More -- it's pretty heavy, yet still quite manageable

BTW, not that I'm nuts about wrenches, but I work on old British cars and they use Whitworth -- so an extra drawer had to hold the old Brit standards.

It definitely is heavier than the Craftsman boxes I was looking at.

The last pic is from my old Craftsman Professional set that I bought in 1979. It doesn't have ball bearing drawers, but with some oil now and then they are smooth as silk.

Ok, here's my KRL1003 box. Completely out of room! Need a riser and maybe a side locker (or 2!). Pretty much everything in the box is Snap-On or Bluepoint.

I just read this thread for the first time... Wowwwwww! That is absolutely incredible...

I have a friend that finally wore off on me... His tool collection is much more impressive than mine.

"Much more impressive than yours??!!??:shocking: Then, all I can say is that you have to get your buddy to post photos of his collection here!

I don't ever try to justify the tools, that would take away the fun of collecting them!

No justification necessary!

I've been talking to my SO guy, I should be able to put my air tools in the drawers when I convert the middle 4" drawer into two 2-inch drawers, and I'll have another full drawer's worth of room. You can lock that air tool holder though, it's pretty sweet.

How much is it for the 2 inch drawers? I think the two 2 inch drawers would be better than the 4" drawers.

Ask and you shall see at
http://www.early-mustang.com/charles/petes_box

This is a drawer by drawer photo gallery (I had to do this for insurance purposes). The rollaway is a KRL1004 quad bank. The top chest is a KRL1201, and the locker is a KRL1012. I am planning to get the matching riser for the stainless steel top sometime later this year.

For those of you that may be wondering, yes I have used almost every tool in these boxes at one time or another.

Enjoy!

Oh. My. God.

I just popped wood...

Seriously, though, that is absolutely insane!!!!! I hope you two have a very comprehensive insurance policy! Any idea how much you have invested in this little hobby of yours?!

Never again will I have the slightest twinge of guilt for blowing $20 on some vintage ratchet! Thank you for liberating me.:)

What kind of work do you do? Most of the tools look brand new! Especally all of those die grinders. I though I had a lot of snap on tools! I was wrong!

I think I also saw a Superior tubing bender, and Stanley utility knife blades.

Get all of those out of there. Immediately!

Pete, does Snap-on know about you? You are their poster-child and they should sponsor you!

Are you a snap on dealer? That is rediculous. You have more tools in that box than all of the tools in a 5 bay shop I work at. That is NUTS.

I will say though, most of those tools look brand new still.

I know exactly how much I have invested in my tools and it is not open for discussion. :)

The job that allows me to own all of these tools is that I am an information technology director of operations. I was an mechanic in high school and before I went to college.

That sure is a lot of tools, but I just have to ask, whats with the hammers?!
You never know when you need to be gentle and not use the BFH!! I admit I have gone a little overboard with the hammers. Did you notice the Fisher Price plastic hammers? My kids added those.

OK. this just won't do...

I never suggested that all of my tools are Snap-on. I have 4 Sata HVLP paint guns and 3 Hutchins sanders. I buy and use what works for me and sometimes Snap-on doesn't make it. I have a very good business relationship with my Snap-on dealer. He calls me to buy stuff when he is having a slow week!

Remember, Snap-on has a lifetime warranty on most of their tools (pneumatic and electronics excluded). Most of my tools I bought through eBay or local pawn shops. I have never paid dealer list price for anything. I have bought used, worn stuff and warranteed them for new. I bought the quad box through eBay; that was my best deal ever.

You fellows are missing the point! I know the answer to this:

It's "just because".:lol_hitti
:):)Sorta...I believe that the job is easier when you use the right tool for the job.

I have other Snap-on stuff that is not in the pictures. I have a small cart, creeper, seat creeper, 2 reel lights, stool, and mig welder.

Regards,
Pete

That is wise; your wife might stumble on this forum.:)

I have a very good business relationship with my Snap-on dealer.

Clearly!

Most of my tools I bought through eBay or local pawn shops. I have never paid dealer list price for anything. I have bought used, worn stuff and warranteed them for new. I bought the quad box through eBay; that was my best deal ever.

The only thing better than having good tools is getting said tools at a bargain.

I have other Snap-on stuff that is not in the pictures. I have a small cart, creeper, seat creeper, 2 reel lights, stool, and mig welder.

The "how" & "why" of your collection is purely secondary. You have a hobby which is clearly important to you, and have amassed the most impressive (and, may I say, sexiest) collection of mechanics tools I have ever seen. You seem to have done so on-the-cheap (relatively) too, and that makes it even better.

