Do not put files in cardboard boxes cardboard hols moisture and will kill the files faster than incidental hits against the box. Your storage of you files is just fine do not others tell you other wise. I have twice as many in a draw 1/ 4 the size as long as they are not clanging around from movement they will out last you.

Diesel_Crawler, go to Costco and get you some cardboard trays to keep your files in. Seeing them lay so close to the side of the drawer is making me cringe. This tray here is a CoffeeMate tray.

How does putting them in a slipery cardboard box make them "Clang" together less? The lines that came with the box are super nice nothing moves a 1mm even when i was pushing the box around. Were it is right now is were it stays, the only thing moving is the drawer in and out and there super smooth!

I'm hoping you guys dont flame me, but I'm posting these pics of my initial xfer of "tools" into my KRL1022. Not being a professional mechanic, and being cheap and frugal I never went with ALL SnapOn or MAC.

This is my lifetime hodge podge collection. I laid the Snap-On Rachets on top just so you see. I also have 12 pt std SnapOn combo wrenches. Are not 6pt going to be better for my newly plated Camaro bolts (show car restoration)

People who would "Flame you" over showing us your tools are idiots and have not right to say anything or be taken seriously. we are all people with a mutual Interest each of us having out own to share and we can all learn alot from each other.

You have lots of nice tools there, there work well for you Glad you shared with us!!!

As for holding your sockets, I just could not like the Henson socket trays i ordered myself enough of these to replace all my socket rails.

Some of those files are 10+ years old and still going strong! I don't get how putting them in a cardboard box is going to help them from sliding around yet still

Come on Merk, if you cant drop it on the floor or scratch the inside of the box it isn't worth having.
Just like what I did with my F80 when I bought it. I dropped it on the floor to scratch the handle. At least I know where the first scratch came from.

And what do I see on the SO truck today, but a brand spanking new KRL1022. Candy apple red, not my favorite color , but he made me an offer I couldnt refuse. Lets just say it invoved a $4,000 trade in on a box I spent $2,000 on, and $1,000 off list from the get go. I caved.

Seems to be alot of those "good deals" on the truck. I got 1500$ off mine plus i pay no Interest over the 4 years i financed it. saved me around another 4500$ with 0% on it

Also I can't wait for the pictures! i have never seen a Candy apple red before!

Ill be paying less then $1000 over my 3 years according to the math, but Ill be paying more then I have to each week.

The candy apple is just a darker red. Not as much orange in it I believe?

When it was all said and done, I walked away with the box for about $2,800, and added my $400 truck bill into so Id only have to make 1 payment.

Man, there have been lots of SO box purcases lately. Here is another one I bought my KRL1023APCM today. Upgraded from a 5 drawer craftsman top box, I aslo was using a few drawers in a Husky top and bottom. Plus tools were randomly scattered throughout my shop/truck/home. I love this box I will post pics a soon as I have a free minute.

I dont have a close up pic. Ill be back at work on Tuesday, so nothing until then.

Its this Snap-on hanger.

I used a piece of double sided tape/foam (not sure what its called, but we put it on new trucks to help with rubbing problems) to secure it to the middle, and protect the finish.

And just for the record, its a Lisle creeper with a MAC sticker on it.

Should work perfect. I put the 2 rods in the center and hang it by the bottom, but some guys at my shop will put them at the far edges and hang the creeper by the middle grab handles. It works, but you have to force the creeper onto the hooks.

Some of my junk tools need to "go away" and I'll be doing that. I'm just looking for good suggestions on socket holders (HANSEN?) more or different wrench holders.

Also thinking about box end (both end) gear wrenches or ???

If you are looking for socket holders you may want to try the lock a socket trays. I bought mine through Matco but I think everyone sells them. The thing I like is I can customize sizes and take all the sockets to the job. The pictures I have are bad but it does show they will hold upside down. I have a couple of these so I can keep metric and SAE seperate.

I'm not sure who makes them for Matco but I have seen them on the S-O truck also. It is five rows, I believe they come 2 1/2" 2 3/8" and 1 1/4" I set mine up for 1 1/4" row 3 3/8" row and 1 1/2" row. When you put the socket on you give it a quarter turn to lock it. If I remember right I paid around $55.00 for mine.

This is actually one of my very first posts here, I'm an apprentice tech, 2nd and last year in school, studying Auto Technology.
I live in an apartment and operate completely mobile, doing repairs/maintenance at the parking lot, my friend's driveways, including roadside assistance!

I have two 3-drawer tool chests, one is Homak Professional, $50 at amazon, the best tool chest ever. The other one is Craftsman Rally box, got it from craigslist from an older gentleman, finally husky tool carrier, again from craigslist... And also I have several walmart buckets for oil/trans fluid changes, also use them to carry various spray cans to the jobsite...

Here's top section of the main chest, pliers, screwdrivers, bits, driver, pick-up tools, mini-files, finger bit drivers...


first drawer, craftsman 12pt raised panel wrenches, flare nut, adjustables, ratcheting...


second drawer, 3/8 metric regular/long sockets, standard regular sockets, various extensions, palm ratchets, finger driver, also treadlocks, sealant and anti-seize


bottom drawer, 1/4 set, mini pliers, pens/marking stuff, hex keys, electrical tape, silicone self-fusing tape. (I honestly stopped using zipties under the hood, silicone tape is much more durable and clean looking)


Here's the secondary chest upper area, tweezers, gearwrench xl pliers, gearwrench T-handle driver, micrometer, caliper, butane soldering iron, cable stripper etc...


first drawer, trim removal tools, jb welder (!), electrical bits and connectors


second drawer, oil change, radiator and trans fluid change tools. I refuse to work on any cooling system without the constant tension clamp pliers!

bottom drawer, not commonly used wrenches, craftsman metric 6-pt (used as striker wrenches), metric offset double box, large sized ratcheting and S-type wrenches, also standart hex driver bits.


also my service tool carrier, hammers, gloves, fluke meter, re-threading kit, dremel kit, mini grease gun, sanding sponges and 1-minute gasket maker (that stuff is good!)


finally step stools used as kneeling assists or stands for the chests, bucket, clear pvc tubing, brake cleaners, penetrants...

I cant paint worth **** so the paint is getting farmed out. The first box is my top chest. I cant recall the type. Hopefully when it is sanded down the model number will reveal itself.

When she is all done I will take a pic of it with the tools in her too.

Thats not it, mine has plastic 1/4 turn posts, not metal clips. I would like to find the OEM though because I could probably get it cheaper. I would like to have one each for SAE impact and metric. I would get Hanson trays but my 1/2" SAE impact set goes from 3/8 to 1 1/2" and I haven't found a tray that will hold that many.

Retired my 35+ year old Craftsman, gray with red sliders and sold my 20+ year old Craftsman, red with dark gray sliders.

Found this mint vintage 1984 Snap-On set, KR527, KR537, KR547, and KR557 plus side fold away tool tray for $750 on CL.

A retired Honda cycle mechanic kept it spotless.
