If my neighbors posted pictures of my messy garage in a public forum, I'd be livid.
If my neighbors posted pictures of my dirty cars in a public forum, I'd be pissed.
If my neighbors posted pictures of my unmowed lawn in a public forum, I'd be angry.
If my neighbors posted pictures of my disorganized toolbox in a public forum, I'd be mad.
If my neighbors posted pictures of my beautiful projects in a public forum, I'd be proud.

To each his own.

like you say, to each his own.

and to me and my coworker, this isnt anything.

i did a similar thing with my socket boards. i used the steel ones, and 3/8 plywood:

the 1/4 and 3/8 chrome rack:

and in the drawer:

and the 3/8 & 1/2 chrome/ impact rack:

and in it's drawer:

before switching to all impacts:

before the side cabinet mod:

all in a HF 5 drawer cart BTW. not all of us have the snappys, macs, matcos, or cornwell stuff... :)

Is that 1/2 inch ratchet from Kraftwerk?

I've been lurking on this site for a bit now and decided I would show the world my humble box. It might not be much but it holds everything (almost) I need for work, and it has some meaning to me.

Nice little box! However, I see that roller hiding in the background. You're holding out on us!

Welcome to GJ by the way!

Not much....and looking to upgrade based upon the needs of my next job.

2004 C Man BB Grip latch that I bought new....been sitting back in MD since 2009. I'm graduating college here soon and bringing it to MO. My tools here in KS are all in small boxes and buckets....wouldn't fit in the C Man anyway.

We'll see how it works in a professional setting. The only real duty it's seen is 8 months at a CAT dealer.

the other tech i work with has the same unorganized pile of tools, but he somehow knows exactly where everything is, its effin magical.

job.

I have a good friend just like this. I have offered on numerous occasions to buy him a small tool box, instead he uses cardboard shoe boxes. :lol_hitti Random heaping piles of sockets, screwdrivers, etc. He lives in an apartment so he has to be pretty portable, but man, shoe boxes? Somehow he always knows where each piece is. And he is dang good at guessing a socket size by looking at a bolt. He will look at something dig his hand into his box, and 2 seconds later he is ready to go. :willy_nil Absolutely amazes me.

Really nice boxes and tools here guys.

I would like to post mine, but feel they would look pathetic in comparison.

Whoop!!! Finally get to add to this thread. Picked up a CL score on Friday....this is a "pre-cleanup" photo.....

It's the "odd drawer layout" Steel Glide from Sams, but it was in great shape, and the best "bargain" I'd seen on CL in the year I've been hunting......

Really wanted the Extreme RXE5618 combo, but scored the SG 5623 for less than half the price of the Extreme, so......I'm happy!

Soon as it's clean, and stocked up, I'll post better photos!

That is a cool box. The only problem with it is the 18" depth. Between that and the top box is a higher center of gravity and being more prone to tip over.

Yup, it is quite shallow, but for a "home" box, that will rarely move.....I can live with it. (Read "rarely" as "never"..... :lol_hitti )

I would never spend $5k on a home box. I constantly wheel and deal on Craigslist. I have about $1600 in to this box after trading a few times

After drooling over all the other boxes posted, I guess I can muster up the courage and return the favor. Please don't laugh. I am a younger guy. Its not the best, but it does what I need it to and it is within my limited budget. This is my main mechanics box, it contains the commonly used hand tools. I have a few other boxes, but nothing real picture worthy right now.

Bottom box is a mid 80's waterloo 12 drawer. Pretty heavy box. It has lots of storage for a bottom box, it is roughly equal to a standard bottom and middle box. The top is an early 90's Craftsman; kind of a strange box. It is in really good condition. One thing that is really nice is that it is 17" deep. I think it is a pretty rare Craftsman box, with the front door. Honestly it looks neat, but that fold down top can be a real PITA. You can't have deep socket standing up in the top back row as the door will not clear them. So my socket organization (just standing on end, no trays or the like) goes from 1/2" up front to 1/4" in the back. Not ideal, but it works. Finally the side shelf is from a vintage type writer cart that I found and salvaged. Really heavy duty and folds quite nicely. I didn't think I would ever want a side shelf, but it does come in handy at times.

Wrench organization is thanks to an idea on this forum. Metric on left, SAE on right. Only a handful of my wrenches match. I started with a 10 piece (5sae, 5metric) years ago when I got a large craftsman tool set as a present. Have been building upon that as needed. Roughly 85% of the items in the box were bought used, but 99% are USA made  It is like a buffet of USA tools brands in my box, you name a manufacture, I probably have a piece of some sort made by them. All of my tools are meant to be used, I take very good care of them, but they are by no means a collection to look at.

I can't speak for Bikes, but I was, well kinda still am. I worked at a John Deere dealer for years before switching to bobcat. It is very different from working cars. I personally like it better then cars. Still a lot of rebuilding in ag from engines, trans, hydraulic pumps and motor, and final drives. Modern tractors have electronics that put a car shame. Kinda cool setting up a tractor to drive itself. Beside tractors, there is combine, choppers, windrowers, sprayers, bailers, and a number of other pieces of equipment that all have to be worked on. Guys tend to find what they like and specialize in certain stuff. It helps to have a farm back ground. I was told when I started that they have tried auto techs in the past and they all gave up. I was flat out told they expect about 6 months before I would quit. I hung in there and would have to be pretty hungry go back to car.

My boxes are 18" in depth and I wouldn't/couldn't have it any other way for my home garage. They fit perfectly against the side wall, leaving clearance for my two cars. Any deeper and I'd either be hitting it with the car or having to park one car outside in the driveway. Two access doors and a washer and dryer prevent them from being placed against the front wall.

AG equipment electronics putting a modern car to shame?? I say you haven't been under the hood of a modern car. :wtf:

This tool box started with a snap on bottom box (30years ago) a Waterloo top box (25 years ago ) and a harbor freight side box 5 years ago. The HF box is the nicest of the three as it has roller slides and seems to be as we'll built as the old snap on. Only thing I don't like is the wrinkle finish paint,it doesn't wipe off well.
