Glad to see you found what you wanted and saved some coin in the process. I knew I had a problem with eBay when I had 14 different 14mm combo wrenches. Mind you two of those were in a roadside kit...... in the back of my Chevy.

Another eBay purchase arrived. The tray wouldn't fit in the drawer (too tall) so I needed to rearrange a bit. I really need some wrench holders to figure out how I want to do this.

New wrenches are in the lower right hand corner. I'm finding the current lack of order a bit disturbing.

This box protects my tools better than any fancy box ever could:

Any guesses why I say that ? Hint, I have a four year old and a two year old helping me whenever I'm in the shop.

You've been busy wrench shopping on Ebay lately!! Hey I know others have mentioned the Ernst Racks for your wrench drawer but I wanted to add that not all Ernst dealers carry the whole product line. When I ordered mine I noticed that on their own site they offer a rack for almost every size wrench set. With a little planning you can really customize your layout. Check out how many sets I was able to fit in one 2" KRL Drawer.

Thank you for the picture, Chris! I have a KRL1001 so that gives me a really good idea of what I could accomplish. Not sure when I'm going to pull the trigger on the racks or which style. I'm never done with wrenches (just can't say no), so that might have some bearing.

Similar story here with my kids. I give them each an extended pickup magnet or a flexible grab tool and a box full of nuts and they go "fishing". Other times it's just a few junk wrenches or screwdrivers and they "fix" their ride on toys. But I truly enjoy having them in the garage with me.

Yeah, I told the four year old that it's not a toy box, and everything needs to be returned when he is done. If I find one laying around he looses it for a while. He does look at my polished wrenches and wonder why his don't look the same.

So far he is pretty good, I haven't found much laying around. It's amazing that he has a favorite pliers and screwdriver in that bunch. There must be 3 or 4 pliers and many screwdrivers, but he always looks for that certain one.

Must be inborn.

Nice clean looking set, brand new? I had a coworker years ago who had the same height problem with the trays, he got pissed and cut the center section out since it was the sides that made them not fit. Are you looking to keep them more horizontal or maybe vertical? I saw Ernst has those no-slip more horizontal rails as well as a ton of the more vertical setups.

A pic of my old Craftsman roller setup before my OCD kicked in about the stacking wrenches in the back.

Thanks. They were used. It looks like someone put them away and didn't touch them for a while because they had some surface corrosion on them. A little WD-40 and some fine steel wool fixed 99% of it. I scored them for a killer deal so I couldn't pass it up.

I'm not 100% sure on which wrench racks yet. I have some of those Snap-on looped tool holders and they are great for space but since it is vertical you can't see which wrench you're grabbing. I think I would like them to lay at a slight angle so I can read the sizes.

Hi there.

Been looking down here for quite some time, now i'm needing advice so let's begin with the first post!

Little presentation, first bare with me for my so-so english, which is my second langage. I live in Quebec, Canada. 29 yo, former "mechanical engineering technician" whose equivalent could be a mix of a CNC machinist/setup/programmer with some engineering/design/CAD. I've also been a CNC technician for few times. Been working in a garage for about 12 years as a part-time job when I got my first car to change tires (fall/spring) but after the years could do a lot more. At that time I was using the owner's tool since no place and no need to bring mine. I went back to school to become a police officer (yeah, not so related).

Sooo for now I rent an apartment and no place to have my tools with me. My tool chest sits in my father's garage, with my 2 other brother's toolboxes.

IMG_1707_zpsorghfq89.jpg

Mine is the one at the end, a Costco "Mechanic's edge". Not a big deal, but for know it's doing the job. It's a little messy, but with all the pics i've seen here i got a few examples and tips so I started to do a little cleanup. I'm happy now I will have some space to add tools in it over time.

IMG_1708_zpsbkbchg5u.jpg

First drawer, which I did the "foam cutting" today so now the tools are not going everywhere anymore.
IMG_1719_zpsynskm2ze.jpg

First right drawer, used a plates dryer as i've seen somehere. Not sure I like that a lot, but for now it's okay.
IMG_1709_zpskqwws4zn.jpg

Screwdrivers... I plan on building a hutch, since I can't get a bigger tool chest for now (no space and no money for that right now). I would hang them on the wall instead of that messy setup.
IMG_1710_zpsfjsc4xdy.jpg

Misc drawer, multimeter, electrical stuff..
IMG_1711_zpsjksepomz.jpg

Chainsaw parts/paint gun and misc... I really don't like that one, again in the hutch I would put a box for those items to be more cleanly organised..
IMG_1716_zpswwfdgxhw.jpg

Last one for the right. Autel OBD2 tool, drills, taps.
IMG_1717_zpsrujhdsw4.jpg

First left, allen keys
IMG_1713_zpsfaft8jjp.jpg

Second one: specialty sockets (phillips, allen, torx), extractor set, caliper, compression tester...
IMG_1712_zpsyfibnafy.jpg

Third: Keys, lots of the same ones... Can't figure what to do with that.
IMG_1714_zpsm1sppswr.jpg

Fourth: Air tools. Any idea of how to make them stay like that.. Fixture or something?
IMG_1715_zpsvgga0nvg.jpg

Last one: Shop manual for small engines I got to work on (mostly chainsaws), and a little of everything. REALLY need a cleanup since almost everything in there sits there for nothing...
IMG_1718_zpspyhdmarn.jpg

Clearly not a shiny snap-on with all-polished tools, but for now it serves me well for what i'm doing with. Will add more tools from time to time since it's only for a hobby/when I need to.

