Sorry, just saw the second part of your question. Long story short, I've had a ton of carts, from the typical carts similar to the red harbor freight cart, to ones I've built, to full on toolboxes. With the regular carts, I'm terrible about filling the tops and open section of the bottom with ****, and the drawers really weren't big enough for what I needed. I cobbled together a cart, and it worked ok for a while, I had a 4" vise on it, but the cart and the vise just weren't big enough. I stepped up to a 42" box and 5" vise, but ended up with it crammed so full that it was difficult to move around. Vise was still too small. So I decided to end it all and buy the pit box and 7 1/2" vise. I have the room in my shop for it, it'll save me time, more storage so I don't have to spend more money on a bigger main box for the time being. Plus it's pretty bad *** :3gears:
Definitely an awesome piece of equipment. I love it. Good luck with it.

Hey ProjectShadow. A great choice on a high value purchase for a home box. Homeboxes don't get moved so they don't need to be built like brick restrooms and cost the earth. Did the same in my new home shop, despite having the budget to buy Snap On jewelry if I chose to. Kudos for thinking "inside the box" rather than purchasing a mausoleum for your tools.

I've got a triple bay snap on with locker and hutch at work, where being constantly used is good for it, since I work nights most of my wrenching time for home is used for catching up on sleep unfortunately, I've got an 01 rm250 to rebuild and need to get mower power draw issues figured out but it's taking forever lol

Here's my tool boxes. The middle one I inherited from my grandfather and that got me interested in the grey and red craftsman boxes.

Knowing your tool box, and that it's full, I feel so sorry for you. :lol_hitti

Seriously, I agree that thing is pretty bad ***.

Here's my 46 inch Husky. Already think i need to go bigger. May just get another one when they go on sale. Not for sure how long the top drawer will hold up with all the weight in it.e2d78a10d27fbd3f33ca0338c72c450d.jpg5a1da70b3080caa523456caba3d56c31.jpg47d18e61cd57bb861ada821766fd632a.jpgeb9351bf20ecd8247b3e241c8ebdb39c.jpg

A friend of mine has been using one of those in the shop for about 2 years and I’m honestly very impressed how well it’s holding up. He doesn’t use a service cart either so that thing gets opened and closed all day long.

I bought them cheap on eBay and have never used a single one yet. I know it's not the preferred method of storage, but they are banded tight enough not to move around on one another

Hi guys, I've been lurking for a while and really enjoys seeing pics and reading stories about everybody's tools and toolboxes. So I thought for my first post I would post pics of my hodge-podge of toolboxes that I've bought over the years as my tool set has grown and share a funny story about one of them.
The first set I bought in the pictures is the black Craftsman top/bottom combination. I bought them new in 1994 when I was working as a mechanic in a local dealer, to replace a reeeeeeally old Craftsman/Proto set. About a year later, I was rolling them across the service write up area floor when the drawers came open and they tipped over. Most of the tools went flying across the floor and the noise was so loud that people came running back from the sales area because they thought a car had crashed through something. Needless to say, a couple of the drawers got bent. I went into Sears to buy a couple replacement drawers and the counter guy says, "those are professionals, they have a lifetime warranty, for any reason". I was shocked but the guy actually replaced them with the exact same ones, only new, an hour later :). To this day, I still have the cards from the original boxes, (and the new ones), that says "Full lifetime warranty. If you are unsatisfied FOR ANY REASON, return them to Sears for replacement. For shits and giggles, it would be interesting to see if Sears would replace them now. Even if they would, I wouldn't. Nothing Sears has nowadays can come even close to the quality of my old Craftsman boxes. Sad that my 23 year old Craftsman boxes are in better shape than new Crapsman boxes.........
I just moved in so my garage is pretty disorganized right now. I've been searching GJ for lighting info etc., so I've got a lot of work to do to get it right.

Nice setup. love to see more pics of your shop.

Yup. Nice!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the comments.
Since I just moved in, the rest of the shop is all disorganized, but once I get it put together I'll post pics. Right now I'm figuring out what lights I'm going to use, and what I'm going to have to do to put a two post hoist and a heater in there.
One thing I think is pretty cool is that the previous owner of this house left the vise that's sitting on one of the green tool boxes. I just thought it was a junky vise but learned from this forum that it's a Parker adjustable base Pat. 18xx. I'm going to have to wire brush the last two numbers to figure it out. Unfortunately, the retaining clip is missing. I'll have to post in the vise thread to see if someone's got an extra one for sale.

Sorry, photobucket doesn't allow hotlinking unless you give them a million dollars/pounds/euros a year. (Ok, I exaggerate a little)
This is all we see instead of each picture:

I look at that shop like I looked at women's underwear section in the J.C. Penny's catalog when I was in Jr. High. I was it and only hope to get it one day!!

Thanks for the comments guys. I really appreciate it. The shop's been a long time in my head and just came to fruition over the past year. I still have to pinch myself at times to make sure it's real.