And, should you ever suffer a sharp blow to the head, and decide you want to divest yourself of your collection, you might very well make money on the deal. How many people can say that of their hobby?

I wonder how much Snap-on tools would cost if their warranty wasn't subject to widespread fraud

Wait why is buying used worn out tools and warrantying them fraud? If the tool has a lifetime warranty and wears out why does it matter who exchanges it--shouldn't make any difference. The only difference is the percieved value of a tool that is "worn-out" being less than a new tool by someone unfamiliar with their options.

Obviously things like intentionally breaking tools to get a new one w/ nice finish, upgrade to a new model, etc is fraud as is turning in fake broken tools for the warranty to get a real one. (I'm unfamiliar w/ the Snap-On warranty terms, I suppose they may say original purchaser, etc)

I certainly hope you are not suggesting that what I have done is fraud. There is nothing fraud about it. Snap-on's warranty is lifetime for certain tools regardless of the owner. All three of the Snap-on dealers I have bought from over the past 12 years have encouraged me to buy from other sources and warranty anything damaged or worn. If i have something worn, I take it to the dealer and have them make the call on if it should be warranteed or not.

Snap-on tools always have cost more than any other tools manufacturer; their high prices are nothing new (totally discounts your suggestion of higher prices because of "fraud"). They have built and are selling a perceived brand image.

Pete

Actually, I am. You, and innumerable others, are using the system of dealer warranty replacements to gain new tools without paying Snap-on for them. The dealers know that's an essential part of maintaining business, but it used to be a tacit arrangement, rather than one on such lavish public display.

Obviously that drives prices up.

Snap-on's warranty is lifetime for certain tools regardless of the owner.

Their terms of sale neither state nor imply transferability beyond the "Customers who purchase Product from authorized Snap-on distribution channels for use in their profession".

fraud may be too strong a word. the tool has a lifetime warrantee and the cost of warranty should be the same whether it has had 1 or several owners unless it has been abused. remember snap on was paid for the tool by the DEALER.most of the ebay and pawn shop purchasers are home buyers so those tools won't be subjected to the same use as a "proffesional". obviously your last statement is correct but it is up to the individual dealer..........btw i have never had a snap on dealer refuse warranty regardless of where i purchased the tool.

I like the Tech 1000 box but my top drawer feels sloppy when you open it. And it's not even close to being full. I actually talked to my Snap on Dealer today and talked to him about a Used Master Series box he has on the truck. I may end up trading this Matco box I got at home for it and bringing the Tech 1000 home and taking the Snap on to work. But I'm not sure yet. I just do oil changes and little stuff here and there at work. I'm actually looking into getting a second job part time at an indipendant shop for a while.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one, Jononon...

I'm pretty sure there is a legal ruling that prevents companies from limiting a Lifetime Warranty to only the Original Purchaser. Next-to-certain I have read that before, but, of course, now that I want to quote it, I can't find it.

But even if there wasn't such a ruling, the Warranty would absolutely have to specifically exclude that eventuality, which it does not.

Stay tuned...

I have a question - how can they restrict the warranty to the original purchaser if they don't require a receipt when you warranty an item? Does that mean you have to hope that the dealer remembers you purchasing it from them, or save all your receipts?

I don't understand how it can be considered fraud to get warranty service on an item that is eligible for such (i.e. not abused). Lets say that a "professional" buys a wrench from his snappy dealer and then later breaks the tool under normal use. Well, he could go back to this dealer and get the wrench warrantied, but instead throws it in a box and forgets about it. If he later falls on hard times and sells the box of tools to a pawn shop, why can't I buy those tools and then warranty the wrench that he should have warrantied himself in the first place? This is just my personal take on it.

Yea exactly, they sell the product with the knowledge that it could be warrantied at any time. That does increase the price over Chinesium tools, but not because people other than the original owners are getting them replaced. If you buy a misused tool and warranty it, thats fraud, but thats the same as the original misused tool being warrantied by the misuser... I don't see how it has anything to do with who was the original purchaser.

Funny, my Snap-On dealer not only doesn't ask where the tools came from, she KNOWS that I've bought them elsewhere and fixes them on warranty.

She has replaced broken tools I bought on ebay, fully knowing the exact situation, and didn't so much as flinch.

She traded in my old coarse tooth 3/8" snap-on ratchet that she KNEW I bought on ebay and ended up selling the other snap-on sockets that came with it, and I paid a grand total of $5 for the ratchet. Even knowing that, she gave me $40 credit towards a new F872 for my old ratchet.

Guess what? When I need a new tool I head right to the truck. Don't think for one second they haven't made their money off of me.
