Problem I have, is that Im done, before the machine even warms up.
Busted: Do you find that your skid steer scoots sideways with all that blade? I have heard from a couple of people that scooting is a real issue, but none of those folks have larger machines. What size is yours? Assuming that was true, I built this for my 84" construction bucket. http://s862.photobucket.com/albums/ab184/johnny10k/ john

A very Large Toro Key start snow blower that my Father-in-law bought in the winter of 1969...During the Big Snow Storm of '69 in Chi-Town!

I rebuilt it and use it every winter. Goes through an entire Tank of Gas doing my Driveway, but throws snow and slush like noones business!

He Paid around $900 back in '69 for the Beast!

Another 69 going strong, but a Simplicity.

Finally found snow too deep for it.

The only thing so far that stopped the Ol' Toro was a Frozen Newspaper that was in my Neighbors driveway.
Jammed in there real tight...Took a torch and burned it out.
Fired it up and blew ash 20 feet...Funny as Hell!!!

Love that Photo Mr N.

Some of you guys get some serious snowfalls. I remember them in Cleveland, but I also remember that many subsequently melted away. Ya never know what Cleveland is gonna throw at you.

I used to have the same machine. Worked great I finally had to throw it out. I had worn though the metal in the chute.

That's a funny comment from somebody that lives in Alaska.........
I know it sounds funny, but the Interior does not get large snowfalls very often. In 35 yrs up here, I can only remember a handful of times when I thought it was a good idea to plow before we left for work. A 6-8" dump is rare. I remember a few springs ago that we got about 8" in latter April, as I had just cleared several driveways of hard pack and a couple folks had to call me back. I often don't need that frame I built for my dirt bucket, as there is not enough snow to push it full. It is still nice for moving piles and/or wind rows. Valdez is another story, as they get something like 20-24' each year.

Here is our road last year. They couldn't make it to the stop sign due to the tall snow drifts. We couldn't go anywhere for 2 days. The last picture is of a snow blower at a local railroad.

No snow yet this year but I'm ready.

Incidentally, I backed the skid out of the garage today to vacuum the floor. As I was getting out the pocket of my sweatshirt caught the left control lever causing the whole skid to swing to the right putting the bucket right through the service door of the garage. Guess I have one more project now before the snow does fly....haha.

Here's my rig. It's a Western Midweight 7 1/2 foot poly. The truck Is a `93 Chevrolet 1/2 ton.

We don't get much snow on the coast but when we do there is widespread panic. I'll be ready this year. They say we are going to get dumped on. I have a lawn maintenance business that keeps me busy from April 1st to October 31st. We had a good year. Any money I make with the plow we be bonus bucks.

First snowfall of the 2010-2011 season. When i first moved out to the country I thought I would stay in shape over the winter by shovelling my driveway.
First snowfall I spent 3 hours out there and was only half done. I drove in town and bought the plow for my Brute.

I have not had a want for power but traction has sometimes been an issue when the snow was really deep (like 14" snowfall) or wet and heavy.

My wife got me chains for the back wheels for an anniversary gift this year. That should really help the traction along. If I still need a little more I'll get fronts too. She knows how to treat a garage guy right!

Doesn't snow all that much around here. South Alaska, like around Valdez gets quite a bit, but not much elsewhere. If we got 4ft in total last winter I would be surprised.

Here's mine.

I've been using the bucket and box as it's what I have. The bucket is good, but of course the box moves the snow but packs up in it, so I have to drag around little piles then pick them up and move them with the bucket. Still beats the hand shoveling route for a 300' driveway.

I've been planning for a couple years to buy a 3 point 72" snow blade before winter, but I keep putting it off. :dunno:

And pops usually has this at his house cause it's the only one that will fit in the garage:

And for small stuff I have a toro 7/24 snowblower

I'm not sure how to guys do it with a bucket. Tried that once and parked the tractor for the winter. About the only thing it was good for was building up the snow banks. For snow removal it was much much faster with the plow on the truck.
In fact the next year my Dad built a plow mount for the bucket arms on his tractor and the bucket gets put away.

