Love the look of each of them. Somewhere down the line I want to trade my Classic 96 in for a 68" Epiq with a similar drawer layout to your blue one, minus the power cabinet.

dealer told me yesterday, that cranberry is no more, guess its with teal, and green mica now. Seems like cranberry and teal, maybe black were the new colors back in the day. It seems early black ones were Earnhardt or intimidator. I almost bought a teal one in 1995, thought it looked really sharp!

"Youngin' Toolbox"

This is my Husky 27" 16 drawer tool chest

I got it for Christmas of 2014, I also have included some pictures of me and my fathers shop. I'm 18 years old from Michigan, senior in high school and love, love, love vehicles, tools, engines, anything that goes, or wants to. I play Soccer and Baseball at a very high level, (committed Division 1 for soccer) so I don't have as much time as I would like, but I spend as much time as I can out here.

My box mainly consists of Harbor freight, Tekton, snap-on, Husky, Eastwood (screwdrivers), gear wrench (ratcheting wrenches) and (bit driver set), Channel Lock, cresent, Pittsburgh and Irwin (pliers), Craftsman USA, and Pittsburgh wrenches on the wall (combination wrenches), HF hammers, chisels, punches, saws, calipers, squares, electrical tools, most odds and ends you get the idea. I'm not a professional, so I don't need the most expensive stuff nor do I have the money for that stuff, but I'm always upgrading the best I can! (There are a few tools out of the box right now because I'm working on a small weed whacker engine rebuild).

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy, I know it's not like most of the boxes or shops up here, but I take pride in it, and make do with it as best I can.

My dads box is craftsman USA from the late 70s early 80s, he raced Can-Am cars professionally, and kept one of the teams boxes, and shop equipment (parts washer, drill press, band saw etc.)

his pride and joy is behind his box, (2001 BMW M5 limited edition blue) don't let him catch you touching it:).

We don't have sufficient power to the garage to run a MIG or Stick welder, but we do have an old Nickel Bronze welder we use from time to time.

I hope you guys enjoy, I love seeing all your posts!

Looks like you're off to a good start & good to see someone your age interested in building a good set.

I worked out of my dad's Craftsman box (a ball bearing workcenter) liked his so much, I bought my own. Now I have two CM professional series chests.

Be careful, tools are a disease, one that's very good to catch.

And welcome to the forum.

Good question David W!

I got to thinking why it seems every toolbox-portable, chest, and cabinet, are always steel. I guess it is mostly so the metal drawers can flex when weighed down. I think aluminum is more rigid and will fracture before it flexes or bends. But maybe we can hear what the builder has to say about it.

My Montezuma box was made in Aluminum. It weighs 41 pounds empty.
The material is thicker than the steel version. It is used as my track box.

Cost: Steel is a LOT cheaper to buy for the purpose, and usually, the extra weight isn't a factor. (Look at scrap prices per lb. for an idea on the difference...)

Flexibility of the aluminum depends on grade, temper and thickness, 6061 T6 is very rigid, and machines well. 5052-H32 bends well, welds reasonably machines closer to bubble gum. 5086 welds very well, but is really like bubble gum to machine...) However, put 6061-T6 in a high vibration environment and it stress cracks easily in sheet form and tends to form cracks at bends when folded sharply. (It also has a "grain" so you get some weird goings on when bending it into boxes),

Moreover, you really don't want the metal of a tool box flexing too much; many new inexpensive boxes use VERY thin steel and the bottoms oil-can and won't carry much weight (25 lbs in some cases, compared to 400 for Lista/Vidmar (in larger drawers) and IIR 200 in a Snap-on box?

Thanks! Yeah, the majority of my xmas presents for the past 3-4 years have consisted of tools, plus most of my spending money goes towards what I need in the shop!

Started collecting tools beginning of last year and keep growing to what I have now and still more I would like to purchase. I stared buying them after I got my jeep and began working on it. Then I started working on other people's cars and such. I tend to work on a many of different things from metal projects like making a roof rack, a lot of car stereos and sub boxes, matienance things, lift kits... Whatever comes up It started with a craftsman tool set of sockets and ratcheting wrenches grew from there. 225fdbff3a5a93659a65b87c6c9f8bdf.jpg b218a6aa0be22188c28d1a1a89ef938d.jpg collection of sockets mostly craftsman with some harbor freight959d63eabd1c524513172cb7cafaa97f.jpg papers and pencils hex tools and ratchets. Bought the harbor freight ones due to being more fine tooth.3b278c87e48a7acd89fcf3426a86d8f0.jpg wrenches all craftsman, gasket scrapers and pry bars.
