This week was a seriously lucky week for me, and probably the end of me being able to say "I never luck into cool stuff." When I found a pair of Stanley Vidmar cabinets available for small money, I almost squealed like a little girl. After the use of three trucks of various configurations, a pallet jack, and my father in law, they came home:



There's a blue 10-drawer and a green 11-drawer. The green one seems like it was older, and all the roller bearings were very tight. So I went over each of the ones I could get to and forced in some NAPA Sil-Glyde. That freed them up nicely without making a huge mess of everything.

Both were nice and clean and rust free. They both lived indoors in engineering labs, full of various tiny electronic components. Which brings me to what was in the cabinets. They came with a whole bunch of little dividers and bins - dozens of them. All together there are 218 little plastic bins of various sizes, most of them from Stanley Vidmar and made to fit. Oddly, 19 of them are Lista bins.

The Lista bins don't quite fit in there right, but will probably still be pretty handy.

The big day included a Kuwaunee Sturdilite powered lab bench, too. That was a real ordeal to get moved as well, but I think it'll be worthwhile.

EDIT: This is a brand new house. They ended up where they did because that part of the garage is wider than the rest of the room, so it made for a nice little cave to tuck them into. I'd like to make or find a small table, or something else useful, to go between them and below the breaker panel. The workbench went dead center on the front wall, for lack of a better place for it to go.

EDIT 2: If anyone has suggestions for "best practices" in how to utilize cabinets like this to the fullest, I'd love to find a thread about that. I'm upgrading from a 12 year old set of Craftsman non-ball-bearing cabinets.

The top does not lift up, that would be nice. It's 54" long. KRL722

I hated mine. I have the blue/black 40" Euro-style.

Why? Lots of drawers but none of them holds much tools (I have about as many wrenches as you do and it took you 8 drawers to store them all!). Great cabinet for small parts though!

Yeah (there's a lot of wrenchs tho) and some drawers are not quite full just yet.
Also,tool boxes/tool chest are like peg boards,you gotta reorganize them 100 times to maximum real estate and that's what I'll have to do once more tools get purchased.

I looked at the black 52" Husky chest as well,it was a lot cheaper,but was too flimsy for me and they stopped making the top part (or at least stopped supplying the top part in Canada)

Sooo, I think I have been here for a while now and I've never really posted any picture of my toolbox...
I'll start with the one at work; on another post I'll cover the ones at home!

I am an aircraft maintenance engineer and this is what im working out of, on day to day basis. It is still a work in progress, still a couple of foam layout and cut-out to be done, also a couple of tools to be added to the collection...

Same here.. Just bought a pair of these base cabs over Christmas. They are pretty solid and seem like good value at $700 each. More than enough for me at home. I picked up swivel casters to replace the rigid ones so I can move them straight out from the wall since everything is packed tight side to side with no handle.
Will do the drawer pics when there is actually something in there. All in i have about 100 square feet of drawers to fill here.

Nice setup. You don't see too many Proto tool boxes these days. My older brother has one from when he wrenched for a trucking company but that was way back when Proto had tool trucks that came to your shop.