For me it was just alot of backtracking and extra time. But it gets the drive and road out front clear. It does kinda ****, and is why I really want a blade.

There is no question about the superiority of a blade over a bucket if all you are doing is moving the snow sideways. The bucket has the advantage of being able to handle the really deep snow, and cart it off somewhere. I use a bucket that I built side and back rails for, (links above, I think) to enlarge it quite a bit. That was very helpful, but if I "did snow" a lot, I'd also have a blade to quickly stack the shallower snowfalls in a wind row, then attack it w/ the bucket if need be.

Mine has a bucket in front and either a blade or snowblower in the rear, depending on how much snow is on the ground. A neighbor pushes with a blade on a pickup and the piles get deep enough that he can't push enough to get it all off the road sometimes. That's where the bucket comes in handy.

There's no way I'd want to move snow with just a bucket though.

Makes sense. My Dad's tractor also has a blower on the back of it as well.

As for me, I have a 48" blower on the front of my Sears 20hp yard tractor. We don't get all that much snow here and my driveway is pretty small (about 3500sq ft) so it's plenty fine. I prefer the blower since I don't have much place to push snow and make banks without having to go all over the yard.

I'm not sure how to guys do it with a bucket.

Living in town without a lot of places to push it, a bucket is the only way. I end up with piles 6' tall and higher between the street and the sidewalk and in the back yards behind the houses along the driveway.

I do have a blade for the Bobcat as well. That does go faster if you only have a couple inches.

Gonna buy a new snow thrower next coupla of weeks . I like the idea of tracks vs tires I spent so much time fiddling with tires on stuff anyway the only down side i see is that it is way slow in reverse I was thinking of this:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_139978-270-..._prd_lis_ord_nbr|0||p_product_quantity_sold|1

I have about a grand to 1200 +/- to spend on this new toy.

My driveway is about 100' long 3 cars wide +/- I use that 16.5 carftsman with a blade attchment and wheel wieghts kit I posted this pic and I'll post again but I want a thrower I used one I paid 50 bucks to rent off this guy driving around my nieghborhood after the last blizzard it was a two stage snapper with a 30" +/- pick up it was the bomb it was wayyy better than finding a place to push the big drifts and it took about 1/3 the time any suggestions?

This is how I move my snow, when I throttle the **** out of it! It packs the driveway down well enough that I don't need to plow, etc.

You can't expect much out of a small "LT" tractor. That is just made to cut grass, and I'm surprised you were able to find a plow for it to be honest.

If you want to use a small tractor and make it actually do some work and not piss you off you need to look at a GT.
Then ditch the junk rear tires and get some weight on it.

I have about 450lbs on the back of mine. 26" ATV tires that are liquid filled (45lbs each) and 85lbs of wheel weights on each tire, then 5 40lb suitcase weights hanging off the back. Before I put the weight on it, trying to use the tractor was a joke. It was faster for me to hand shovel then to mess with the tractor.

Gonna buy a new snow thrower next coupla of weeks . I like the idea of tracks vs tires I spent so much time fiddling with tires on stuff anyway the only down side i see is that it is way slow in reverse I was thinking of this:

Ya Nate379 that blade and rig was a waste of a couple hundred. It works great for an inch or less but that blade folds down if it hits anything and the big problem is where to push the snow so a thrower is on deck. I'll prob buy that troy built it was on sale for 950 ish now it went back up but still it is a top contender the john deers are nice and the hondas are carzy expensive the carftsmans have MTD motors so not so sure about the pro series ones I like Briggs or kohler.

I don't even use that tractor to cut any more I pay this **** that is a stay at home mom and has a SCAG zero turn fancy pants mower she cuts almost an acre in a very short time often in a bikini top in the summer (quiet you saftey nazis its very pleasent) and charges my 30 bucks a pop so I'm staying with that plan no new tractor-new snow thrower and MILFY mow

We would appreciate some pics of this scenario please.

Thanks in advance. :)
