My box at work.

that look cool... i am consider about that way for my work if my work have issues with my snap on KRL1203 and KRL1003... some of techs complaints about it even service director dont care but i am think about if i get my place then bring snap on boxes to home and have harbor freight or other big box at work,

why would your work have issues with your toolbox?

i has 30inches deep and 72in length... that largest ford dealership has error shop engineering design... it dont have enough space to open full length drawer while have truck sit on bay. and there is other tech work behind me and has more bays that use to be works.

There is NONE benches around of work until techs had asked shop to provided... it is ****!!!

I like the sheetmetal on top. Did you just buy from somewhere, cut it, and lay on top of the rubber?

i bought some 1/4 inch plywood from lowes painted it black for a base and them used some 18g galvanized and then polished it to make that top. im in the process os the same thing for the other 42 i just go as well.

I like it but am not crazy about the drawer configuration. It has two 12" drawers on the right side that are about 6" dp (too late and cold to go out and measure now), one would have been enough. The drawers glide nice even with all the weight I have in some of them.
I noticed a little surface rust starting last summer so I went over it with some paste wax and it's been fine since. Magnets stick so it isn't a better grade of stainless.
For the price I would buy another. Last year when I got it, it was about $1200 with tax and I see they are on sale now for about $900+ tax.

Mac box, I couldn't find a sticker or stamping on the outside but from looking online seems to be a mb1700. The side box is a snap on KR28B. I bought both boxes with Snap-On, Mac, Blue Point and other good tools in it for $450.00.

No what he is saying is that when they laid out the workbays at te Ford dealership he works at they made them small, thus when he has a vehicle in his work bay he cannot open the drawers on his SnapOn since they open full depth. That is why he is comtemplating taking the SnapOn home and getting shallower HF cabinets.

nothing special but I'm proud of it, my first real toolbox.

11/09 my storage unit was broken into, had everything important in handboxes and they all disappeared. Police caught the guy and gave him 3 years, only thing recovered were some stubby wrenches, my Milwaukee drill, and some cheap air tools. Everything else including my dad's SO and my few things I had from my grandfather were sold at flea markets.

I've since started replacing everything and this forum has been invaluable to me in this process. Thanks everybody.

Very nice.

Here's mine. I have used them at home only, just for working on my own car now. I used to do side work until it became more of a hassle then it was worth. I hate using dirty tools on clean cars, so everything is kept pretty clean.

no... my work dont have toolbox built like other dealerships do... my service director dont care if i bring my giant boxes to home so i can use different boxes.. My service director must know that i am still working for them...

thank you... i was considering about get Harbor freight 56" bottom box and keep what is most of common tools and bring rest to home...

i tried to get a job at chrysler dealership, they has toolbox built in(it is cheaper brand)... but did not get job there. so i am at my work, i am doing good but more crowds and more diffcult for me to do with my giant box...

car was a 1993 nissan 240sx
front end was cut up for tubbed wheel wells in front to account for more steering angle and wider wheels and new rad support

here is my home box. oddly no pics of my work box. home is just an older cornwell 5x? inches wide. dont remember off hand just know it is over 50 inches. the long top drawer is what sold me on it. side box is an older snap on. not pretty but it holds tools. then underneath the box is where i hide specialty tools.

I *think* all BMW dealerships are required to supply their techs with toolboxes.. I work for a BMW dealer and they supply them with toolboxes called "Shure." It doesn't have the same "feel" as my snap on box and those guys don't have any heavy tools in there boxes since all that stuff is supplied by the dealer as well. Seems to be a decent box. I don't know what the pricing is....

i'm a field service mech at a const eq dealer

ive been in some high end car dealerships in the city, a couple of them had built in tool storage for the techs in each bay.

all nicely color co-ordinated, polished floors, brightly lit, ect.

all contrasted by my filthy service truck slowly thawing out, dripping water, and chunks of snow all over the nice clean floor.
i'm covered in oil, fuel, road salt and grease, as are my tools, and the loader i'm working on.

wonder why they ddint want to hang out ?

This is my tool box that I've had for over thirty years. I bought these new in the late 1970's.

Oh, and that is a Snap-On jacket hanging next to it, from about the same time period.

I am always on the lookout for more boxes like mine, as I have been out of space for a couple of decades now.

My recently purchased 70th anniversary snap-on box. Had to upgrade in size and another mechanic in the shop was willing to sell it as he will be retiring soon. He had it new from November 1990. Top, Bottom and Side Cab were $8700 at that time. Even gave me the original receipt. It is ball bearings but no lock n roll latch, just a detent. Wasn't selling my old side cab so I put it on top of the exsisting side cab, what a difference in size! Box was a bit dusty in the pics.

Well, this is my first ever tool box, so please don't make fun TOO much I am a weekend wrencher, and have just started my tool collection in the past year. I pretty much buy what I need for the job once it comes around. I buy alot of metric because that is mainly what I need for my car and my wife's. I have been lurking and talking with quite a few guys on here as I was going back and forth between the Griplatch from Sears and the 13 Drawer from HF. I picked it up this past Saturday, and I am very happy with it so far.

Here are a few pics of my humble collection. Next on my list is a SO 3/8 F80...anyone got one for sale

Blue tape is basically my markings. I have a 97 E36 M3 and I am on another forum with a bunch of local guys who work on their BMW's too (saves alooooooot of money ) So we usually get together alot and help each other work on cars....well at the end of the project, I want to make for damn sure that all the tools I came with are coming home with me, so I mark them with blue tape (very easy to spot) That way, when we are putting away tools, all the guys know that blue tape tools are MINE. I also knew that I would be buying a starter set of tools from Craftsman, and maybe selling them in the future if I get nicer ones....so this way I don't have to etch, engrave, mark my tools which (in some people's eyes) brings down the re-sale value.

Anyone have any better ideas than my current system? I'm always open to ideas. It seems to have worked well so far, in fact I left a ratchet at my buddy's place, and he texted me to let me know I left it there, and he only knew that because of the blue tape. Seems to work......so far.

Edit: All the sockets used to be in a 118 pc Cman tool set, so I would always just make sure all sockets were back in their home before I left, that's why there is no tape on them.

It is a very nice start to a sick disease. Welcome to the club. You have a nice support group here, although many sick people here will do everything in their power to make you sicker and sicker. Enjoy that part of it. The fact you have a wife should allow you to live with this disease quite well. For some, without that controlling factor in their life, this disease gets way out of control and it ends up consuming them. My wife provides a nice buffer between me, myself and irresponsibility.

Yeah, I know, if you couldn't tell from the pictures, there aren't 13 pictures of drawers because some of them are still empty. I need to work on growing my collection, and then I will probably move to a holder like you suggested. Just trying to make my humble collection look bigger

Check out Plasti-Dip or do a search for 'liquid electrical tape' or 'brush-on electrical tape'

It's all the same stuff. Colored goop that dries to a rubbery finish.
