I stated in another thread that I grew up on Craftsman tools (my dad had them and passed them down to me) now I have a huge collection of them. I just had to get the "US General" emblem off and put a Craftsman one on. Here's a pic of the top drawer with all the Craftsman tools in it. It does have only one ball bearing slide but the slide twice the size of the slides on the other drawers and rated to 264 lbs.

Good looking collection of C-man stuff there!

I like how you did your socket rails with the pieces of alum barstock. I've been tempted to do as such but just can't break myself of the habit of grabbing an entire rail of sockets out of the drawer while I'm working on something.

heres my box and some of my clutterd garage.

Heres my Sockets and ratchets. Mostly Duralast stuff.
PA160211.jpg

Duralast *****.. I had one of the Dulalast that loooked like Snap On F936...
Maybe after using a few times the cover fell off... gear come off, so I had pull my old trusty SK.....
Getting that thing warrentied was a *****, had my reciept, only took the bad one(part of set). They tell me, come with whole set.. and they would replace, I told the ***** at the Autozone... If the only that one was bad, why replace all of them. so the then the manger stepped in and pulled one of shelf, that why I hate the brand!!,
Try Craftsman pro/ or KD ones from Oreilly's(flex) ... or the ratchet from Advance Auto parts get the Gearwrench 60th tooth ratchets, they are nice, look like matco...

I would recommend the ratchets with a red dot;
The Craftsman, it is online/ only,
The KD can be found at Oreilly's Autoparts.... for around 31 bucks
RATCHETS.jpg

Ya, i know the duralast are not that great. But...i kinda work at autozone...yes..i know...but its a job. When someone comes in with a tool warranty, i dont hassle them...just pull one off the shelf and tell them to have a nice day after the computer work stuff. I agree there are a BUNCH of morons at autozone though. Just like any other parts house. Of course i bought that ratchet/socket set and the other ratchets becouse i get a discount. When i bought the sockets we had a 30% discount for like a week in the summer. I bought them mainly to keep in my truck, but they ended up in my box. Once i get money, they will go back in their case, and be put in my truck to replace the walmart tool set in there, and i will get some nicer tools. But for the time being they work for me. At my other job, i use a co-workers Snap-on tools, or my boss's old school tools. As workin at the shop part time, i dont need to keep my own box there. But someday id like to have a huge box full of nice tools. Im only 22.

I too like those socket holders. Real clean. I actually spent $70 at Sears on Hanson socket holders already or I'd do mine that way.

i made a similar socket tray using socket strips and aluminum plate, riveted together, it saves way way more space then the fancy Hansen trays and costs 1/3 of them.

RLRRLRLL,
Keep the faith. I started with a handful of Craftsman tools in high school. Worked on cars, motorcycles, bicycles, anything with nuts and bolts. Kept my tools in a cardboard box. After 30 yrs. my collection has grown as will yours.
I am new to posting on this site and a bit of a computer *****. I will post some pictures of my stuff as soon as I can figure out how to get them over here.
You will know you have to many tools when your WIFE ******* about not having enought room in HER Snap on box. Keep collecting.

Ya, in high school i had to use what my dad had in that box....which was just that old wrench set, and those 1/2" drive sockets. The rest ive put together over the summer. Ive used them quite a few times and havent had any issues. But then again, as long as you dont abuse stuff they generally last along time. But sometime..u just have to abuse them to get the job done haha. The first thing on the list is a bigger box, then id like to buy a craftsman socket set, and then...ya..u know how it goes. I have no need to worry about a Wife...i havent even had a gf in years haha.

I think there should be a rule that no one can say anyone else's tools "****." That's harsh.

Tooltrader, the pic of the tools in that drawer are making me even more jealous...everything looks shiny and hyper-organized. Very nice.

Ya, its not nice. I know some very respected mechanics that have Duralast tools in there Snap-on boxes. Also some very good mechanics that have tools that lots of you would say ****. But they work just fine for them. A guy i work with has alot of snap on stuff, hes had his ratchets rebuilt, stuff replaced on warrenty and such. My boss has a ratchet that says John Deere, and evercraft sockets, and some other random ones. The john deere stuff hes had for a very long time, ive only broke one of his sockets, and i dont think ive seen him break much. Hes been a head mechanic at a few shops before opening up his own, using the same tools. He dont have a fancy box, he works out of a tool tray with basic tools, and does any job that comes his way. While the other guy has a 40" snap on combo full of tools, that always needs somthing else to do somthing.

