Got my first ever tool box today! Already want something better, but for only $50, I can't complain :D. Still have to actually organize the sockets, but for now everything is at least in the drawer I want.

Hey, that's a great little set up!

There is a lot to be said for keeping it simple.

You just keep him by it to stop people borrowing tools, he looks like he could lick em to death.

After switching jobs a few years back I figured out I didn't need near as mant tools at work for my new position so I switched my home and work tool sets around and brought my Snap on "home". Well after about a year and a half of working out of a 26" (70s era) Craftsman combo and the 4 Drawer HF cart at work, I decided I needed something a little larger again. No I wasn't smart enough to switch the sets back around, it made far more sense to spend some more money! I was looking at the 56"ish boxes from the lesser known brands, but then a MAC MB1500 popped up on craigslist for $600. Not a steal since it had no lock and every drawer fell open on their own and a couple out completely since the slides were trashed, but I picked it up anyway. I showed it a little love to end up with a bit of a rat rod box.

Stands out a bit in the engine lab at work. lol

Rest of the details and before pics are here http://mostdesigns.com/baas/blog/?p=14234 if anyone is curious.

The drawer liner was included with the box, it is the best type I've used. It is fluid resistant, padded, doesn't nick easily and very grippy on both sides.

The piece on top of my box has been there for 2 years and has had hot parts dropped on it, hydraulic oil, fuel and solvent spilled on it. The one thing they absolutely do not tolerate is having tape stuck to them and then peeled off, it rips the top covering off.

You work on airplanes and don't need to have your tools shadowed?

I've been flying since 1998, professionally since 2004. I've never seen a mechanic's toolbox shadowed, and I've seen dozens of KRLs. This includes a university, two private jet operators, and an MRO station.

Guess I was under the wrong impression. I thought I heard or read somewhere that airplane mechanics had to use shadowed boxes or a specific inventory system.

I doubt you would say that if you flew military or commercial airlines...

Our engine and components facility supplied Bluepoint 26" bottom roll cabs to the techs, fully equipped with whatever you needed at each area. Every drawer shadowed. Tool control or "FOD" control (aerosexuals love making up acronyms...) was taken seriously as we were working on turbines and sealed components.

At the hangar though, where I mostly worked, it was mostly old school craftsman and smaller roll cabs. Hardly any Snap-On boxes, and the one guy who had one got razzed to no end for being the guy who way overpaid on his tool box. Management tried to implement shadowed boxes in the shop but wouldn't foot the bill for the materials or time to shadow. Not to mention it just isn't practical for our stuffed boxes, we all would pretty much need new tool boxes and our tools would still need to be "lean initiative'd" out.

Holy **** am I glad to be out of aviation, now I make twice as much and enjoy my job way more working on equipment.

Any who enough of me blabbing, I finally bought my first big boy tool box!

Unfortunately, it's not staying simple! Every week it seems, I'm adding more and more!

hahaha, this isn't far from the truth! Given the chance, He'd probably try to lick me to death first, though.

IMHO, your price is way out of line. The black repaint outside only really hurts it.

That may be the local going rate? Being from NJ myself, I've stopped looking at craigslist entirely. I was looking for a Snap On KRL, but after about two years of never seeing one in decent shape for less than about 80% of retail, I gave up. My dealer will sell me a new unit for considerably less than 90% of the used Snap On boxes on craigslist in/near NJ.

Yeah, I've been hearing as much from some other people. A couple years ago, I turned down a $5K offer on it, and I'm kinda kicking myself for it. :/ Probably never get that again.

Was the person really serious? People can say they will give you xxyy, but until the money changes hands..... I see maybe ~$1500 in boxes there and maybe (stretch) $1500 in tools. Not trying to insult you, just what I have seen.

No offense taken, at least if someone offers me something like that, I'll understand why. After investing so much over the last ten years, it kinda hurts to see the loss in value, that's all. (I already sold off a bunch of stuff, like a lap scope, snap-on vantage pro, fluke meter set, mongoose dlc3 adaptor, and stuff like that.)

I love the color. Of that box!!!

My cart kind of proves that. Lol. My old cart is identical to yours down to the color.

I loved it but it was time to upgrade to something a little heavier duty with a lifetime warranty. Good little cart though I'm still debating what I'm going to do with it. Probably end up in my garage before too long.

Thanks, I wasn't sure what I would get. Originally I was hoping to be moved in to the box before hand so I could have the drawers labeled, but that was the extent of the ideas I had for it. I never imagined he would go that crazy when I told him there were no guidelines. lol

You could always use the magnetic drawer labels, won't even hurt your pinstripe.

I didn't need them labeled to remember where stuff was, I just thought it would look cool. :lol_hitti

I actually set the drawers up as close as possible to my Snap on to help me adjust quicker to this box. If you aren't familiar with the MB1500 the drawers in stock configuration just go small to large in the main bank. These were already re-arranged from a previous owner, and screwed me a couple times because I worked from the top down and had to re-remove drawers several times to install new slides to get something that I thought would work for me. So far so good, Really would have liked the full size at the top, but what can you do.

Thanks.. I love the matco cart but I'm downgrading.. It's too big and heavy to use as a service cart. And our shop is full of techs now so Im pretty stationary

I bought this little cart a year ago brand new and it served me well. I grew out of it quickly though.

A coworker was trading in his KRSC46 for a new box so I traded in. The difference in quality is huge. I have a lot more space now, I'm very happy and the price was great.
