Here's one for ya. I can't remember if the stickers were to raz the yahoos I used to work with or if they were put on for a photo shoot. If I could find the kodachrome and scan it that would be the one to post. I took shots of a stripper with this and climbing gear starting up a spar tree. (well, she had a little more than just that on). I did wear this when I was logging with the stickers on too. Everyone on the crew always tried to out brag how good they were and so this was part of my "greased lightning" look.

i always liked those full brim aluminum hats. the ones they make today are getting cheaper and cheaper in quality.

I was on a job in Vegas and a bunch of the workers had some cool hard hats with a bunch of stickers. Looked like they had been around for a LONG while.

I had to go through a safty course to get on site (along with a piss test) and they mentioned that the hard hat had to pass inspection. Seems the hats have an experation date or a made on date on them. We were told the hats HAD to be within the proper dates to be worn.

LOTS of the union folks had hats that were FAR past the expertion date...

Wonder how THEY got away with it...

kevin, ive never seen osha hardhat rules enforced. they arent supposed to be worn backwards either (see AZ_Catskinners pic haha (tough lookin hat btw)) and they say no stickers but then some companies require them for hazard training. oh well.

chris05gto, coal keeps the lights on! we do some surface mine structure construction in KY/VA for a company owned by arch. i see ya keep that hat on a healthy "wheat" diet!

There's some exceptions to the backward hardhat rule - the FibreMetals like mine and some others (MSA Skullgards and Jacksons) are designed and certified to be worn either way, and those who weld regularly can get away with it as well.

The aluminum hard hats are cool, but I don't know where you could wear them. I have been working construction since 1975 and have always been told that they were illegal because they can conduct electricity.

I have a standard lime green plastic MSA V-Gard hat here at work. Rarely need to use it though. Just once every other week or so when I go down to the boat.

Working in nuke plants and some of the other places require it... No camera though (regulations at work).

Kind of a PITA since there's rarely anything to be guarding against where I go, but rules is rules.

Nothing to exciting on mine, just some safety stickers.

Also there is no official expiration on hard hats OSHA/MSHA just says it needs to be in good condition and not faded from UV light. MSA recommends replacing your hard hat every 5 years and the suspension yearly. Also as long as it is certified by the manufacturer it can be worn backwards and I know MSA skull guards and V-guards are certified as such.

Just for the heck of it I will also attach my Made in this month casting as well.

If I make it home and remember I will pull out the couple of drilling companies hard hats I have and my old hard hat from when I was mining.

OSHA is enforcing the no backwards hats rule in the Northeast at least.

Sometimes you just can't win, even with one certified for use backwards.

Some of these new safety guys can't be reasoned with.

I say, "Fine, then I guess I can't weld."

Then the steward says "The **** you're not!" and promptly runs the kid off.

But then he comes back with the GC, who also instructs him to **** the hell off.

My hats are a mess of local stickers from everywhere I've been. Too lazy to get one out of the truck ATM...

The only hard hat I have these days protects the shelf in my office, and that's just fine with me. I've spent enough days in the field underneath one.

Haw! Nope, not me but never seen another lightning bolt on a hard hat before.

The full brim hard hats were mandatory in the bush. If you walk through a forest take note of the 20' long spears you see sticking out of the ground. They may look like saplings growing out of the ground but lots of them are limbs that rubbed against another tree and broke off at the trunk. They fall from 100 - 120 feet or so and the heavy end comes first and stick right in the ground when they land. Active logging opens up new venues for wind and there is more of this activity going on than normal. They are called widow makers and the full brim hard hat is idea for deflecting them (in theory).
