Picked up my top box today. New HF US General 44" top and bottom. The old HF 44" next to mine is my dads.

Still a few more. The purple Snap-On box is my old box that will be going to my son once I redo it again for him.

Excellent work, beemerguy!

Any chance of a pic with the rear doors open? How deep is that rear compartment?

Awesome, beemerguy! Thanks for the pics. That's quite a bit of storage back there. So that's where Beta got the idea for their Super Tank...

A nice start!

I remember my first drawer-ed toolbox, and still have it. Hold my cleaning supplies for my guns in it.

Shocksandstruts--Those two boxes look like they matched up well. ;)

I have a bottom box like yours that I store welding rods, wire, tungsten, and other odds and ends. I've had it for about 15 years and still works great.

You will be very happy for a while........ Then you will need something bigger, then even bigger than before...:willy_nil

First post here.

Garage journal has inspired me to get my stuff organized. I am 54 years old, and have been buying tools since I was 5 years old. Yet I have never had a decent box.

Today is the day.

Any suggestions?

The used pro stuff on Craigslist is ridiculously priced (Matco, Snapon, etc).
Sams doesn't carry anything.
Napa doesn't have anything in stock.
Sears seems overpriced for what it is.

My brother-in-law says to go to HF, so I checked them out yesterday. Although I wasn't overwhelmed by the quality, it would be better than having to rummage through six or seven different boxes to find what you want.

There is some great advice on this board, and I have really enjoyed lurking.

Go to Home depot! The one near me has Big boxes on Clearance. Made in USA by Waterloo.

I Got a $270 6 drawer bottom roller for $145 and They have a $140 top 6 drawer box for $75.

Harbor Freight Cant even beat that for $220

TWINCAM00 I slid them off and painted them metallic black and put a bunch of clear on it. I think it looks better and its held up great. Ive had it done for about a month now and pulled on the handles a ton. Works great. Thought about a different color, but i think the box is going to get sanded and painted ORANGE!!!!

HUGE adjustable wrench was for removing the yoke on my old cherokee. That thing has been worth it weight in gold doing rear end and drive train work.

Thanks!!!

The std 26" wide stuff at HF is iffy at best. You need to look at the wide "pro" level tool storage, the rollers in particular, for the higher quality boxes. Don't even look at the brown wrinkle finish 26" wide stack; its total trash by any standards.

Verify the made in USA status of Waterloo if you look at them. a lot of Waterloo is now imported AFAIK.

If you want a "std width" (26-7" wide) stack, Sears has (or had) a gladiator stack ("made" by Westinghouse? IIR, and no clue on COO...) that
was better than the rest of what I saw at my local Sears, last December.

You are unlikely to find US made boxes at bargain basement prices anywhere..

The other option is the used market for older (at least 20 years or so) Craftsman rollers and stacks. Lots of these come up on CL and some are in great condition, and are WAY better than the current crop of craftsman boxes.

You can also find deals on Kennedy rollers periodically, and those are first cabin of not trashed.

The Husky Branded Waterloo boxes at HD are marked "Made in USA with Imported and Domestic Components"

Basically Id say im fair to assume the Casters, trim, liners, etc are the imported part.

The Box I bought still had the Shipment sticker to the HD store from Sedalia, MO.

OK think I got this thing organized. Swamped some drawers around to better suit the needs plus it just makes more sense with this drawer set up.

Sockets in the top of the top box?? You must be really tall, i couldnt see them.

I'm only 5'10" and I can see in the top of the box just fine. I don't have the top box myself, but I've visited Harbor Freight enough to look at it. It was a concern of mine as well, that I might not be able to adequately see into the top, but it is not a problem.

I am 6'3" so seeing in the top is no problem. I have always stored sockets in the top of my boxes to put them any where else is just strange to me.

Yea, I keep all my 3/8" and 1/4" stuff on/in the top, all the 1/2", 3/4", 1" is in the bigger drawers below. They just don't get used as much day to day.

Kind of funny because my 1/4 stuff sometimes will collect dust as well as 3/8 LOL. I spend most of my time with my 1/4 , 3/4 and sometimes 1inch drive stuff.

Because the Craftsman stuff doesn't do the job-- right? IMHO--- SCREW Snap-On. I mean it's your money-- buy what you want but I'm not paying SO prices for stuff I can get elsewhere for less than half the price. I don't even go on the truck. Too many options available. I'll buy SO if I can get it on Ebay for a song. I work with my toolbox for a living and just can't fathom why someone who doesn't would even consider buy SO stuff. Sometimes I think this whole site is one big ad for Snap-On. I assume my rant is a constant one on this site but sorry-- I only visit occasionally. Buy what makes you happy and congrats on the new house-- impressive in this economy.
