Here are some pics of my KRSC 416. I'm really happy with it, especially having a sliding top instead of the fold up top.

Wow. That's very nice. Where did you get the tool dividers in the top drawer?

That is a beautiful Snap On box. Love to own one but after just looking it up on line I will have to pass at $1600 for a service cart. Glad it works for you though.

Yeah, definitely wasn't cheap, but I didn't pay retail. I outgrew my previous cart (KRSC33) and got some good money for it, which reduced the pain. The sliding top sealed the deal for me and I'm a sucker that will pay a lot to improve my work efficiency. The joke at work is that, soon enough, I'll be dragging my KRL 1003 around the shop...

I've been watching this thread for inspiration and ideas, but to be honest, just a very few people on here seems to use a service cart for what it is. regardless of use, I think most service carts are too bulky.

So I went to IKEA yesterday to find a cabinet for out bathroom, when I stumbled upon this: http://www.ikea.com/no/no/catalog/products/50227973/

It measures only 35x45cm, perfect for me since I always work in between 2 cars that are pretty close to each other. No gimmick, only does what it should (in my opinion) do. And it is surprizingly sturdy, to be an IKEA cart. Here's mine with a few Westling machine socket holders test fitted (clickable) :)

Nothing special here. The one on the left is tools, the one in the middle is for electrical/wiring. The mess has long since been cleaned up. This was taken last Fall:

Where is that cart made? That would be handy where I work to hold all sorts of different types of clamps and such.

Nice collection of tool cabinets . . . I noticed them a little bit . . . however the timeless 1999 "garage art" looks mighty nice as well. Can't tell vintage of the other art, but looks good!!

Finally got a 5 drawer harbor freight tool cart. And just like a lot of other people, I'm definitely impressed by it! It is a pretty sturdy little cart. no mods to it yet though. Future plans include a locking screwdriver sidebox from Tooltopia, some conveyor belt attached to the top for a no-slip work area, snap on hinges, and some of the push on door trim stuff from the auto parts store, so the lid doesn't get scratched up on the underside.

Also got in my 2nd order from Westling Machine. Another full set of socket rails for me, and a set for my little bro. So now, I have a set for my shallow 6 pt and 12 pt sockets, and another full set for my deep sockets. Makes me want to buy more tools to fill in all of the gaps I have! Anyhow, quick run down of the drawers, which is what everyone wants to see anyhow.

Overall picture. My SK metric wrench roll and hardhat are laying in the bottom. In the aerosol tray, is all of my sockets I have in triplicate, from going through and inventorying them. 95% Proto and SK.

Underneath the top. All the loose sockets are all the stuff I have doubles of. Need to get a couple more socket rails, and get them all sorted, to throw them into a small box for my pickup for off-roading trips. Wera chiseldrivers on the left, ratchets and a couple extensions on the right.

Top drawer. Not sure what is going to end up in here when I'm done. Will probably be my metric ratcheting wrenches, once I get them all back from where I left them at my mother's.

2nd drawer, and big drawer on the right. Will end up being my fractional ratcheting wrenches. Big drawer has my Proto 12pc snap ring pliers.

Top wide drawer. My shallow sockets and crowsfoot wrenches.

Bottom drawer. My deep sockets.

Organization probably won't end up staying this way, but for now... It works. Looking forward to buying a house, so I won't have all my tools sitting in the bedroom of my apartment. Then, I'll be able to get me a 44" HF box, and will be able to move out some of the lesser used tools, like the snap ring pliers and flare nut wrenches.

you guys gotta stop posting pictures of the HF cart they are raising the price:lol: I will be getting one within a month money is tight right now. I read reviews on that cart and watched videos on youtube and everyone has rave reviews on it.

I was in Sears yesterday and looked at the tool chests and they want 10x as much and they are built like ****! I pulled a drawer out and I could pull it left to right with ease.

