Hi GJ,

Been lurking here a while and chipped in a few times but this is the big thread to show the men from the boys, so time for me to step up.

I'm a weekend spanner monkey so have to work in a carport so tools live in the house and get wheeled outside for work. I also live in Dubai so there are NO decent tools, all the good stuff has to get shipping in from the states.

Here are the main boxes.
IMG_4717.JPG

They get supplemented with a couple of work mates with pillar drill / grinder and vice / pipe vice.
IMG_4715.JPG

Some of the contents.
Air tools hung on the side, home made holder from angle iron and connectors.
IMG_4745.JPG

Some of the obligatory draws.

3/8ths draw

Spanners

Pliers

And this is where it all has to live.

So not to clog this thread if you want to see more I have posted a few more (like 60+) photos here
http://diary-of-mgb.blogspot.com/2011/06/toy-box.html

Hope you guys approve / like.
Comments, questions and abuse always welcome.

Cheers,

I like your setup. What kind of boxes are those? You sound like an Englishman, what do you do in the U.A.E?

Yes I'm a Brit, I work as an engineer superitendent / port engineer for a oil tanker company. I'm a manager who pushes emails all day, don't get my hands dirty :(

The boxes are a mix, but all CHINESE (before you all cry I don't have any alteratives).
Tall = Namscon
Tops = King Tony
Small bottom = King Tony
Side box = JZX (repainted).

Cheers,
Richard B.

That my friend is the greatest tool you will ever own, Snap on makes 4 of them, respectively numbered PWZ0, 1, 2, and 3 from small to big, I have 1, 2, and 3. Every man should have a set of these. You can throw all of your crescent and pipe wrenches away after you use these. As long as you can get the jaws on whatever your working on, you'll break it loose, no matter how stripped or mangled it may be.

Think of them as a cross between a channel lock and a pipe wrench, the adjustable rod is attached to the top jaw and the handle to the bottom, just set the adjuster nut so you can get a grip on whatever it is you need then push on the other handle, no need to squeeze.

Everyone should have a set, trust me.

Moose that's an awesome collection, thank you for sharing! I have a few questions:

-Why no 45º picks? They look useless, but it's the only one I ever grab!
-Any goodies you recommend from tools.vw.com? It is so difficult to browse, I'm sure there are useful tools that I would never be able to find. I work on mk2/3 cars mainly but own a mk5 that will probably start breaking down soon.
-The super long Snap-on hard handle 1/4" drive; is that homemade? Looks useful!
-I see you have the Snap-on TT600 terminal tool set. Do you find many uses for those? I already have a the VAS1987/7A and /18.

You need at least 30mm 12pts axle nut and m14 xzn for rear brake and front bearing.

Also curius if anything other moose

The top section:

The contents of the magnetic tray that lives inside the top, two Hultafors knives, two LED Lenser flashlights and an Audi reversible screwdriver.

Image0148.jpg

Recognise anything, Monte? :)

Image0141.jpg

Image0140.jpg

Ball joint separators, hub pullers. This is one of my favourite drawers. :D

Image0142.jpg

Oil filter sockets, some pullers, coil spring compressors, bearing separator, Hazet trim pliers.

Image0144.jpg

Contents of the little red Snap-on box; parts from my mini puller set:

Image0145.jpg

Another misc drawer, cam pulley holders (3), vicsous fan wrenches and holders, brake file, test light, logic probe, clutch aligners, PB hose picks, hydrometers, D-rings, brake bleeding wrenches, some Stahlwille wrenches.

Image0146.jpg

Chemicals/Supplies drawer. Loctite, greases, oils, WD-40, carb cleaner, RTV silicone, etc.

Image0147.jpg

I'll try get some pics of the rest tomorrow, the other testers and such. When i change jobs i'm going to reorganise the box properly, instead of misc drawers of tools all over the place. Side locker hasn't been on for a year due to space in the ****** place i work, so lost a lot of nice storage space. :(

That is the best trim tool out there, bar none! I bought one a few years ago after borrowing one from a friend. A few months ago i lost it and was heartbroken. But then i got it back! Turns out i left it in a crappy Fiat Punto, it came back months later and was still in there on the floor! :D

I now have two of them, i had three but gave one to a friend. One of my favourite tools ever.

Maybe a Hazet 179-4 next. And a Kukko 204-2 bearing puller? :D

They have now changed the handle, it is like the longer Matador one you sent me, but slightly larger. Here on the left of the original one:

There's a seller on eBay.de (starflight_7, i think.) who i bought mine from, about 20 EUR. (Twice the price from VW, but VW dealer trade parts here no longer sell tools, you have to go through VW Tools & Equipment here now.)

My first post on this board showing my setup.

This is my old setup that was at my girlfriends house. Since then, I have sold the boxes as they were non-ball bearing. While they were nice (Craftsman Homeowner series), I am spoiled and want a bigger box. I have all of my tool stored in a plastic bin in my parents basement until I graduate college next spring and get my own garage.

Boxes are mostly filled with a Craftsman 255pc tool set. There is also a set of ratcheting Gear Wrenches and a few random Snap-On wrenches. Other than that the bottom two drawers are filled with extension cords, Black and Decker drill, and other random cheap tools including mallets and hammers.

