My snap-on man just called and he has picked up my new box, and will deliver it Friday. I am interested in seeing how current owners have packed the two full length drawers, and has anyone bought any accessories like body guards, drawer guards etc. THANKS

I don't have a KRL1022 but I have the previous box they made before that. It has the drawer guards and it's awesome. I have another KR box and I'm semi restoring it and instead of painting the drawers I'm just adding the stainless drawer guards.

I have a 1022, I can try a take some crappy cell phone pics tomorrow. Overall I am kind of mixed about the layout. The top drawer is 5" deep. All sockets stand up in, my techangle torque wrench boxes stack on top of each other nice. The second drawer is 3" tall. It has always just collected what fit in it. First it was boxes, electric tools and tap/die kit. Then I picked up a heavy duty chest and put on top, I basicly emptied that drawer in the top box. It was boarder line empty for a long time until it collected enough **** to look full again. Now there are some boxes, pry bars over 30", 3/4" ratchet and breaker bar and other odds and end. Personally I like the older single top drawer, both where available at the time I bought mine. I find the second drawer too shallow for some big tools that are too long for the lower drawers.
It's a great box, I bet you will be happy.

I think the second full length drawer would be the perfect drawer for all your wrenches and longer items. If you can't fit those longer items into the shallow drawer you STILL have the upper deep one. I think it would be a waste of space to use the shallow drawer as a catch all/ junk drawer. Either way I think it just needs a locker on the side for the bigger items in cases.

Here are the top two drawers in my KRL722, they're the same width but 24" deep instead of 30. If it was a KRL1022 or 7022, I would keep sockets in the top and wrenches in the second - but more of both :)

ricleh, what are those T-handle swivel socket wrenches?

Those are from KTC (Kyoto Tool Co.). 10mm, 12mm, 14mm & 17mm in standard and extra long also including an extra long 3/8" drive. I like to use T-handles when possible. They are great for motorcycles and lawn and garden equipment. They come in handy with automobiles sometimes too.

No, I don't need that many torque wrenches (actually I have quite a few more of the click style). I just can't seem to pass up a really good deal when I come across one. I plan to sell several of my torque wrenches.

I bought my KRL1022 from a trade school graduate who had bought the box new when in school . After starting to work in the profession, he thought otherwise and bailed out.
Yes I got a very good deal, relative to retail (Who pays S.O. retail anyway ?)

I generally love the box, however hate the deep lower left drawer. S.O. designs for the masses, but I'd much rather have more drawers/more square inches to store hand tools ( not welding helmets and skill saws). I know I can buy more drawers and slides, but at S.O. prices, that will never happen.

I'm a Chevy fan and like the Orange color. Anybody else like Electric Orange. Sure not very often seen around these parts (Garage Journal.com)

CamarosRus that's a nice setup! Check out what I did with my deep drawer. I had the same opinion as you before my latest reorganization, but I like it now. I built the little hanging boxes, some are cardboard and some are aluminum. One of my friends did the same thing, but he has ~15 die grinders and it saved him a ton of space.

Camarosrus, I dig the orange. I ordered Royal Blue. I am going to put tools with cases in the
deep lower left drawer until I get a locker.

Afazz, what kind of wrench racks are those?

I had a little play money from wheeling and dealing (and my tax return), so I decided that it was finally time to upgrade into a regular toolbox, even though I really didn't really need to. It was sort of a now or never kind of deal, so I gave my modded Snap-on KRSC46 cart(s) to my father

Wheels%20%20tires_zpsx87qzoir.jpg

I then kept a watchful eye out for any deals on a KRL722 as I never liked 'deep' boxes, I still don't, actually. It seems that they are not as common as the bigger (deeper) drawers so I figured the money would be best spent on a KRL7022. I located one and then purchased it about 200 miles South of me. It was a nice used KRL7022 in Extreme Green with the black trim for $2,500, which is just how I like my boxes. A little more than I wanted to pay and felt it was truly worth on the open market, but figured I'd splurge since I wouldn't have to change the trim color later on...

As luck would have it, literally a few days later I happen across a brand new KRL1022 in Extreme Green for sale and I was able to purchase it for $2,500, as well. It was a little further away, 430 mile (each way), but I road trip to get stuff very often and well worth it.
By brand new, I mean the handle has never been installed and is still sealed in it's protective shipping bag, as were the drawer liners!
I then scored a mint stainless steel top on my local Craigstlist for $350.

Wheels%20%20tires%20008_zpsunkzh3tr.jpg

A sharp box, too be sure, however I wanted more drawers and nothing makes the gorgeous Extreme Green color pop more than when it has the black drawer trim...
So I was lucky enough to purchase a second KRL1022 in Extreme Green with a black rhino-lined steel top and black trim off my "local" Craigslist. This box was only 100 miles (each way) from me and cost a mere $2,400!

20170409_174522_zpsbfs4eejv.jpg

Now I had my choice of drawers, black trim, and whatever else I wanted to pirate to customize my new 1022 to my liking. I didn't want to get too crazy, since I was in way over my head and comfort zone as far as cash out of pocket, so I wanted to keep things simple as I needed to get it completed immediately so that I could get the 7022 and extra 1022 back on the market in order to get my money back from them a.s.a.p.

Here are all three boxes in their original as purchased configurations...
(My new 1022 is not easy to spot, hiding between the two inside my garage)

20170409_175246_zpsv2jobvbo.jpg

Time to get to work, so I pulled an all-nighter and removed all the drawers from all three boxes and most of the ball bearing slides as well to be able to customize the drawer layout to my (current) satisfaction...

Here is the end result and my 'custom' Extreme Green 17-drawer KRL1022 with black Rhino-lined top and black trim:

All Snap-on sockets, yes even the 3/8" swivels in the Cornwell metal holders...

The wrench drawer, all Snap-on Flank Drive PLUS (except for the very largest of sizes because they only make those in the Flank Drive series)...

This is what the 7022 and extra 1022 now with the stainless top turned out like...

I actually just sold the KRL7022 last night for $2,350 + $100 to deliver it (150 miles).

Here is the 'extra' 1022 with stainless steel top. I currently have it listed locally for $2800 (FIRM).

I realise this is a very old thread, but first I have read the response. While I see a lot guys using the 3" wide drawer for wrenches, for me it doesn't work. The 3" drawer has been a catch all for stuff that doesn't fit well eles where. Length is one thing, but also a lot of stuff that doesn't fit in a 2" drawer height wise. My 4" and deeper drawers filled up fast so the 3" drawer was all that was left for a lot of stuff to go.

Picked this one up a couple months ago off Craigslist. Two days later the stainless top popped up on Craigslist as well. Other than a couple of small scratches at the bottom it looks like it never had a tool in it.

Man I had to go double check that real quick. Sure enough. Lol. I was looking at both and got the better deal on this box. Looks like I haven't missed the drawer configuration yet.

It is easy to tell them apart, the 1022 is 4" taller as it has an extra 4" drawer on both the small and wide bank.
That is the only difference, and why a 1022 is 4" taller and has 13 drawers (instead of 11 on the 7022).
The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at the short bank...the 7022 only has the three 2" drawers and the big 10" drawer...the 1022 adds the 4" drawer between them.
