I got my new setup all filled up and mostly organized. I have a little more room than I was expecting! I moved a few bulky, rarely used items onto a shelf and freed up some room.

Home brewed add on. I bought a KR557 drawer off of Ebay and mounted ball bearing slides on it. Then made brackets to hang it under the box. I figured it was dead space anyway so, why not?

That said, If I were to do it again, I would have bought a newer drawer already able to accept roller slides, as the 557 was a friction slide box, so I had to make a template for the slots and holes to mount the slides. I transferred the holes to the drawer and with a 1/8" drill and a few hand files, got the slides located. The only goofy part was I welded the slides to the bracket that attaches to the underside of the box. I used heavy angle iron (way too thick, really....just scrap pieces) so the clips on the slides would not have fit anyway. Lesson learned.

I doesn't lock, but I have toyed with the idea of adding a lock and decided it wasn't worth my time. I only store extra parts, pieces and templates for work in it .

What's up with the upside down Snappy badge?

I like how a guy on the internet, probably thousands of miles away can see that, but my dealer can't. I've been waiting six months for him to ask.....

My shirt got snagged on it and snapped off one of the mounting pins. It also got a little bent so now it won't lay flat. Upside down seems to keep the loose end out of my way.

I've been debating a bit over the past 2 weeks. I ended up buying the 56" HF box today. Figured for 699 I couldn't beat it. We had fun getting it off of the truck. So far, I am pretty happy with the box, I think it will serve me well. I have started moving stuff to it, still alot to go. I keep moving stuff around as I think of other ideas. The full wrench drawer is my metric stuff. The empty wrench drawer is standard.. Always used metric more than standard in the past! Here are some pics.

blackgold, how does that irwin quick-adjust pipe wrench work for u? I got one for christmas, went to use it for the first time on a tie rod and it snapped like it was made of glass, exchanged it even for a "normal" 18" pipe wrench.

I've had that thing for 5 years probably. It's worked really good. It's my go to for big things. It was left outside for almost a year at one point, works great. I'm glad I have it.

The kubota did not like the weight but it picked the box off of the skid.

Notice the three reinforcements on the bottom of the large drawer

here is the inside of the third bay. The picture is taken looking up. there are 4 reinforcements on the top of the box (2 pictured) that help support the SS top.

Put my sockets in the top drawer. These last 2 photos show the color better.

Now that i have this huge tool box, i wanted to make a better socket holder.
I thought the Grips brand socket holders would be a little flimsy to carry to a job. So, i mounted them to a steel plate to give the tray some strength. Made the plate just a little bigger then the trays to protect the plastic sides.
Not a mod for someone with limited drawer space.

I finally got around to taking a couple pics of my box.

My box started as a Snap-on lower with a Mac upper. When I was in college I had a summer job washing cars at a Jeep/Toyota dealer. I was stuffed into the basement, next to a hack of a mechanic that quit while I was there. The box remained. I found out that one of the other mechanics owned it, and loaned it out after he bought his snazzy new Craftsman box. He offered it to me for $50, and I gladly agreed! A couple years later I ran into him and his Craftsman stuff was falling apart and he was begging me to sell him his old box back, but by then I had enough of myself invested in it that I wasn't letting it go. The Snap On bottom has 3 drawers and a missing roll-top lid for the large open bottom. My father ran a body shop and a few weeks after I got the box he was painting a Grand Am in "GM Bright Red", so I stripped the boxes so he could paint them. I polished the aluminum bits and from that point on I had a great looking box that served me for many years until I out-grew it. 2 summers ago I upgraded the Snap On lower to a Harbor Freight 41" cabinet, which is great. I still have some room to grow in it.

Anyway, pics. Here's the whole box:

I just ordered some wrench organizers, so I'll hold off on pics of those drawers until I get a chance to do them up right. The rest of the drawers are full of misc stuff that isn't as photogenic.

Jim - What brand are those socket trays?? They look like the HF brand, just red and blue. Plus, the HF ones don't fit side by side like that.
