The XYL gave me a new Leatherman Wave for xmas, I've have had the two original Leathermans for 30 years or so, I got the stainless steel original for Xmas in 1984 right after they first came out, my best friend gave me the black
oxide version for Xmas a couple years later.
Below is a pix of the 2 originals and the new Wave, I really like it, especially
the locking tools, I can't tell you how many time I've been bit by the old one's
tool folding up at exactly the wrong time.

^ ^ I see what you did there RADIO Ron !! That's "ham" talk. ;)

Those are nice, they just have a few tools in them that I'd never use.

That's been my issue with a lot of these tools over the years. On some models out there, I would never have a use for at least half of the tools. I have an old Leatherman original Supertool, and it gets a bruising workout at least once a month or more. Still works fine.

I'll get pics up later today.

Orcas are the most fascinating animals on the planet! Their level of intelligence is in my eyes second to none. By far, my favorite animal....now in response to your comment, the leathermen that I have purchased all were purposefully selected. The different models are almost tailored to anyone, with different combinations and such. I sincerely have used every tool on my wave, and more importantly have needed to use them. Wire stripper I love, bottle opener actually use it to "man a switch" at work so I can be away from the control panel, scissors, knife, both saws, file, pliers, you name it. I can't really afford to buy things cuz they look cool, I'm looking for the best value for my dollar, and with my leathermen, nothing goes to waste.

"Orca" = my callsign (nickname) from the Navy. They're one of our favorite animals here too.

Years ago, on another forum, we had a weeks-long debate on the plural usage of "Leatherman". Is it "Leathermans"? "Leathermen"? "Leathersman"? The thread became a hilarious grammar non-lesson. The mods were threatening to head-smack everybody if they didn't let it die.

I like the Wave, and I've had three, but I always end up trading them away because my old Gerber 600 & Leatherman Supertool do what I need. However, I'm sure I'll be buying the Wave again when I start back to work.

My son has a Leatherman Wingman, as do a lot of the Scouts in his Troop. It's a great tool for the price.

Just has to warranty my squirt ps4 because the scissors spring broke. The return process was a breeze, just gotta wait and see what comes back in the mail!! First leatherman failure in 20 years and 5 tools so its not a bad rate...

I've had this Super Tool 300 since 2011 time frame while I was in Afghanistan. I had another one just like it, but I foolishly lent it to a buddy who managed to snap the tips off the pliers trying to open the blast door lock on an MRAP. I wish I had known about that warranty then though. All well.

Ha. If I were doing an essay I probably would write Leathermans, as the name shouldn't change...wait.....adding an s still changes the name....I guess the plurality is a toss up lol.

My wingman I just got is nice, only thing is the torx screw that holds the wood saw gets loose frequently.

One of the Scouts in our troop had the same issue; his dad took the screw out and used (I think) clear nail polish on the threads. Seems to work to keep it from loosening - so far.

I have a 1st gen Wave and a Flair. I have had both over 10 years.

Once when I could not find my Wave, I took my Flair to work. The pate knife sure got the laughs. I bought the Flair for the corkscrew.

My sidekick and flashlight. I do like the blade and saw on the outside. I can pull from sheath and open blade in one smooth motion. I wish the inside tools locked, I've been bit once or twice :shocking: The full size saw is ok but I would prefer another straight blade. I'd like to keep one extremely sharp for cutting and one just sort of sharp for scraping. I find I use it to scrape all kinds of **** up.

Huh. I took mine apart one day and put it right back, just the way it was... took me a while to notice but it's been good since then. Weird.

Sounds like you need to upgrade to a Wave. A tiny bit heavier, but everything locks.

TSC has them for 10 DOLLARS. Yeah. 10. (MSRP is 79.99ish)

Here is my Surge. I've had it a few years. It replaced my original that I caried for about 20 years. Never leave home without it!

Some sorta mistake though. Save 10$? More like save 60-70$. Must've gotten the wave and sidekick mixed up. Called down to my local ts and they were cleared out.

Old thread but I have Old original Leatherman PST. Actually a few... Always keep spares. With that I lost one at home about 4 years ago during a move while opening boxes. I Spent too much time looking for it and figured it just slipped into a box. Well, it did! While looking for a part today it finally surfaced. Happy Day. :)(y)
I have been pocket carrying the PST for well over 25 years now. Use it daily. I have always looked at the newer models but none are as compact and have every feature of the original without getting big.

I bought a few extras on ebay shortly after 911 when the TSA was confiscating.

Here are the now 2 in the current use mode. Clips I made from cheap junker LED flashlight clips. Clip takes up the gap of the removed lanyard ring. These are dated 10/96 & 06/94

I’ve carried the Skeletool that several people mentioned for maybe ten years now. Compact and light, always clipped in my pocket. I use the knife more than anything else but having the pliers can be very convenient.
