heavier duty fixture for $70-$80

It was a gift from a friend in the salvage business, I Wouldnt/couldnt shell out that kind of cash for a light.

Not sure what your referencing when you say "much heavier duty".
Same housing material, lens, gasket, and yoke. Same size also.
I would consider these to be equals on a fixture schedule but if I had to choose one over the other I would take the Lithonia over the Hubbell (Columbia) due the superior photometrics provided by a superior reflector.

The price I quoted is the retail price. Based upon your choice of supply house and buying power, you can get either one for about the same price range as you stated.

No, none of the flood lights are centered to the doors.

However, I centered the lights to each half of the 26x48 approach. This is because my goal was to light the approach.

Wow! That thing has a punch. Looks like you could throw light a couple city blocks away.

Put that sucker on a motion sensor and you would scare off (or at least blind) any would be trespasser.

These are Lightolier 17" Arco coach lights, and a Lightolier Bristol hooded eyelid style above the man door. I want to add 4" recess lights with sealed shower trims in the front eve and along the sides. Kept an eye out over the previous few years for bargains and scored bigtime on these.
