Here's a pic of my older Craftsman boxes. Think they are from the 70's. Almost have them all refinished now. Will get more pics.
Anyone know where to get the locks for these older boxes? Or, maybe they can be rekeyed? Thanks,Brad

In the attached photo. you will find the location to date that box. Lower right corner, pressed into it. Works on any Craftsman box. By the way, you can also get three locks keyed alike from Sears still. However you still might be able to find them cheaper at ace or such like previously posted.

What else can you tell me about those? What asian country did they come from, and how do they work out. Craftsman doesnt make NON locking reversible flex heads, so Im left with trying to pick some out from all these asian made brands. I figured Sunex may have some. How are those wrenches? I have thier LONG pliers and I am impressed with the quality for the relativly low cost superior to the astro pneumatic pliers

Well to be honest, I wouldn’t buy them again. It was one of those "damn these are cheap" buys and a little bit on the fact that one of the guys at the shop praises their impact swivel sockets. They are stamped "Dropped Forged China" right on them; in fact it’s almost embarrassing to have that side of the wrench up! Besides all that, they have held up pretty good for being pounded on with impacts and what not. Only trouble so far is with my 3/8 when I was using it on a flare-nut on a brake line inside of a trailer tongue and surprisingly left a “dent”.

As of now I am just waiting for the “right” deal on some crapsman pros, but until then these will work.

My SAE gearwrenches are Husky Pro’s, kind of wish I got a full set instead of that 7 piece deal as I use mostly standard stuff on boats. The metric ones are Gearwrench brand and have the “cap-stop” as discussed in a thread about MAC gearwrenches.

I believe those are locking flex heads too. Im really starting to get kind of annoyed with these freakin gear wrenches. I know gearwrench has non loclking flex heads, but they arnt reversible. Not number one on my list of things to buy, but Im keeping my eye out for a decent deal.

I hate the cap-stop feature on some of the gearwrenches. It'd be nice not having to keep the box from slipping down off the nut, yes. But they keep you from accessing certain fasteners. I can't recall a specific instance off the top of my head, but several times I've crossed paths with a fastener that could NOT be turned because of the cap-stop thingy.

S•K calls them G-Pro. They are XXL ratcheting box ends, and appear to be zero offset.

A bit pricey, but...?

This last one is actually a cover I made for my nice box, keeps dust off of it, made it myself out of heavy duck cloth. Has a velcro wrap-around side and pulls right off. Also, I'm planning on painting the red boxes satin black to try and match them to the ball-bearing box, you can see some of the small samlpes on the top of it.

Another neat thing... I don't know about you guys but I love the look of stickers on a box, BUT I really wanted to be able to remove them, so I collected all those stickers, them bought thing magmetic sheets at the craft store and placed and cut out the stickers. Took a LONG LONG time, and set me back some money (too much now that I think about it) but it's really neat because I can move the stickers wherever I want!

Also, I picked up that filing cabinet for $10 at a used office funiture store, great for holding personal protective equip, and other large items, like the welding hats and whatnot. I'ts gonna be satin black too, and I'm welding up a rack that will mount on top of it to hold welding clamps, C-clamps, and other misc. storage. I put some casters on it too. Worked out pretty nice for so cheap!

Not to keep off topic (...kinda like a bump... hehe) but what about something like this kart? Pretty good deal, not sure what metric wrenches you’re looking for though. I never saw this set before, seem cheap... They're not reversible, but they all are built the same so you just have to pay attention to which direction the open-end is offset to.

TNT, Yeah, I know, but There have been times where I have backed myself "into a corner" so to speak with my non reversible gear wrenches.

If the bluepoint's are on sale, Im definetly going to ask about those. My Snap on guy ditched the snap on truck for a u-haul!! haha Long story, but he's a day late with all his stop's.

Strizzy, Im going to look at those. Everybody seems to be very happy with thier gearwrench stuff. I really only NEED metric, but I may also need the SAE's depending on which car I decide to go with. If its a 74-76 nova SAE only, 89-92 stang maybe both. 00-04 s10, metric. Hmmm

That seems really cheap for that set though, are those actual gearwrench brand gearwrenches? The logo doesnt look right

i was bought my mac tool bottom box940in wide) when i am 18years old and got 150 dollars craftsman toolbox chest (40in wide that sears tried sell for 399.99 then drop to 299.99 and guy who i know him made deal me as tag said chage from 299.99 to 199.99 and he throw 50 dollar discounted so i paid it for 150 dollars. i got lot of tools and three toolboxes at time when i was 18 years old. then mac tool bottom's top wide drawer get overload and bent bearing slides already. mac tool guy had me talking about get bigger toolbox but i said no due no money to pay full as dont want trap in credit system with too damn high interest rate. then snap on guy had krl1001b for much cheap so i traded in my both bottom boxes for snap on krl1001b and paid off same day when i paid him.

Here's my set.. I used to just use whatever I could find to store tools, (carry boxes) and the old vintage Red box on top.
Last week I was living large I got the Harbor Freight 41" roller cab base. It was on sale at $399, then I was able to use a 15% off coupon bringing it to $340.

Compared to the Waterloos/ Craftsman/ Huky boxes I was looking at in my proce range, the HF unit BLOWS THEM AWAY.
Yeas, it feels VERY nice. One thing I noticed is that you have to close the drawers square. An off center attempt will bind.
The top unit was my Grandfather's. It's been my primary storage unit since I got it from him in 94. I have no idea how old it is, but he was a machinist with Boeing all his life. This has Boeing union stickers all over it. For it being roughly 50 years old, HEAVILY used, and not having ball bearing slides, it STILL feels better than even this Harbor Freight unit. I have no idea what brand it is, and why it operates so smoothly.
(oh, it's also heavy as all getout.)

So, what the hell could the old red box be? anyone recognize the handles? It has ZERO markings that I could ever find.

Hey guys new member here... i have just started my own collection having just been married. i used to use all of my dad's tools but now that we live on our own i don't have the privilege of having all of the tools at my disposal. I do however love have new shiny tools of my own... next i need to get a compressor. By the way, i only have a one car garage at this apartment until my wife and i PCS to a new base... i think i have done fairly well at cramming all of my "man toys" as my wife calls them into this small garage.
