Yes. All the tools the same brand as the box is impressive.

And also stupid, not to mention impossible in most cases...

I have a US General tool box and following your logic I should remove all my Snap On, CAT, MAC, Milwaukee, etc. tools and fill it with tools from HF instead.

I've been doing it wrong all these years mixing inferior brands in my US General, Husky and Craftsman tool boxes.

These days I have the 26" USG box I've had for a while now
PrFtM8.jpg
That one mainly holds the household tools, and some stuff that is "shared" with the automotive work

and the Full Bank I've had for almost two years that I've really liked a lot:
hUKpIZ.jpg
I don't have a good pic of it. I've really liked it a ton. I have to say looking at the 56" Series 3 with power drawer, impact storage and the hutch had me salivating a bit. I don't want a traditional box with a worktop (my workbench is to the left of this box, and I don't really want to encourage horizontal surfaces for me to pile stuff on), but a hutch...
I’ve been back and forth on that full bank since it went to $600. Good thing you didn’t post drawer picture and push me over the edge!

No I didn't say you should. I just said it's impressive when the box and tools are all one brand.

Drawer pix I do have... (I keep them fairly current to keep track of where I've put stuff and how I arranged it - old and sorta-OCD habit)

Just recently re-organized my whole garage and decided to step up my toolbox organization in the process. Pretty happy with how it all turned out. Realized how much space is wasted with blow-molded cases so tossed all of them but the downside was buying more organizers and of course more tools to fill in the inevitable blank spots :)

I work with one, everything Snappy. He's insufferable.

How's that work? I know brands have expanded, but there's a lot of stuff snap on doesn't make.

Like there's no snap on branded inner tie rod tool, or impacting air ratchet, or double flex head ratcheting wrenches.

Does he just go without?

I have never seen so many unused tools in any thread, ever. No grease, marring, scuffs nor any sign that they have been near a vehicle or anything for that matter…not pointed at any post in particular. I just follow this thread and have noticed the condition of tools…maybe I should be jealous.😎

But, whatever works for folks is what matters and it is not my tools nor opinion that matters, just my observation.

Maybe I'll snap you some pictures of my cart tomorrow.

May I ask what brand those organizers are?

We repair transit busses so anything specialty is on the wall, we're only required to supply hand tools to 1-1/4"/22mm. I couldn't believe the amount of tools I brought home the first year.

i been looking at those triangle road boxes that you see on maintance trucks, that all I really need. get rid of the big boxes and just have the tools that I actually used. my boxes are mainly storage drawers for nuts bolts, wire etc. if i do sheet metal once a year, why do they need to be in the big box, they can be in a hand tote on the shelf. seperate by craft, instead of everything in the in box.

Finally had a chance to do some dusting and cleaning, can't wait for my worktop, hutch and overhead for my KMP-1022. I also am looking forward to Christmas as I can put up my lights and decorations. Maybe a tree on top, well we'll see i guess.... They say it's not a competition but I am a nut for LED lights so hold my beer.

I really enjoy the footprint on these, wanted the two drawer epiq cart before they discontinued em. Should look up the specs compared to the 4017/4114 combo I'm thinking about...

I’ve posted previously, but thought it worth an update. I've been expanding my boxes as part of my workshop move plans - tools that have lived on shelves or in cupboards will be gradually moved into wheeled boxes and moved en masse. I’m still collecting things together so no tours yet - hopefully the move plans will happen before the end of the year.

Anyway, this is about toolboxes…

These are my older Halfords boxes (plus a random cupboard I found in the scrap)
IMG_2075.jpeg

and my slightly newer Halfords ones
IMG_2074.jpeg

I am gradually phasing these out in favour of older, but far nicer Snap On boxes - a Canadian made 40” KRA stack plus locker and side extension.

IMG_2507.jpeg

Although I also seem to have developed a liking for 90’s KR and KRL boxes… this is a KR600 Rollcab with a KRL737 top chest and a KR290 side extension on

IMG_2506.jpeg

And this is a KR655C Rollcab with an KRL651 top chest

IMG_2793.jpeg

and finally, and yet to be cleaned up, but fitting in with the theme is a cart that I found, which will be pressed into service in the new place… a KR5400

IMG_2834.jpeg

I’m on the look out for a KRL737 topchest in Kenosha Red, to replace my silver one… who knows what else might crop up…

Nice setup! I use those mean green HF punches and chisels at work, in the most heavy duty environment and they are EXCELLENT.

They resist salt water and the daily abuse of many knuckle-draggers without missing a beat.

I even got the same set at home to give my vintage CM set a rest 🤙🏼

Home-gamer here. Added a center box to my HF boxes and seems to be a good place for the Porta-band and the belt sander.
socket drivers.jpg
All my ratchets and extensions - all cats and dogs - laser cut into HF foam
Hammers.jpg
Hammers - more cats and dogs but at least I know when my wife's taken one to hang pictures or who knows what else.
elelctrical drawer.jpg

Organized all my soldering and crimping tools in one drawer. Used the red plastic Schaller boxes for small parts

die grinders.jpg

More Schaller boxes and HF foam to store my die grinders, discs and burrs

screwdrivers.jpg
My Craftsman and Milwaukee screwdriver collection - couple I scaled incorrectly (too small) and will have to enlarge them by hand

Pliers drawer.jpg
My pliers collection. Not entirely happy with this drawer yet. The Husky stuff is a POS and the long needle nose I found in a junkyard. Hope to upgrade some of these this winter.Main wrenches.jpg
The wrenches I use most often - metric on the left and SAE on the right. About 70% of the time it is the double box gearwrench Others are polished Craftsman or pre-Icon HF
backup wrenches.jpg
If I can't find the right wrench in the top drawer it is probably in the second drawer down. I don't know why I put metric on the right and SAE on the left in this drawer.

sockets.jpg
Craftsman, Proto and old Husky with a SO or two for good measure

Winter is coming and there will be plenty of time to design and cut some more organizers and optimize old ones - more to come

Please don't take this as a negative comment... but the sheer amount of wasted (empty and unused) space in those boxes because of the foam is astounding.

I love organization. Everything in my box (also a 44" HF) has its place and most of it has a dedicated organizer, for example wrench racks or socket trays...

But for me, the foam is just a bit much. I can easily notice if most any tool is missing or out of place without it (the foam), and I don't need 10' of tool box to accomplish it or meet my needed space requirements.

how long it take you to cut all that?
To cut the foam on a laser takes only a minute or two. Scanning the tools and creating a .pdf takes considerably longer, but I imagine I'm far enough down the learning curve I could do a drawer in a couple of hours. Like a lot of things I do, I don't really have to consider the time I have in it, only the satisfaction I derive from doing it - like I said, I'm just a home gamer and retired with time on my hands in the winter. I get a great deal of satisfaction each time I open a drawer to use a tool.

Objectively, it'd be hard to argue that the amount of wasted space isn't 'astounding',

As I said, I'm a home-gamer and don't make a living with my tools - they are just there for my entertainment and the joy I get each time I open a drawer and the fun I've had optimizing tools and storage over the years.

How do you handle buying new tools or getting rid of tools?

I have some "core tools" that I've had for years, but I'm always buying more tools and selling others. Trying to keep up with changing the foam to accommodate that would be a nightmare.
