NEW BOX

Out grew my mac tools top box and recently felt like I could use a bigger box, found this on eBay for the right money, I love it, but... I fear it may be a bit big for in my van

It's not organised properly yet, it's like moving house lol, it's a right mess

From last summer.

The pics I wanted to upload exceed the data limit. Never Miiiiinddd!

The pics I wanted to use are in the "Build something with your kids" thread. They uploaded just fine over there but here they don't. I just don't know how computers can work fine one day and not worth a $hit the next. :dunno:

that sounds like either an issue with your online file server, or this thread has a limit on picture size, unlike the other thread.

try uploading thumbnails of your pics, maybe that will work better for ya.

I'm new to the forum, thought I would share my box at home. I'm no mechanic by trade... just in the spare time. Here are some pics of my setup and trust me it stays this organized all the time.

Okay where can I get this box? This looks perfect to take on wheeling trips and keep it tied down in the crawler

yep , me too, looks like it could be a great box to toss in my trail rig

the kipper box can be had from here

It's a good box, but pelican's answer to it is better imho. It's here

I've used both and for the extra hundred dollars the pelican case is really worth it. The pelican box is simply the best field tool box I've ever used. Foam is a must with it tho or you will here nothing but your tools slamming around.

Damn those are not cheap:sad: But it would pretty nice to have all my tools in something like that vs ammo cans or soft tool bags. I don't do a ton of rides where I can't get to my trailer/truck easily but these would be awesome for long remote rides.

What did you use to keep your plyers all sitting up on one side? I like that idea!

It's a plyworx pliers rack

It's GRIP I bought it off a tools truck, not snapon,matco... just some local guy that always has some decent tools at good deals, but here's a link i found to the same set.

I wanted an 84 epiq with top and locker. Now I want even more. I love the green mica. Makes my 68 look tiny. Did you get custom drawers? In the lower right corner mine has one big drawer.

Just caught that post -- Yes, I dropped the 10" drawer and put 2 4's and a 2 in it's place (free of charge, of course). I always disliked those super deep skinny width drawers on any box I've had. I only have about 2 items that need that depth of space and they are used rarely enough I decided to store them in the side locker int this go 'round. I want usable drawers for all my most needed stuff and only go in the locker on occasion. The only down side to custom ordering drawers is it slowed down the wait time to get it and then they forgot to change the drawer liners to match (missing 2 -- but the tool man made that right immediately).

Yeah they are pricey. It's is one of those things that takes a while to justify. You may get lucky on some kipper boxes in a mil surplus store or site. The pelican case toolboxes hit service 4 or 5 years ago so it will be a while before they find their way into the surplus circuit.

I got mine off a small run on sniper's hide. Under a hundred bones, it came with foam but they smelled and was not gonna fit my set of tools. I pulled that.

But the idea was the box to be for the jeep. It's heavy but worth it. the box needs more tools though.

Just picked it up at an auction for $95, 1973 model, Thinking of repainting it but I can't decide, I was gonna buy the new flat black craftsman box but am so glad I got this instead, the quality is so much better.

The top has the leftover sockets from the 309 pc set that didnt make it into my truck box. Ordered HF socket organizers but they don't fit, thinking of cutting some oak bards to fit then drilling holes for the sockets.
IMG_20130403_162707_966_zpsf9288685.jpg

Top drawers full of extra sockets, when I decided that I wanted to start getting better tools dad let me raid all of his unorganized boxes and drawers full of multiple sockets and brands for decent stuff. These are all craftsman sockets and a few screwdrivers.
IMG_20130403_162802_743_zpsd4d589ea.jpg

New Ernst screwdriver rack, of course the drawers are a little shallow for longer screwdrivers, cant decide whether to cut down the rack to fit or not.

Missed the drawer pic of these, ebay grab $127 not bad I hope, got a set of SAE coming I got for $137. Also have a green 24oz dead blow hammer on the way.
IMG_20130403_130651_967_zpscb6954a2.jpg

1/4" sockets, the 1/4" deep well fit in this drawer but but 3/8" and 1/2" won't
IMG_20130403_162901_344_zps1ebbb943.jpg

Extra craftsman wrenches, got all of these for $5 at the same auction as the box.
IMG_20130403_162913_724_zpsc0554d53.jpg

1/2" sockets in the first drawer they fit in, really would like them all to fit up higher.
IMG_20130403_162926_591_zpsf3886ad0.jpg

Torque wrenches I picked up for $40, thought I did good but a little research shows thats about what they are worth, like new made in Taiwan look like northen tool specials.
IMG_20130403_162936_322_zps25d9c28c.jpg

My truck box, beat up Montezuma full of Craftsman. Two rows of ratcheting wrenches in the back. Had it in the shop as my other isn't complete yet.

Missed getting a picture of my rollaround Homak cart I got last week for cost from my cousin's NAPA store, he ordered it for someone and it was smaller than expected. when I slide the top open my tool bag fits perfect.

9 piece set (reviews all over the place, one person claims they're made in Brazil and Mexico, another customer says mostly made in USA) worth the $84 price tag? Probably more than I would need, but better then a 3 pc set
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001T4K1O6/?tag=atomicindus08-20

They also have a 5 pc set for $43 hmmm...

Couple years ago Amazon had some screaming deals on Nicholson file sets. When mine arrived, they were a hodge podge of Made in Brazil, Made in Mexico, and Made in U.S.A. All were of exceptional quality though, I believe I only had to debur the edge of one out of the many I received.

Appreciate the info, just need to decide if I should get the 3, 5, or 9 pc set.
