Every time I go into cleanup mode and I need to dampen a rag with some kind of solvent, I pull out the gallon can and splash way more solvent than I need on the rag. I found these squirt bottles at US Plastics that are unaffected by most solvents. I filled and labeled six bottles with...

  • Acetone
  • Denatured Alcohol
  • Lacquer Thinner
  • Paint Thinner
  • Urethane Reducer
  • Waterborne Wax & Grease Remover

    ...and ordered:
  • Solvent Based Wax & Grease Remover

I kept them handy on the workbench but after knocking them over a few times, I made a holder to mount on the $49 HF 1-drawer cart I use to store the majority of my paint & bodywork tools and supplies. It was really just an excuse to practice TIG welding (no filler rods, just fusion).

With two pieces of 2.25" exhaust tubing from my local auto supply store and two pieces of bar stock from Home Depot, I made a 7-bottle holder to bolt to the cart. A can of bright red Krylon Dual (primer/finish) got it close to the cart color.

Slick setup, I have a few of those bottles myself and they are handy. FYI, lacquer thinner will take its toll on the plastic after a few months. Acetone might be the same but I have no first hand experience with it.

LG63,

Thank you. I was just going to buy a shelf but nothing seems to fit this small cart very well.

I've been watching for signs of failure but so far, so good. I avoided buying the bottles at -mart or grocery stores for that very reason. These bottles from US Plastics are HDPE (high density polyethylene), which is supposed to be resistant to most solvents. Not sure if the price is high or low but $0.74 each was in my comfort zone. These are the ones I bought (8-oz size):

I have a black KRL 7022 Snap on box at my workplace (Heavy Duty Diesel Tech) and i bought the black HF cart a while back. It works quite well for the money i spent on it, but i have always been keen on the Matco 4 drawer carts.

Well, after having the Matco guy paid off for a while, I decided today was the deal i couldnt pass up. He offered me trade in $$ on my HF cart, and i got this cart he had in storage, that he got from a show, I am only into it for $520. Not bad for a new $800 tool cart
(sorry for the crappy cell phone pic)

Excuse me for not being in the field yet and ignorance, but if you have a tool box and all what is the purpose of a tool cart? What should one look for when purchasing one? Do you need it if you are in the entry level and barely have the tools like doubles as you guys do? Sweet thread.

Some entry-level guys have just a service cart instead of a box. These are guys with jobs that have limited responsibilities, like lube techs.

The rest of us put our most often used tools and what we need for the current work order in them so we can wheel them right up next to/under what we're working on instead of running back and forth to the real box just for a simple socket or combo wrench.

I don't wrench for a living. I'm torn between putting my most-used tools in the tool cart and putting them all with the other tools in their proper places in the big boxes. Perhaps I should allocate the tool cart for a specific area such as automotive electrical.

use your box to store tool, then buy a simple tool cart without drawer. When you do for exemple a brake job, you put the needed tool on it and roll next to where you work.

I just wheel it over and load up what I need for a given task and wheel it over to where I am working. I got it for $49.99 with a coupon. I was worried it would be flimsy, but it is actually pretty solid.

The coupon expires in 12/16. I have attached the coupon.

I already have the HF 5-drawer cart.

o i c
That was actually why I did not go for the 5 drawer cart (my home garage). I figured if I kept commonly used tools there, I would be constantly checking my cart for something to discover it's in my main box or vise versa... In other words 2 possible locations for items. I like to have ONE place for something. If I am lazy and leave something on my cart I can see it at a glance.

too small :lol_hitti

I suppose if I only worked on one or 2 bays I wouldn't need my 5 drawer HF with 7 drawer side cab mod, but I work all over a 6 bay shop, so having as many tools in a portable, organized package is just how it needs to be.

someone once set. a tool box is a house for your tools. a tool cart is a car for your tools

. i have the hf 4 drawer is pretty darn packed right now. it keeps all my sockets some wrenches, impacts, pliers. stuff that i use all the time, just grab one extra tool or 2 throw it on the cart wheel it right next to the car im working on you'd be amazed how much time you save just takin 2 steps to your cart vs 40 to your box.

I've been wanting to switch to one of the two shelf carts (or adding one) after using a coworker's on a job, and keeping it simple to set down tools and parts to keep things organized. I store all my daily use tools in the 4 drawer, but knowing what job you're doing and being able to grab a minimal amount of tools (wrench set, 3/8" impact sockets, air ratchet and 3/8" impact) to put on one of these carts feels awesome.

Anyone have a more recent $49.99 coupon for one?:D

I can't say I have ever seen a set of wrenches like that. Looks like it says Blue Point. Double box end, flex, reversible, short ratchet wrenches.

I was kind of curious about those as well...
Any chance of a PN for that set (or the wrenches themselves)?

Thanks! Those look far more useful than the standard ratcheting wrenches with the never used open end on one side.

I tried looking for them on the SO site, but as usual it's not the easiest site to find anything on without a part number.:dunno:

Snap-on site is up, but I can't find those wrenches. Through an image search on Google, I was able to find some sets that had sold on eBay UK. Found some individual wrench part numbers, but not the set number. Searching those individual part numbers doesn't show much and they don't come up when searched on the Snap-on site. BOERMS brings up stubby fixed and flex combination Blue Point ratcheting wrenches, not double box end.

Maybe only sold in the UK/Europe? Maybe no longer available?

Link to eBay ad with those wrenches that already sold. For part number reference.

Looking like both of those are the case. Part numbers only turn up old ebay listings. Description searches turned up some similar sets, but all were also UK...

Found some sets that are available/will ship to US, but they start getting pricey...

What a shame that set looks great. Less Space in the tool box and a reliable brand.

I just added a international small side locker today.
Haven't put the finishing touches on it yet.

Sent from my C771 using Tapatalk 2

how do you add a small side locker like that? do they all fit easily onto the service cart?