Hey everyone does the best with what they have... When I started out as a lube tech at a VW dealer I was bringing tools from home everyday (mostly C-man) a used Snappy impact and a tire gauge. Someone made fun of me once and the service manager told me he called the guy into his office and made him feel bad because I was dragging it back and forth everyday and not complaining and that I was saving all my money to buy a starter box. The guy came out and said he was sorry. Now I have about 15-16K just in tool boxes and then another 30K in tools. That took me 12 years of collecting them all and I'm still not done. It will come in time if you're serious about it. Duralast will get the job done until you can get better tools.

But, if Duralast keeps doing the job, what does a "better" tool even mean? :headscrat

Come on. What is the past tense of the word "see?" :wtf:

HAHAHAHAHAHA:lol_hitti

Go from New England to Hawaii if you really want to see the meaning of poor grammar.

Sigh, someday I'll get a sweet toolbox like the ones in this thread....That will require quite a bit more income however....

Well I don't make a lot of income but I am make a wise way as search what I want for toolboxes... I did found it and made deal on used KRL1203 2 years ago for 450 dollars while tech tried to sell for 1,000 dollars and tried for 2 months.. also I had my snap on guy to find me a used KRL1003 to match my top chest. He did and I paid 1,500 for it instead 10 grands! Problem is my krl1003 was about 17 years old. I don't care about age but I do care of quality!

Right now I am has a lot of tools than other ford techs... even they do ask if I has it..

and a sense of "pride of ownership"

Come on Krusty. You are reasonable enough to know that even if someone owns a set of non tool-truck tools, they can have pride of ownership. If someone has a collection of Duralast (which look nice, btw) and they never fail them, then there would be no reason not to be proud.

no argument about that............

HOWEVER, most of us are car guy's here and evn though you can be proud of your v8 vega you might just puff up a little more if you had a 56 vette in the garage!

edit: i'm just offering ONE reason that some prefer truck brands.there are a few more and DEBT is a minor issue.you should know i don't care what you or anyone else uses. i have said before if i wasn't a pro mechanic i would have a box full of craftsman or SK but as a mechanic i have 90% snap on because that's my choice.

Wow, even when I say something nice I get **** on. Okay I'm not talking about anyone else's brand of tools anymore. You guys are too sensitive. I too am a PROFESSIONAL TECH so I have Snap-on. Sorry if you think I'm stuck up!

Totally agree with this statement . Am a pro mechanic here in the uk and I choose to go down the route of snap-on , now theirs nine mechanics in our workshop two of which buy snap on mainly and tbh the ones who dont have snap have a much nicer car than me because they have went down the sealey / halford pro range . Its just what you want to choose really in the end

WOW. you are going to complain about being "**** on" and then say other people are too sensitive
This is just the internet, don't take to heart what some jackass types. :lol_hitti

Tools are tools. Some are better than others. Some people take price into consideration. If the price is right by me and it's made in USA then I'm buying regardless of brand.

(edit)
Krusty beat me to it.

Ok I'm a little late on this thread, but here it goes:

1983 Snap-on boxes jam packed full of Snap-on and various other tools. When my grandfather retired he gave them to us.

DSC_0014-1.jpg

My great-grandfathers tool boxes. He was a master mechanic for the ACL Rail Road. He worked there 42 years, starting when he was 12. We still use the tools today, and that's the way he would want it.

Then here's the box I keep in the trunk of the Chevelle:

Here's an old steam whistle that he took off of a train and made a show piece. There's no telling how old this thing is.

Sigh, my grandfather drove a Submarine in WWII and spent the rest of his life as a mechanic/ bodyman. My grandmother sold/gave all of his tools, of course all snap on from that era, and all his WWII gear away. My father was a bean counter, so I had to star from scratch. I'm so jealous of you guys who have history from your family to hold on to. :(