I plan on buying the Harbor Freight 41" top and bottom chests and filling that up. That should be all I ever need for tool storage. I plan on painting the drawers black and buying the 32" red/black Craftsman cabinet to match. Then building my own workbench and I should be it!

I can't wait till I get my own place and start filling up the garage! Then I will be able to post up my new boxes and the rest of the garage!

Only pic of the drawers that I have.

Nice Box!

I do Like's me some ORANGE!!

Thanks! I like your box a lot too... I'll take more pics when I get the workstation in and once I get everything organized, those pics are from today, about 10 min after I finished transferring all the tools from my old box. I need to change some stuff up to maximize productivity...

Here is my flickr account I can't figure out how you guys are posting directly to the forum. I'm kind of tech stupid :lol_hitti It is loaded up backwards but it gives a scope of my boxes, I'm in the market for something bigger just haven't found anything yet!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/65002935@N03/5918511150/

When your posting there is a section at the bottom called additional options, click on manage attachments in that section which will allow you to upload photos directly

This is my work box, a 26" Montezuma Crossover Combo I got from strictlytoolboxes.com

It's going to be replaced within the next year as I'm already running low on space, but for the price, and the organizational options and the fact that I had less than a week from graduating tech school to getting a job, I didn't have much time to save for anything bigger. Great toolbox though, would recommend it to anyone who wants a roll cart and top chest.

Anyways, here it goes.
IMG_20110708_083903.jpg

IMG_20110708_083712.jpg

This is the main holder for sockets and wrenches. All the ones hanging are Wrights from 1/4" to 1 1/4", 6mm-24mm. The larger sizes are Craftsman Pros (USA Made).
The sockets are almost all the 6 points from the 299pc. set, and a few 12's up there to fill in space. And yes, they hold up very well in a heavy equipment environment.

IMG_20110708_083700.jpg

These are all the screwdrivers, flare, and ratchet wrenches, along with some bigger impacts (Mostly Wright, one GP 20mm 12pt deepwell for a very specialized task, one Snap-On 1 1/8" 12pt I found), 3/8" impacts, and some 1/2" metric hexes from Mac. Damn good screwdrivers.

IMG_20110708_083720.jpg

Pliers/junk drawer. Aleve for when I get smacked around by some of the heavy stuff I work on. Damn good pliers too, think I like those better than all my channel locks. Don't slay me, I really love them things!

IMG_20110708_083732.jpg

1/4" and 3/8" Drive drawer, except for the Mac 24" 1/2" Flex Head I couldn't find room for anywhere else. The Armstrong and Craftsman ratchets are for me, the Snap-On for if someone needs to borrow one. Don't want my good stuff getting messed up :spit: And all the extensions have been recently replaced by the dual-knurled Mac ones. And yeah, I know some stuff is crooked. That was the first one for this box I shadowed, and couldn't find my ruler. Guess my eyeballs need re-calibrated. The shadowing was something I carried over from my time as an airframes mech in the Marine Corps. Hard to go back to just rails.

IMG_20110708_083742.jpg

1/2" Drawer. This is the majority drive size I use. Again, the Snap-On is for whoever wants to borrow something, and the extensions have been replaced by the Mac ones. Absolutely love those Armstrong and Craftsman Premium ratchets. That 1/2" C-Man went to 210 ft.lb one time (by hand) and is still perfect.

IMG_20110708_083757.jpg

Impact Drawer, my absolute most used sockets. These have been put on my 1100ft.lb Mac 1/2" impact, and my buddy's 3/4" IR and held up very well. Great sockets.

IMG_20110708_083808.jpg

Hammers, nutdrivers, punches & chisels, snap-ring/lockring pliers, allens, and retrieval tools.

IMG_20110708_083819.jpg

Power/Air tool drawer. I would marry that Mac impact if I could. :bounce: That cordless Craftsman Pro 20v impact I got for $80, normally $260. Couldn't pass that up, and it performs incredibly well in the field. 300ft.lb of torque and has enough balls to work on the biggest dozer Case makes (well, not everything, but most stuff). Same with the Pro 20v drill. Too bad they phased 'em out, stupid friggin' Sears. And that's also where I keep socket rails and drill bits, driver bits, etc... Kinda hard to see, but the box for a 6" caliper, a multimeter, and then some more feeler gauges and **** right next to that.

IMG_20110708_083836.jpg

Last but not least, my can holder/junk holder. I'm planning on putting two more of these on the other side, that's how useful that thing is. I also drilled some holes so I could hang my longer pry bars. Also, my Mac 24" breaker bar. Love that thing, can break almost anything loose.

Now, my job is as a test technician, so we don't really do much field stuff or customer stuff. That's why I don't really need diagnostic tools or anything 3/4", the company supplies all of it. I am eventually gonna get some more bigger wrenches, like 1 3/8" and 1 7/16" because I do a lot of hydraulics work and I'm almost always borrowing these from tool room.

Wait....So you buy the most expensive tools to lend out and you use the junk?:headscrat

Haha, kinda. I do like Snap-On ratchets, but my Craftsman and Armstrong proudly display USA on 'em. I bought them before reading on GJ about how they no longer stamp them. So, since drawer shadowing is such a pain in the *** to do, they'll stay there. Eventually, I'll bring them to my home box to use, whenever I get around to redoing my work drawers.

It's nice seeing craftsman in a work place setting. I for one like the handles better on those craftsman ratchets then the snap on that I have, never like the little round handle.
