Ya. Gonna **** when you actually work on it.

I built a 2x5 workbench with a 1 3/4" side grain maple block top, and I find that wooden tops clean easily with a rag and some light oil (such as WD40), and a $10 Jegs mat centered on the work area will prevent most scuffs.

Man that thing looks awesome, that diamond plate is bad ***, and it's hard to go wrong with orange and black. Nice job, wish more people would do custom jobs and post em. Your post may very well inspire me to get off my *** and get busy on this old snappy box I have trial 5 plans for.

Thanks, but it's not such a big deal, biggest pain in the A** was the sanding / painting (high humidity (guess i have to re-do some areas...), i love diamond plate (a few rivets and it's done, works great and looks good), here another picture of my "main box"

Again very slick with the diamond plate but really you got to stop, before I have a tool bomb explode in my shop and go on a toolbox customizing spree.

just do it, it's fun to do it and give you joy once you're done, and of course you can modify it exactly to your needs.

Finally got around to taking some tool box pics. This is the ORIGINAL Craftsman Professional line. This came out in 1989-90. They offered red and black. Before this Cman had the basic home level stuff that was all red and an upgraded version that was red with dark gray, almost black drawers that everyone remembers.

If you wanted a good box you found a truck and bought a commercial box. I was really close to getting a Snappy and these came out. From memory, I spent around $1200 for all of it.

The top box has slides on the small drawers. All full-width drawers are ball bearing, a first for Cman. My local store had the top and bottom on display in red. I ordered them in black and in the brochure inside the boxes when I was setting them up saw the ad for the mid box. I ordered it as well.

It is heavy. The top box is hard for two people to place. It is all pretty solid and has seen many years of continuous weekend home use. Best part about the pics is my assistant helping in the shop all the time.

Tom

I have to get my tools to school this week, so this is what I'm taking. Everything here is on their required tool list and thankfully I already had most of it so there wasn't another big expense for school. I have the top and intermediate boxes for this roll-around (and another top box, a 2-drawer hand box, and a rally box), but there's not a whole lot of required tools and there is a limit on box height. Would have liked another drawer or two to keep the wrenches loose and have more room for welding gear required later on. I thought about ordering a couple drawers from Sears but decided to save my money toward a good service cart when I start working. I did rearrange the drawers to get the sockets where I want and keep the hammers where I want but out of the tall drawer so it doesn't hang up in the slides.

Hey O M Jeep, how do you like those Tekton wrenches? They look pretty good in the pics.

Also, the smoked-up wooden socket holder board thing looks pretty interesting. Did you make that? Is it drilled out for the sockets or are there dowels in there?

The Tektons are a lot beefier than I was expecting, very satisfying weight to them, and yes, I originaly had planned to use peg board, but too many holes werent right, and none of the store bought organizers really worked well, so I got 1/4", 3/8"s and 1/2" dowels, cut them 3/4" long and used 1/4" plywood, once I had all the sockets where I wanted them I realized it was impossible to mark them, so I fired up the propane torch and burned the wood around them, worked extremely well, then I took them off and marked what sizes to drill on what lines and where and voila, custom socket organizer.

Dillithium - I believe they are the Pittsburgh brand offest box ends, they are about 12 bucks a set with the 20% off coupon. i have a set in SAE and METRIC, love them, they have worked great every chance that i needed them. Didn't know what i was missing out on until i got a set and started using them.

Please don't mind the mess. I had to shove everything out of the way, as I just got done with an engine swap this past weekend. The garage is in dire need of a cleaning! I can't stand it in the shape it's in now...

The Mac box I have, I paid $1500 for it, and it came with 90% of the tools you see in it! :rocker: Blackhawk rachet wrenches, Mac sockets, lots of craftsman stuff and Kobalt stuff. The box was only 9 months old when I picked it up!

O M Jeep, I like the organization. Especially the socket board and the propane torch idea!

Have you read the Mechanicnamedjohn thread on here? Think it's called "my harbor freight investment" or something. Your toolbox reminded me of him. He started his own business with all HF tools and did complete engine rebuilds and everything. He was able to save up enough money to open a big shop and work on Lambos and everything. He has been upgrading to Mac or Matco, forgot which one and I think some snap on. You should search for his threads if you haven't seen them yet.

I have read his thread, I even thought about posting there, I really liked his collection, it was like looking in my boxes and wishlist, I also use all mine daily and have personally found that 1. if your not careless they will last a long time, low cost or not, and 2. where I live, 115 miles from the closest HF, it's still closer on average than any of the trucks. HF isn't right for everyone, but they do well for me.

Welcome! Do the lights come on when you open the box, or do you have a switch for it?

ATC, what brand are those very long ratcheting box wrenches?
I'm not ATC, but it looks to me like they say EZ RED.

My KRL722 in royal blue was just delivered. What a beast! Its so sturdy compared to my craftsman, quite amazing actually. I love the full width drawers, tons of room for sockets and wrenches. I still need to arrange it better. I just threw most of my tools in the top drawer, I will probably buy some Hansen trays to make it look nicer. Anyways, check it out. I like being able to use the Snap-on screwdriver tray and still have plenty of room in the drawer. in my craftsman box, that tray took up an entire drawer!

Be weary of the hansen socket holders, if you are OCD like me you will have to fill every peg in order to be happy. I spent at least $100 on sockets that I could have done with out just to fill the empty pegs.
