Well, it took me 2 weeks but I finally made it through the 245 pages of toolboxes. There are some extremely nice tool collections on this forum. I'm just starting out, I'm only 21 and I do not work out of this box so please be gentle.

I purchased this box used on craigslist from a guy that works at a body shop. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it such as how old it is or who made it for cornwell or if it really even is a cornwell. I have yet to see another box exactly like it. He claimed it was only three years old but it seems like it is older than that.

Not really a box but I prefer to hang things on pegboard as I can. I just bought a set of Wiha screwdrivers to replace the craftsman. Sorry for it being messy.

The other drawers and the portable box are just random junk and new tools that are spares.

The GRAY PRO top/bottom combo sells for approx. $850 Canadian.

Some 20 years ago, I paid a similar amount for my CRAFTSMAN set, with the ball bearing slides.
(I crossed the MI. boarder and headed to Sears, to get it on sale & paid the extra $ coming back into ON, Canada)

I can honestly say, the GRAY PRO drawer sheet metal, seem thicker than my Sears brand.
(GRAY PRO very sturdy on fit and quality finish...I'm fussy and quite happy with this one)

I've seen the GRAY PRO tool boxes are also popular with journeyman trades people in Tool & Die, Maintenance Mechanics, Welders/Fabricators, etc...good value for the $$ and a nice solid set to grow into.

That Gray Pro looks alot like the early eighties Mac boxes with all the chrome handles. They have greaseable slides that are great as long as they don't get cold.

My wife bought this wooden cabinet for me - from "asset disposal" at her work, for $25.
(it was a nice surprise...she came home and said she had a bulky item, to remove out of the vehicle)
- formally made for a wood working shop, to house chisels, saws & blades, at a school

I just set it up on my bench, as its not too deep (and away from the front real-estate of my bench).
Allows me to store a bit of my special and frequently used items - instead of searching around, to put ones hands on.
- a few air tools (CP715 HD Air Hammer Zip Gun & a new Matco MT2112 3/8" drive impact with 1/2" attachment)
- a few auto body hammers (one Snap-on I bought new when I was 17) & Blue Point hack saw, bought 35 years ago
- two SP dolly blocks (purchased off MAC Tool truck), air hammer sheet metal flange tool, several air hammer chisels
- a few boxes of Arc Welding rods (601x and 7018) for my red Canox 230 amp AC/DC "sparkler"
- wire gun .030" nozzles for my Miller 150 amp / 220 volt Mig Welder
- spare Oxy/Acet. tips for my Victor gas welder (central welding tool place, just may stop me from another item buy)
- metal intake NOS breather tubes just found for early 350-V8's (flea market find @ $2 each)
- fishing tackle box found a new home, on top (no longer missing)
- sheet metal snips, scissors, masking tape, a few screw drivers (old Craftsman can't wear out the flat tip - had >20 years), preferred paint can opener, vernier, micrometer, etc...AND...a bottle opener...lol

Although my garage, is tight and very well insulated, I haven't run the Lennox natural gas forced-air furnace in years.
The wood cabinet, might just keep an added margin of dryness on the finer metal tools and show-case a few of my favorite ones.

TIP - I junked and scrapped an old & free golf bag, BUT cutoff all the "velcro" straps first.
(one velcro strip, hangs around my tin snips, to keep them from jarring open & damaging the edges)

I also need any/all organization tools/aids, to keep me in cleanup mode & this one here works great !!

Hello everyone.

First post on the forum, so I'd thought I'd start here.

I started out working in a shop and going to tech school full time, so money was a huge issue.

I started out with the Harbor Freight US General tool chest;

I ran out of room after the first year. Held up great, and still is (home chest now). so I started shopping around and ended up with this;

Rosseau Heavy Duty Stationary Cabinet
The main cabinet is a 60" x 58" x 27", 400# rated drawers, and the side cabinet is 24"x 30" x 28". Made my own roller frame. Total cost, delivered was $5500.

I am the super budget mechanic. I have everything I need to do my job fast, right, and it's all paid for.

I've been looking at new boxes for quite a while, & love the Extreme Green but my guy never had one. He told us last week, he was coming in a rented Penske truck with nothing but boxes in it. Today was the "Toolbox sale" day. - Below is the Mac i traded in. Does it look like it's worth $6400 ? Today it was.

