Anything with ball bearing slides is going to come with oil on the bearings already.

Thousands of boxes a year get loaded up without taking them apart to lubricate them, and no issues.

Think about it- you spend that much on a tool box, should it be necessary to take it apart and modify it before you can use it? No.
Should it be? No.

Would I rather lubricate my toolbox so I know it is lubricated? Yes.

Better safe than sorry.

It never stopped people from removing stock parts from vehicles and putting mods.

Otherwise, companies like Edelbrock, AMG, Brabus, and Koni wouldn't exist.

Right, but you don't think it's weird that most people don't buy that stuff, do you?

His reaction was shock that everyone doesn't immediately disassemble their toolbox upon delivery.

I'm not saying don't do it, it's your box, do what you want. Im just saying it isn't necessary.

Also, personally, I'd never use grease on toolbox slides (or any other bearing not sealed). I'd use oil. Grease traps dirt and leads to gritty bearings.

My surprise was to "most people don't use anything" as in most people don't have any lubrication on their slides at all. Not the disassembly part.

The blue light under your box is totally illogical but it takes an already cool box to an even higher level of cool.:rocker:
yea I catch a ton of **** from the guys at work about them too. :D
That's a badass setup, man!

Does it have hydraulics too? :lol_hitti
Nah im more of an air ride kinda guy :lol_hitti
That or he takes it drifting and under tractor trailers on late nights!

Either way nice box...I'm jealous

New to the site guys and am in love with all the eye candy I see in here. Just figured I'd share my work rig with you guys. I was lucky enough to land a government gig that supplies tools and box, so saves me some money although my personal collection at home continues to grow lol. they do give us a pretty nice set though. Filled with proto, Armstrong, and snap on.

I use an old card catalog for my main tool box.

Old folks like it because they know what it is. Young folks like it because they've never seen one before.

Wow that's awesome!! First time I ever seem one of them being used as a tool box! I remember those things in elementary school. I remember being taught to use them in first grade n thought "how or why the heck do I need to know this"

Haha that's awesome. Crazy that we had to look up and check books that way in libraries back in elementary school.

Cryptic-

I don't think you have enough hex L keys, better get few more sets! [emoji1]

How do you like those screwdriver organizers? I've eyed them a few times but always thought they'd fall over too easily. I'm sure the long strip towards the back of the drawer is OK, but do the two shorter strips you've got stay up or are you constantly righting them when you remove a screwdriver?

Oh and I've got that same Fluke meter, rarely see anyone with that model. Good pick! And nice setup overall [emoji106]

Here is a picture of the three pliers drawers.

This is a newer card catalog with plastic drawers and a formica top, which is perfect for a shop. The plastic drawers have a solid bottom, whereas the older card catalogs with the wooden drawers have a gap in the center, the length of the drawer. If you got one with wooden drawers you would have to put a piece of plywood or something in the bottom to keep the tools from falling through.

The little spring-loaded thing in the back used to keep the cards packed tightly to the front. They can be used as a drawer divider.

I print the labels on card stock, cut them to size and they slide in place. You can see the end of the Locking Pliers label sticking out a little.

The rods that used to hold the cards from being stolen pulled out of the front easily. I've used them for several projects.

You might be able to still find these at state surplus stores or college or school-system surplus sales. In the original photo you see the two side-by-side units I got from state surplus for $35 each.

Long time lurker, figured I should start off on the right foot by posting pictures of something. ;) I don't wrench for a living, just on my toys (boat, quads, dirt bikes, Harley, etc.)

Work in progress... Taco cart KR-562E and a Mac MB910 top. Bought these as a used set for $500 a couple months ago to replace an outgrown Craftsman 3 box stack.

What is the tool to the right with the blow mold and different sized pieces? I was thinking a tool to put seals in, but why the bent rod? :headscrat

here is my humble entry

I'm an aspiring 24 year old home mechanic, not an expert by any means, i learn as i go.

I have a question about this box, does anyone know where i could get a front door for this thing?

My dad "acquired" this box ( tk 100? ) from the air force. I'm not sure if he got it from DRMO, or the supply guys just wrote it off, but he's had it longer than I've been alive ( not that long ). I don't think I'll ever get rid of this box, my dad tried to teach me wrenching at a young age, but it seemed like he was deployed or on TDY more often then he was home. One of my fondest memories of young age was when i was helping my dad do something under a rusty BMW in Germany, and he asked me to help with my small hands because his didn't fit.

I have lots of inexpensive tools, as until recently have not had a good paying job, or an appreciation for the finer tools.

The colored HF sockets i've lost a few, and replaced the missing ones with brand new craftsman ( made in USA! bought on June 29th! ) and you can see a wright 10mm wrench and a 12mm mac

I know this pales in comparison to the other boxes in this thread, some day i'll get there :)
