Well you do have a nice collection of tools there! I think that your not any where out of room yet. Your only drawer that is _full_ is the large socket drawer. The first thing you need to do is loose the crummy plastic trays that the tools come in. They waste TONS of room, when I got rid of mine I gained a lot of wasted space back. If you do you will have a lot more room. Your screwdrivers will all fit in one drawer that way. Rack up the rest of your wrenches etc... I would say your Box is about 75-80% full at most.

You just identified the primary reason so many guys are always prowling around looking for bigger and bigger boxes. I cannot begin to tell you how many hobbyist and paid wrench benders boxes I have seen where so much wasted space justifies a larger box!

I will grant you that I may have some overcrowding of drawers going on; However, I can always find what I need and fish it out of the drawer in a few seconds. Yes, most drawers do not look pretty when opened up, and I even have to fiddle with a few to get them to close when I am done, but one thing is for sure. I have maximized the use of every last square inch which is what it is all about to me. I hate wasted space!

We went into Sears this afternoon, and I thought I would just be browsing. This happened to be on sale for cheaper than it's painted counterparts ($400). So my girlfriend insisted that I should just get it. When we got to the counter, it rang up as $340 .

I've been wanting the Costco tool chest, but I've recently realized I have too many expensive hobbies that I want to take part in now. So dropping $800 on a single hobby wasn't really gonna do it for me. This one will work great for me and I can add a top and side chest later on....soon actually...I already ran out of room.

I have the S&K screwdrivers too, I think they are even better then .... Yes the Snap-On's. I love the hex under the handle for slipping a box wrench on.

I have them too...but While I do love them, the seam through the handle is not real flush, and almost annoying on almost all of them. What about on yours? If it the norm, well so be it, if not SK will be getting a call.

mine are all flush, but one the the shorter flat tip has bent, the tip didnt break, it just twisted itself to be unusable, so i need to get it warrentied.

Alright, I finally got some recent pictures of my toolbox to post in here. It's not the best, but I am pretty proud of what I have as I am only fifteen years old and I worked hard to purchase every single thing you see here myself. I use my tools literally every single day professionally on everything from bicycles to race cars. I buy quality tools, because you only have to buy them once. The idea is if I buy things one at a time over a few years when I am young, the sticker shock isn't so bad, and by the time I am a tech I will have everything I need, and won't be paying whatever the current prices are for the new imported chinese garbage...Made In USA stuff will be hard to come by.

Anyway, I had to steal some batteries out of a TV remote in the first place for this, and they didn't last very long, so I didn't get the whole toolbox (especially the bottom drawer of my top box - the best part!)...but it's a start, I will get some batteries and edit this post with more pictures later.

That is nice starting for you! when i was starting work for independent shop as i just bought 250 pieces of tools in tool set from sears for 190 dollars... i was starting at 250 pieces of tools when i am first year internship tech in five years ago. now it is been my five years in automotive industry and i got snap on KRL1200 and KRL1001 with tons of tools. i dont ask anyone to borrow a tools.... i just ask for other hands to help me....

When I started work as a mechanic at Firestone back in the 1980's I started with a basic set of Craftsman tools. Over the years I traded a lot in with the Snap On guy for Snap On stuff and bought a lot of stuff. Like you said you only have to buy quality stuff once. Now I have a mix of Snap On, Mac, Matco, Craftsman, SK, and several others. I just swapped out a pile of 25 year old Snap On screwdrivers for a brand new Snap On set no problems.

that interesting to me that you use tool trays in toolboxes instead use magnet rails or rails (not hansen rails) that where you can have more storages....

You have a nice set of tools for such a young guy. I had only my dads hand me downs at that age and the few I could afford from the local surplus store and they were in a small bent up metal toolbox. I could only dream of having a set of tools like that.
One comment to make is that you may want to find out where Mastercraft automotive hand tools and most of their larger tool boxes are manufactured before putting down "imported Chinese Garabge" as you put it (hint: its not the USA). You might be surprised.
I also own some Mastercraft Maximum tools , but were called Mastercraft Professional when I bought them 15 years ago and have performed great. I have broke a few and they were replaced without any problems.

I realize Mastercraft is China/Taiwan. My top and intermediate boxes are Chinese, and the bottom box is Made In USA (Waterloo). I got that three tray set to get me started (Taiwan, it was $150 CDN on sale from $300) and was planning on phasing it out with Snap-On as I saved up money (you can see I have already done the same with my screwdrivers, pliers, etc.). That said, the Mastercraft Maximum stuff has never given me a single problem with anything. I have over 160 of their Mastercraft Maximum fully polished combination wrenches that I love, and they go on sale dirt cheap all the time. I am phasing out the ratchets for Snap-On (I already have a couple, even though the MM are very good for the money) and some of the sockets I use a lot...otherwise it's awesome.

Nothing wrong with tools from Canadian Tire, I have bought alot of stuff from them in the 80's before making the big move out here.

Guess what? I still have them and still use them


Got screw drivers, torx screw drivers, tap and die set, sockets, ratchets and the Gray brand of tools they sell there as well

Well I can finally bump this thread for a reason. Got a new toy and all and all for about $500 (sidebox and cabinet) I feel its a really good deal. Not very good pics, but some quickys as I was pretty busy. Box is a Husky Pro 41" and its built by Stanley in Canada (which probably explains why that Proto box that was posted looked so much like it ).

I really like it all considering, I wanted something that would hold up well and didn't empty the bank. Its built fairly well, the slides hang onto the drawers and box (no rivets) so that they can be mounted different heights and change the layout.

Biggest down side is the lack of double slides on the socket drawer and to lock the drawers in place you have to make sure they're firmly in, although when full of tools the bigger ones do it for them selves. Still very happy with it, way better then the new **** HD is trying to sell with those slides that ripe drawers out of your hand and probably throw all your tools in the back of the drawer.

Pretty surprised at how full the box is already, but now I have the room to get more tools! (although theres only a couple more things I "really" need, but its no fun stopping there...)

Craigslist came through last weekend and my 6 month wait to upgrade my toolbox is over. I was completely jammed up in a small SO 4107 rollcab. I had been thinking about getting a bigger single box but found this set for $1200 and now I have tons of room.

Figured I'd post. My humble contribution. I wish it was filled with fancy tools but I'm doing ok with what I have for now.

Here's my toolbox, I love finally having it but already I wish I'd gotten:
1. a ball bearing intermediate box.
2. a full depth intermediate and top box.
3. a 6 smaller drawer bottom chest as I will use more thin drawers than deep ones.

Can't complain though, the price was nice (scratch and dent on ebay, local pick up).

I also included my other "tool box". It's filled with woodworking tools and power tools. I hope to pick up two more steel filing cabinets like it this week from CL. I'll use them as part of the workbench storage.

I usually just push down on the socket on the rail next to the one I need and it keeps the rail held down. I wouldn't want to drill any holes in my box.

One of the first things I did after getting my $2500 Snappy box was to drill some holes so I could pop-rivet the clip rails in.

It only hurts for a second.
