Just got a new box, does everyone do sockets in the top drawer and wrenches in the second long drawer? It's a 72 inch roll cab

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

That's how I did mine. Just don't overload the top drawer or the whole thing will flip when you open it. Don't ask me how I know.

Or just make sure there is enough weight in the rest of the box to beep it on the ground. (heavier things in the backs of the drawers help.)

Not when you have 2000lbs in sockets, ratchets, bits, and extensions in one drawer at the very top. The box weighed 800lbs empty. There were two ball joint presses with close to a hundred adapters in the bottom drawers. Not to mention everything else in the box. She still came over when I pulled her open a bit hard in a hurry one day. Turns out inertia is a *****.

I just want to see pictures of 2000lbs in a top drawer, something to inspire my toolbox to be more than it is.

not 2000 lbs, but now that I added a full 3/4 drive gun / impact socket set, my top drawer feels pretty heavy, and I still have lots of room after rearranging tools....I ought to weigh everything in it for the fun it...we have a freight scale in shipping dept.....

It also helps too on the depth of your toolbox. If you just have a 18" or 24" you're more prone to tipping over than you would be in a 30"

I'm new to the forum, not sure if this is appropriate or not, but does any one have a 68 epiq with the 3 top drawer configuration? If so do you like it, or regret not having 2 more shallow drawers in the box?

Welcome to the forum. It's a good question that I have wondered about myself. If I ever upgraded from a KRL to an Epiq I would be very torn between having that 3rd long drawer or 4 smaller drawers in place of the 1.

As I understand it, when you order an Epiq you can customize drawer configuration so you could do a triple full width drawer box and still have a total of 6 2" drawers underneath by giving up a 4" drawer on each side.

Try perusing this Epiq thread and maybe ask the same question over there.....

Yes, it's a tough decision. Sometimes the deeper drawers do become a waste of space. Thank you for the advice!

My two husky tool boxes. Had the smaller one for a few years and just got the larger one. Also ordering the Milwaukee 70 workbench to go on the end and replace my basic wood workbench as well so I can order more tools. Small tool box is full and larger one is a quarter way full.
I would skip on buying tools I wanted due to no space for them.... once I get the last tool box in... I should have more than plenty hahaha

How do you like the new one? I will be looking soon. I have the same 40" you do. I have had problems with the drawers not locking and the bottom one of the top box rubs the bottom of the front. I really like the newer huskys but I'm still hung up on the problems I've had.

Alright guys, moving from a small toolbox to a 72 inch roller cab. To keep from scrolling through many pages, would some of you post screwdriver and pliers drawers ? I'm struggling a bit with those. Thanks

Lots of people asking/replying. Here's some details

SO 68" Epiq 30" deep

Top drawer. Completely full. Many tools stacked two or three deep.
2 3/4" drive impact sets
Several 1" drive sockets
6-7 1/2" drive socket sets
7-8 3/8" drive socket sets
4 1/4" drive socket sets
All the matching swivels, adapters, extensions, ratchets, and breakerbars.
A 5' long pipe of large diameter for applying torque
Torx (mostly standard plus some long and short as needed), Allen (deep standard and short), Tripple Square, Inverted Torx, and some bit drivers
6 Spark plug sockets
Plus the trays, boxes, containers, and rails to hold all that.

I've never weighed it all. Way over the rated capacity of that drawer I'm sure, plenty of slides were replaced. Perhaps not a full 2000lbs, but I'm betting it wasn't far off.

My setup is no longer like that. I added the top box a redistributed a lot of weight.

I have never put all my sockets in one drawer, Now it does not look as cool as some of the boxes on GJ but my slides seem to last longer, the second drawer is my wrenches.

Here ya go! I don't keep my screwdrivers in a drawer, I hang them on the pegboard in my hutch. 1f71758d55fceb39a1dffa554f6e9a5f.jpg2a8a16c355892d8913621fa6030bc7db.jpg

Not the top drawer, and maybe not quite 2000 pounds, but this is my 3/4" and 1" drive drawer (#6 48" drawer in a KRL1032). I think it has some weight to it. I have from 1/2" (3/4" drive) to 3-1/4" (1" drive) sockets, plus all the ratchets, drive tools, etc., plus some miscellaneous tubular and striking wrenches in this drawer. It's pretty heavy to pull in and out, but the slides are still straight and smooth, and this drawer has been loaded like this for about 10-11 years.

I didnt have any issues with my last box except running out of space.
I dont close or lock my box at all so unknown if it works still ahha.

I like the new box however, I am a little disapointed with the drawer heights. Only a few are tall enough to fit sockets into which is a bit of an annoyance. Wish they were taller.
Other than that, I have had no complaints with mine other than the initial damage that Home Depot caused when I bought it. Got a small refund on it but besides that, no other complaints.

Are your tools in custom cut acrylic?
Kind of... It's a material that comes in solid blocks. You then heat it up into a liquid, and pour it into the drawer. As it cools, you set your tools into it, and once it fully cures, it gives you a perfect cut for the tool.

I'll post some more info soon on it

Just finished my toolbox this weekend.

Started as a set of drawers taken off an old office desk that was getting scrapped...

And with a little tweaking, some cutting, and some spray paint it ended up as my tool box.

No tools in the drawers yet. Scuffed the inside for spraypaint, but I'm just going to get some drawer liners instead.

Now that's pretty darn cool. I have a couple of drawers that would benefit from that. Where did you get it and is it re-usable? Thanks.

So, the company that makes it is Evans strip coating, www.evanscoatings.com/type-ii-coatings.php

It is their B-149 material.

You can use a crock pot to heat the material up, but the company also sells a heating vat specifically designed for it. That's what I used. It comes in blocks, purchased per pound.

So you heat the blocks in he vat (or Crock-Pot)
29228bf21c0f56636f806d04cd968667.jpg

Then once it liquifies, you pour it into the drawer to about a 1/4" thickness.

73ed18e73539fefc0bc230fe8e895d02.jpg

As the material cures, you actually set your tools in, and let them sit... When it is fully cured (hardened), you can pull the tools out leaving a perfect cut out for the tool.
8f84a8278bb8e1bace2d480e1c33cffd.jpg

The material has a built in tool lubricant and is designed to only stick to itself, so it shouldn't stick to most tools.

It is somewhat expensive, but is actually comparable to higher end double colored foam. And it is reusable... So if you want to redo your drawer, you just pull it up, reheat it, and re-pour.

Hope that helps... Let me know if you need any further info

Thanks Mast, that's something I'm going to have to play with.
No problem...

A couple more pics for you of the final product...

It also works well for sockets as well... The material will form into the drive socket of the socket and create a socket holder
