My first Official Tool Box (I'm 19) Most of the sockets are Mac And Matco impacts

Screwdrivers are all craftsman USA (and I believe every size they make other then lengths that won't fit in the box)

Pliers are a work in progress, I scored the Channel lock gl10s for 4 dollars at TS. And I bought the 420/426 as a set for 9.99

This Christmas the number one thing on my list is either the set of 4 gear wrench swiveling ratchets or some mac/snap on ratchets just so I don't keep snapping the ones I have....

Trade you some snap on stuff for those sockets you got there.

Drill, cleco's, steel rules, 0 to 1" outside mic, a few different styles of inspection mirrors, a good flashlight, good headlamp,

Lots more or less depending on what type of aviation you end up in.

If anyone hears of a used hutch for sale that will fit a KRL7023 let me know.
I have been looking for a while and can't seem to find any and I am not spending $4500 for a BN one

A set of 12pt 1/4 drive flex sockets. A set of angle open end wrenches 30/60 SO's are the best.

I disagree here... In GA I have never found a reason to buy flex sockets other than the vanity of having them. The cost of a good set offsets the value so drastically that they are a luxury rather than a necessity. Of course that is in small ga from c 150's to twins and no turbines so ymmv. I want a set, but I think my snap on 1/4 drive pass through sockets are much more of a necessity than flex sockets.

Angle wrenches.... My boss and coworker have snappy I have matco, I find them reaching for my matco's an awful lot. But being in a small shop if my angle won't do it I grab one of their snappy's and vis versa, although I'm never the one reaching....

Finally finished reorganizing my socket drawer. Ditched the bulky Hansen trays for the plastic rails. I used husky branded ones from home Depot and craftsman branded ones. These two are not the same design. The husky ones are a but nicer but the craftsman 3 pack is a killer deal. I would've loved to have done the entire box in VIM Magrails but that would've cost a couple grand lol. I had planned on using a bit of VHB tape on the bottoms of these rails if they didn't stay in place but they are packed in tight enough that they don't move. Lining them up this direction helps too, if I would've went the other way they would all want to tip over. I'm happy I don't have to stick them down, makes it easier to change it up in the future if I add some more. I know I'm not done buying sockets yet.

I replace the snap on drawer liners with pig mats blue adhesive backed pad. Works much better than the snap on ones. The adhesive backing keep its stuck down, no scrunched up liners. Plus it absorbs any little bit of liquid that may seep out of something. Not to mention a roll of the stuff isn't too expensive. You do have to trim it yourself though.

I consolidated my sockets from three different drawers to make room elsewhere in my box for other tools. It's nice having them in one drawer too. Ditched all the bulky organizers. I like these plastic rails. They hold the sockets very well. Sure the Hansen tray was nice for fast socket id, but after enough time you get a feel for where each socket is at. Even if you pull a 15 and wanted the 17,you put the 15 back and know that the 17 is two sockets over. Not a big deal in my book. Plus I don't have to look at those empty spaces anymore.

Here's the before pictures. I noticed I had already started taking stuff out of the drawer in the one picture. The 1/2 SAE sockets are missing.

And here's the after picture. You'll notice I added a lot of other sockets also since the before pictures were taken. Left side of drawer is metric right side is SAE.

Since I couldn't stand the long bits up I used mag rails and stuck them to the side then stacked them on each other. I put the XZN at the bottom and left them on a plastic rail as I use them the least and metric hex on top since they get used the most. Seems to work good.

First post here but this feels appropriate as I found the forum while searching for tool box reviews.

this past Friday I finally bought a real tool box and was able to ditch the plastic boxes (3 of them) and old, beat up 3-drawer Craftsman box I've been storing my tools in. Thanks to this forum I purchased a 44" harbor freight box. Despite my general distaste for HF, I couldn't pass up the value this box offered and the reviews here are too good to look past.

I started filling it Saturday and realized that the box alone wouldn't be enough so I went back and bought the 18" add-on side cabinet as well as some socket organizers. I'm quite pleased with the apparent quality of it all and hope it holds up in the years to come.

I'm not a professional mechanic just an enthusiast so most of my tools are Kobalt or Northern as they offer the quality I need at a price I can cope with. Most of these were bought as I needed them and I definitely expect my collection to grow with my projects, but at 25 I think I'm on my way to a nice tool collection.

And a few more....

I also have an old Kennedy box from my grandfather on top of this stack, currently holding some odds and ends I didn't have a place for.

Thats a nice collection you have started. It's amazing how fast they can grow especially once you have the space. I started out with an HF roller with locker top box and side box. I intended to use it for a few years but found a killer deal on my current box a lot sooner than expected. I didnt have any complaints about the HF aside from the 18" depth. To me it's still the best value out there. Not many other box's I would consider at that price point.

As you saw, lots of guys have had theirs for awhile and have been very happy with them. The guy I sold mine too is still plenty happy with it. I don't think you have to be worries about it holding up well for 5+ years of hobby use.

What brand are those wrenches with the blue stripe? Never noticed any like that before.

I have a few minor gripes with the box but for the money I'm very happy. Unfortunately what I wanted, what I needed, and what I could afford clashed horribly and I managed to get 2.5/3 of those with this setup.

As already mentioned they're Kobalt wrenches. Metrics are marked in blue, SAE in red. Since all of my hobby work has focused around Japanese cars to this point I haven't had the need to pick up any SAE tools.

Still looking at organizers for the box too, probably grabbing a plyworx rail for the pliers drawer and I'd like better wrench rails to consolidate the wrenches as well.

Can you post some pics of that one too?

I'll get some tonight. It's quite old, unmarked (as far as I can see), and was well used by my grandfather who spent 40+ years working at a screw machine shop. Despite missing its badges it is very clearly a Kennedy though, and it's the one box that I planned to keep for sentimental value if nothing else.
