Who's got a computer in their garage? Post up pics!

I usually just take my laptop out there and use it, but planning on putting a LCD screen, mouse and key board out there so I don't get the laptop dirty.

Laptop in and out in a bag. No place for a monitor - flat or otherwise - and sure as hell no place to put a CPU box. I network back to the main house PC via wireless. The laptop plays DVDs, so no need for a TV either. Disk space on the laptop isn't a problem, the house PC as 1.5TB of storage attached.

I use a laptop with a HDMI connector so I can put DIY videos and schematics up on the big screen.

Here's mine. It uses 6 watts, less than 1 watt on standby. 4"x4.5"x1".

My Daughter used this Old HP for years, I got her a laptop 2 years ago and now I use the Old but Trusty HP in my garage.
Updated software and added a Sony DVD-player recorder.
Its on top of a very Heavy Steel "Tanker" Desk, and I modified an old Racing bucket seat for my Chair.
It gets very dirty from doing bodywork and painting, but I just blow it off once a week and It keeps going.
I may put the tower in the cabinet area of the desk and just have the mouse, keyboard and monitor out. Some day!

Here's mine. My computers go to the garage when they have served their time in the house. Soon I'll make a trip to the city dump and they go out there.

Instead of the dump take them to your local electronics recycler. Computers contain a lot of hazardous materials and most of the component insides can be recycled. What isn't recyclable is disposed of correctly.

Electronics recycling is usually free. If it isn't the price is usually very cheap if you have to pay. Do yourself and future generations a favor by getting rid of it the right way.

We have electronics recycling at our dump. The city takes care of that if I just haul them out there.

here are some pics of my computer setup. it is an older alienware computer with a good dvd drive and a good sound card. I like to say that what it lacks in speed and power it makes up for in size. it has an amplifier and subwoofer and 2 good bose component speakers so for a guy who is not much of an audiophile it works great. I use itunes and online radio. surf garage journal etc. wireless keyboard and optical mouse. I have a wirless link with a signal booster. I also have my old laptop out there in my lounge area. I also have my little coiled air hose to blow everything off.

I have been amazed. since I put in my air system the air that comes out of the hose is very dry. I would not have blown off my computer with it before when I just had the hose running from the compressors. I would have moisture on my hand if I blew air on it. now it comes out very dry.

I love alienware computers. that computer is about 8 years old but is still fine for internet and things like that. my garage laptop is an alienware also. I was having some problems with it at work running some newer software it needed more memory so I bought a new alienware laptop and brought this one to the garage. I admit it I am a geek. I love computers and I buy a new one about every 4 years then I usually give the old ones to my kids but this year they both wanted netbooks for christmas so I will just keep this one for a garage laptop.

That's impressive actually. Most municipal dumps just throw it in with the rest of the trash.

FYI - Best Buy has an electronics recycling program. Check it out on their site. You will have to remove the hard drive though.
