Just bought a Matco 4s used off my Matco guy! Not too bad for a 20yo kid in tech school! Haha 588be154bf29c5a2c813797d6ed596db.jpg

Would anyone with a large KRL, say 1022 or 1023, or a 68" Epiq please measure the depth of the box from the back to the front of the drawer at full extension? I know the box is about 30" deep, and the drawers slide almost all the way out, but I'm trying to see if one will fit in a space I have in mind.

Thanks.

My KRL is 29" deep. It sits 1" off the wall. Full drawer extension it is just over 56" to the wall. b5a883d75a9c6d9357b3c129fcf5138a.jpg

Thank you very much. I knew it would be less than 60", but how much less is what I needed to know. Going to be close.

I'm sure an Epiq would be an inch or two more as I believe the deepest of those are 30" closed. I would also add though that if you only have 60" to work with you really are going to want to be able to stand in front of the box with a drawer at full extension. Full width drawers on a double bank KRL are 49" wide and would be very hard to reach all the way across from the side. On the other hand some KRL's do come in 24" depth as well. You could probably still stand in front of one at full extension. Hope this helps.

Thank you. Yes, it definitely helps. I did some rough measuring today, and I just used 60" for reference. There was still room for me to stand in front of it, but how much I'm not sure. I would imagine I wouldn't have to open the drawers to full extension all the time either.

Thanks again.

Thank you much. Sharp looking box!

I still cant decide between the KRL and the Epiq. I hate the drawer pulls on the KRL, Love the Epiq drawer pulls. Hate the Epiq drawer layouts, love the KRL 1023.

First world problems.

The Epiq comes in a lot of drawer layout options, your dealer can show them to you. Way more then the catalog shows

Yeah...you can custom order any arrangement of drawers on KRL's or Epiq boxes that fits the frame of the box. Like substitute one 6" drawer for 3 2"ers or whatever you can think of. No extra charge, either......I did it with my last KRL and my current Epiq.

There are great boxes posted on this thread, it seems like most prefer the lower and wider stance of roll cabs vs the taller stacked profile, which seems to be common on older setups.

OCD, love that top drawer. What a makeover!

How is that new green snap on socket rail set you have in the middle treating you? Was thinking of getting it for stuff that can't fit on the post style rails like you have. With the handles, will it sit high enough to get stuff under it? Like I would put my Matco 6 piece socket set under it since I want it in the top drawer but don't use it every day.

Also are your ratchet heads on your torque wrenches the industrial black type?

Thanks Jackson!! The socket rail is awesome!! I like that you can change the bases around anyway you want, works great for torx and hex sets that have 1/4 and 3/8, or even 1/2...

That's a good amount of space. Can you have it extended it that high and still close your drawer with the 1/2 inch protector sockets and stuff on it like you have? I am unfortunately away at training and my box isn't here to compare measurements.

Just got the 1/2 tech angle wrench myself. Very good... wish I got mine in black like yours.

Ever consider taking any pics of how you have that big epiq set up? I have wanted to see pics inside ever since you said you had a thing for wrenches and have about every kind even if it's a once a year use for them.

"back in the day" 36" was about the max width of a toolbox, unless you had a SO taco cart, or had multiple boxes with mid boxes and side cabs...

i had (and still have) multiple boxes

late 80's saw the 1st double bank boxes...

Added a Montezuma today. Really freed up space in my main box, going to buy some cheaper wrenches to put in this box as my snap on sets are way too big to fit on the pegs and the wrenches are kind of inconvenient to grab while it's on top of my roll cab.

Nice pictures. What brand are those 1/4" magnetic impact sockets you have? I have been thinking of getting a set of those but some of the online reviews have mentioned that the springs behind the magnets break rather easily and then the magnets fall out and there isn't really a way to easily fix them. Yours look like they have seen some real use, do you like them and have they been durable and trouble free?
No trouble with any of mine, the shallows are grey pneumatic the deeps are Matco, pretty sure you won't have any issues with grey for deeps , and they are some of my most used and favorite sockets definitely worth picking up

Would you mind measuring it if you think of it, I've been considering adding the mid box to my 4s as well. I'm 6' 2" so I think I'll be fine but it's a lot of money to spend for it to not work out haha
