Back in 1976 (I was 14 yo) I got a job at the Mobil Service Station (remember those)? My boss, an old cranky hardnose SOB had no use for tool boxes. His tools were all placed on pegboards lining the benches on the backwall of the shop. They spanned the entire 2 bay service area. Every tool was shadowed and if the tools weren't back on the boards at days end no one could leave and all Hell would break loose! I wish I had some photos. It was a pretty impressive site. Especially to a Tool less teenage gearhead like myself. If you've got security this is a really cool and inexpensive way to display/use your tools. Great thread idea! Thanks!

Ive got a small section of pegboard over my workbench. It has some wrenches, pliers and screw drivers hanging on it that have been retired from my main tool box. When the wife or kids come get a tool 99% of the time they grab one off the board and leave my "good stuff" alone

I prefer a little more custom solution to hanging tools on the wall. I've built a Reconfigurable Tool Rack, with Custom Tool Boards for my tools. While I don't have many tool boards built so far, eventually I plan to have CTB's for most of my air tools, riveting tools, and drill bits and other consumables...

Pegboard is great. Even when it's not pegboard and you're just using the idea to keep some tools easily accessible.

It would be too slow to have to go open a drawer every time I needed a #2 Phillips.

Hammers would get tangled up in a drawer.

This stuff becomes available as soon as the welding table folds down.

I've put this photo in other threads; most recently on the "What's on your Walls" thread. But in the interest of keeping like ideas together for future searchers, here it is again:

This is my implementation of some other GJ'ers idea. I'm above claiming it as my own but not above stealing it!

I'm currently in-process on going through a total reset of my garage. An old storage area with 25-30 ft. of pegboard the PO put in will now be my main shop area and I am collecting pegboard organization ideas. I plan to use this idea applied to wrenchs and other stuff. Those magnetic rails are available at Harbor Freight for I THINK $1.89 with a coupon. The socket rails I use as spacers are even cheaper I think. I'll post photos when I get it done.

Yea, had a part of a roll left over from a home theater I built last fall. I just hooked it up with an old 12 volt trasformer I had laying around.

Don't even get me started. I love the stuff. There are some good arguments in the peg vs box thread that as you accumulate more tools boxes start to make more sense, but as of right now I'm all about the boards.

I've got it under all my bike caddies, and a little bit on my west wall:

Future plans call for boxing the south wall in with cabinets, in which I plan to do something like this:

Still not enough. Plan on making selving cabinets. When I box in the back of the cabinets I plan on using pegboard. That way I can store all the items that go with each device/powertool right in the same cubby hole. No going to look for the accessories in other places. Everything is nice3 and close by...

Will be starting that progect after the boat is dewinterized.....

I have white pegboard above my large workbench, also I did a short wall section in white pegboard because I liked the way it looked, also much easier covering the wall in pegboard than sheetrock, tape and mud work, texture, prime, paint, cleanup everything.

Insulate, put up pegboard, that's about it!

This is an older photo of my pegboard (that pegboard has alot more pegs and tools hanging on it now!) I had limited wall space and wanted to make the most of that spot under the garage door track, worked out great with some planning. Really helped me get organized and put the most commonly-used tools for those home repair/project jobs where I could find them.

P.S. those black cabinets I made my bench out of have roll-out drawers. Very handy! Store my power tools in them.

Thanks. Yeah, the toolbox near the door was an old cheapie roll around that my parents got me for my birthday a long long time ago. It was damaged (my fault) and never wanted to roll right. So I pulled the plastic top and casters off and hung it.

How do you keep it clean when you drill/grind/scrape/leak stuff?

Yeah, it's outdoor patio carpet. It has a few oil stains on it but not much. I vacuum it occasionally to pick up sawdust and steeldust when I make it, it was cheap and it's nice to lay down on. If I'd had the cash I would have gone with epoxy, but I like it for now.

I am going to post this here. It might not be peg board but it is the same idea.

I do find peg board somewhat restricting, using screw in hooks and even some modified peg poard components this is what the guys at work came up with.

It has been posted before.

I've posted this before but your nicely lined up chisels & punches made me wonder if you'd like seeing THIS:

Someone else posted this idea before me; I just copied it. $2.99 magnetic strip and cheapo socket rack both from Harbor Freight. I'm considering using the same approach for a lineup of pliers and possibly screwdrivers too.