I got turned onto the full length drawers by a co worker who had a 15 y/o Snap On box, and only had the bottom 2 as full length. He preferred them because you can get the longer tools (breaker bars, 3/4 torque wrench, etc.) in them no problem.

The shallow aspect was a must as well. I hate wasted space.

I spent literally 6 months shopping around for this online. The trade name tool boxes were way out of my budget and HF did not have the super roller chest yet. When I tripped over the Rosseau, I knew it was going to be the one. You can customize your drawer sizes (depth), and IIRC get a divider to get narrower drawers as well.

When I finally got around to placing my order, it was literally a custom job. "X" depth drawer on top, then the next depth, and so on. I measured the height of each tool section (wrench racks, sockets, impacts/ air tools...) and went from there. You can also order drawer divider kits (it is a parts cabinet after all) that are just as heavy duty. Right down to the choice of colors for the body, drawer handle end caps, and drawers.

Yeah, 400# capacity drawers. Fat man rated. How many tool boxes would you open one of the bottom drawers to stand in to see on top?

Anybody that is interested, shop around with different distributors. Order out of state (no sales tax in most states for phone and internet orders outside of home state). I had 3 different distributors bidding. Started out at $8k, and every day, someone would low-ball the others.

Not sure where they are. I know I took a pic of each drawer for insurance reasons, but don't know where they are. I'll look for them when I get home.

Right now the chest is in the corner of my work shop gathering dust, and storing my sensitive tools (TQ wrenches, micrometers, diagnostic tools...). My current tool box is a GMC 5500 service truck. Plenty of storage, no weight capacity. I am 1k# overweight, and really can't trim any more fat without being out in the middle of nowhere staring at a piece of equipment saying to myself..."I need a tool, and it's back at the shop".

in the pictures it may be frost as my garage is more or less unheated. i have a torpedo heater and it will form frost on my tools due to temp. rise quick.

IIRC all the ones listed [Cabinets, Heavy Duty, Stationary] are pre spec'd - most popular. I think I ended up finding a distributor to get some pricing, and they provided me with a complete catalog, then it will get in to the drawer heights. I know I spent a great deal of time planning it out, phone calls and faxes, more price quotes, so each drawer was planned for what it was going to hold, and where it was going to be at/what order from top to bottom.

I knew I was going to spend up to $8k on this, so I did not want to rush it. I am also a tightwad, and refuse to pay full retail for anything if I can avoid it, so I will spend the time shopping around and haggling.

Drawer heights are 3" - 10", 12", and 14". The drawer heights are the front. For a 3" drawer, the inside dimensions are - Real Depth: 24"/ Height: 1 5/8"/ Width: 56". It sounds like a lot of wasted space (and it is) but for the design and quality, I can live with it.

Example - on a 58" height cabinet, you have 54" of drawers, so you pick the drawer heights to add up to the 54. Mine from top to bottom is 4, 3, 3, 4, 4, 3, 5, 5, 3, 4, 4, 6, 6.

You can relocate the drawers if you don't like the arrangement, but it is a PITA, because you have to move all the drawers between (gotta make room, and use up room). Plan it right the first time.

Sure, ordering off the truck is easier, but if you want custom, you gotta do the work.

Rosseau sells casters, but will not put them on a cabinet over 36" (I think) due to tip over risk, and I think they are super duty rated for the potential weight. Mine, 13 drawers @ 400# + empty weight = 5400# [est.] for the main cabinet alone, then the side cabinet. 4 casters = 1350# per caster...good luck finding that.

My roller frame is made of 2"x4"x1/4" angle iron. I loaded the drawers according to potential weight (light stuff on top, heavy on bottom, most used - sockets/impacts - in the middle) to keep a low center of gravity.

Finding casters to handle #1350 pounds each is easy, the real issue would be pushing a box with a weight of 5,400 pounds. Additionally when sizing casters for a load, you never plan on even distribution, at worse I would base the weight across 3 casters, since floors are not even. Spring loaded casters ease this somewhat, but I would use a 2:1 safety factor if that weight was realistically going to be moved around.

I havent been able to load it up yet since i got it yesterday and im off today.But from the looks of it its really nice.Good size drawers.I got the 25in one instead of the 22in because a co worker said that he knew someone that had the 22in and he didnt like it and traded it for the 25in.
