Let’s see your mezzanine/loft

I’d like to see your mezzanine/loft setups. I’m building a 40x64x16 soon and need some inspiration.

Look at my build in my signature line below. If you know that your building a loft then plan for it in the build. Don't add it as an after thought. Mine was planned in but not finished till later. It was an easy finish because I had structure already in place to support it.

I'll try to attach some sketches. About half of my 52x40 (now delayed until March) will have a loft. The front is dormered with a 2/12 pitch on the front. This gives excellent head room over the whole area except for a few feet in from the back wall. The trade off for this space is the verticle beams necessary for support.

Mancave area, about 450sf. Small kitchen, bath with shower, area that guests could stay short term. Balcony off the back of the mezzanine.

Mine, one before I decked it. The I-beam for the hoist was designed into the build along with the loft. Hoist supports 1 ton lifts.

Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread but some beautiful tools there... is that a Northfield 16" joiner hiding back there?

Don't really have any great pictures of it as it's right now, but here are some in various states of completion.
Basically used for parts storage, overflow fluids/chemicals and a little coffee corner to enjoy a cup after work, looking down into the shop...

Steve, do you have any details on the electric raised stairs - thinking this may be my savior when I build my loft in the future.

I went with room-in-roof attic trusses, which gave me a 12' wide by 30' long attic with an 8' 1" ceiling in the middle and 5' 4" at the sides.



I access the attic (for now) with drop down attic stairs between two truss bottom chords... so only 22" wide

Our acreage had a 38'x88' pole shed with a 6' grain knee wall. The previous owner had an enclosed shop 9x32' against the outside wall inside one of the man doors. It has 2x4 walls sheeted with plywood and 2x10 stringers across the top with 1x6 barn flooring above. I reinsulated the lower for my shop office. I added stairs to get to the top and we use it for storage.

Bad pic of mine with all the junk from moving in and getting stuff settled. Best part was putting in the permanent stairs you can see in the back. Very nice to take things up and down. Total mezzanine is 40 ft length x 8 ft width. It is about 6.5 ft clearance up there so very nice to be able to stand up and not crouched over. I don't keep real heavy stuff up there, mostly large bulky items. Can't see in the pic, but I built shelves all along the long side wall for smaller boxes.