I've messed with those on the Cornwell truck before, they feel pretty good to me. About 3X what they get for the HF cart. I just comes down to what you want, and how you want to pay for it. I got lucky and found a Mac on CL before i ordered one.

matco and cornwell both have a cart like that. i have a 2 drawer badged as a matco, which i like and use extensively. i also got it used, i would not pay retail or even any of the sale prices for them (currently about 600 for the one i have), but if the price is right its a good box. even though the overal dimensions are listed as similar, i've compared mine next to the HF 5 drawer and there is a large difference in overall size in favor of these. the only way to get the dimensions advertised, when i compared them, was to put the HF handle and can holders on opposite sides and count that in the overall width. also, if that cornewll is new enough, it should have some deeper prybar/screwdriver holders than the HF, which i can fit all but my 36" and 58" pry bars in with the lid closed.

don't get me wrong, not bashing the HF i think its a great deal at about 150$ depending on the current coupon/sale, just the things i've noticed about them.

Still need to get my other set of Kobalt trays from my buddy for the impacts so I can cram my 1/2" Metric set and my 1/4" impact stuff. Electric impact is out on warranty, and Snap-On & Williams Combo wrenches are home since we had a thief in the shop not long ago.

5 seconds of google later.....

it is the new model number for the same cart

Thanks cool guy.

Is there anyone else who isn't a smart *** that may have an answer? were there changes made to the cart when the code was changed?

krsc31 was bolted together and the krsc33 is welded together. Also I think the sides of the prybar/screwdriver holders on each side in the top compartment of the newer midel are cut down a little so you can grab the handles a little better. Other than that, they're pretty much the same I believe.

Thats perfect. Thank you kind sir. As i'm looking at both carts in new condition. I can get the 31 for a few hundred cheaper than the 33 and wanted to see if it was worth it. I think the 33 is the way to go as it is welded together.

Thanks again Canuckian!

Here's mine. Had it for close to ten years. My dad gave it to me when I got my first service job. I believe it's a blue point but idk for sure.

I purchased the Harbor Freight 24" x 36" Two Shelf Steel Service Cart (Item No. 5770 ) some months ago with the intent of modifying it. I already had their 16"x30" three tray cart, and scavenged the swivel casters off it to enable the larger cart to swivel a full 360 degrees. However, it was too short for my liking (Same height as the smaller cart, approx 34" tall), and I wanted to make it waist height for better ergonomics. A 4"x6"x12" beam and some threaded rod later, and I had myself a suitable service cart.

002.jpg

Taking inspiration from my mentor and his old Snap-On cart (Which he had kindly left in my possession when he moved on to greener pastures at another shop), I added an air manifold. This was the same one he installed on his cart, I just cleaned it, painted it, and upgraded the fittings to an 1/2" inlet and Prevost safety couplers. I also installed a 1/2" air hook up directly off the air plumbing in my service bays for when I need to go semi-mobile and have higher air flow than our standard 3/8" lines.

003.jpg

004.jpg

I also made a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter for those times when I have to take it out to the four post lift in the back of the shop, which only has one 3/8" coupler.

005.jpg

My hammer's handle has a 1-1/2" diameter at its widest point, but unfortunately u-bolts at Home Depot and Lowes go from 1-1/2" to 1-3/4", and I didn't want that much slop. I was able to locate a 1-5/8" u-bolt in the exhaust section at my local AutoZone, as well as other non-standard u-bolt sizes.

006.jpg

This u-bolt is 2-5/8" for my 3/8" impact wrench. Sadly, it's not working as well as I hoped it would as a wrench holster, and I am trying to locate a decent drill holster or similar to attach to the cart for holding the wrench better. I tried making one out of a quart paint can, but that proved to be too big.

008.jpg

Some short air lines I picked up at Harbor Freight at the same time I purchased my 1/2" air hose. These measure about eight feet, and are the perfect length for mobile work. I'm still in the process of figuring out a good way of keeping them with the cart, probably some of those screw-on hooks mounted to the back of the cart.

009.jpg

This was a fun project. It took me longer than I expected because I don't have a drill press, and the initial holes I drilled for the caster mounting studs went off-center and had to be slightly hogged out to fit. But after it was fully assembled, it has made my life so much easier at work. A large work surface anywhere I want, with air hook-ups, is incredible for doing brake jobs and under-car work. All together I think I spent about $120 on materials, and if I had to buy the pipe to build the manifold, I think it would have been about $150. Still far cheaper than a comparable truck brand cart, and much more customizable.