Very nice set up and thanks for sharing, your situation is like mine, out of the parents house, but can't bring my tools with me.:willy_nil

The air tools, you can probably use a cut up wire rack to hold the impacts, like this:

Its actually not that close and they are very stable . i am not very clumsy in my shop so not to be worried about. The paint is far from perfect and 30 years old. It was my dads car . I bought it back last year after it being gone for 20 years . he passed in 96 when i was 12 and my family was forced to sell it . I tracked it down in 2011 and finally came to terms with the owner and bought i back in december of 2015. He did keep it in great shape and gave it a bit of love that it needed. I have big plans for it but thats down the road. right now its just getting a/c installed. Then its go big time

Curious is the LT1 your installing the older bbc version or the new DI engine?

The beginning of my adventure into the A&P field. This is my student box and definitely still a work in progress. I need to do a lot more organization and rearranging before I get it quite to where I would like it, but its getting there.

View media item 63935The base is a US General 72" box from Harbor Freight. I talked to a lot of people about boxes, considered going with a brand-name box, but after seeing the overall quality of the box and the fact that it was about $3000 cheaper, I decided it was my best bet for a starter box.

View media item 63936Top drawer
The start of my top drawer. Most of my sockets are on backorder from MAC, so its looking pretty empty at the moment.

View media item 63937Wrench drawer

View media item 63938Driver drawer
Nut drivers, ratchets, speed driver, breaker bar & torque wrench. Again, a few things are missing because they are on backorder.

View media item 63939Screwdriver drawer

View media item 63940Plier drawer
Crimpers, wire strippers, cutters, pliers, snips, high leverage & ratcheting cutters & safety wire pliers. This drawer is the result of what happens when an industrial electrician becomes an A&P.

View media item 63946Layout drawer

View media item 63947Allen wrenches & t-handles

View media item 63949Wrench drawer
Adjustable wrenches & ford wrenches... and I'm letting a friend store a few odds & ends in this since its the least used drawer at the moment.

View media item 63948File drawer

View media item 63950Bit drawer
Mostly drill and driver bits, a couple of cheap nut drivers and a right angle adapter.

View media item 63951Drill bit drawer

View media item 63952Hammer drawer

View media item 63953Charger drawer
This is my charger drawer for battery chargers. I am on the fence right now about whether I'm going to electrify the box so that I can charge batteries while keeping everything locked up. I know heat is a major issue so I'm VERY on the fence about it right now.

Since I haven't locked anything in, I'm storing my calipers in this drawer until I can find a better space.

View media item 63942The junk drawer
We all have one. Its just sort of a collecting place until I get things better rearranged.

View media item 63941Punches, chisels, scrapers & picks

View media item 63943Testers, leads, toner & label printer
Just a spot to store misc. electrical tools, mostly leads and such. I have a Fluke 87-V, but I keep it in a padded waterproof Vangard case so it would take up way too much room in my box.

View media item 63944The everything else drawer
Dremel, Greenlee Hydro punch, MAC tap & die set & MAC snap-ring plier set, along with hearing protection & respirator

Now, one of the benefits of going back to school.... tools are CHEAP... 50~60% off of truck brands.
I got 60% off my collection, which was pretty nice.

Here are a few pictures from me inventorying my order. Still a few items backordered, but its coming together.

Just one drawer picture for now... top drawer to come when I get it all straight. This is the right most bottom drawer. Came with an nice rack to organize some air/cordless tools!

Price wise, with a 54 inch classic series box as a trade in I took it for just under $5000... a deal I could NOT pass up!

Older sbc style LT1. This one is my dad's and it's truly a rust free Bel Aire that has all the pedigree and has been in his basement since around '84. I've added disc brakes and suspension but we didn't want to modify anything that couldn't go back to the way it was so we decided to use an LT instead of LS. I'll be sorting out the AC next as the motor is just about finished. Great story on your shoebox and best of luck with it in the future. I wanted to help my dad get his back on the road because he always put it aside as we were growing up, so like you I'm trying to do everything right.

I think those mac wrenches in that style holder are best out there ,they use space wisely and hold firmly.

I instantly fell in love with them when the tool guy showed them off and bought both sets... they are really beautiful and GREAT for organization, especially as an A&P, where inventory is crucial

Thank you very much for this pic. I have been wondering for a long time about this organizer that Snap On is now including in that large lower drawer. And to make it even better I was wondering how my Milwaukee cordless tools would fit in it!!

They fit like a glove! If you look, the holders for the tools on the far right that the heads sit in and the middle bar where the handle sits in are both adjustable. Can move the head holder up and down and the handle holder in and out.

My only complaint is I wish the drawer had power in it so I could keep the chargers down there too.

Sweet. Glad you found them as I wasn't sure where they would be on the site. Gonna keep these numbers for future reference.

Also, with the way it's setup... its entirely possible to get another organizer and put it in the bottom left most drawer and have two.
