Question. I have a snap on KRSC43 currently among with a husky 4 drawer roll cart. I'd like to combine all my tools into one box so I was thinking about buying the harbor freight 72" and selling my snap on. Anybody have an opinion on if this is a wise move quality wise. It's my home box but gets used throughout the week. Both my current snap on and husky are full up.

Also look at Menards if you have one. The 72 Masterforce box looks absolutely amazing. I saw one in blue today. I think it is the best of the 3

Nothing specific, I was just curious as tui build quality. I honestly don't need the lifting top, but the drawer sizes and roll box size/ work surface appeal to me. Thanks for your insight, I did see the non matte finish too which I suspect is the one you're talking about?

The one you linked (matte black, same drawer layout as the one above) lift top, soft close drawers. If you want to know what the drawers are like check them out on a matte black 52" or 56" in the store they are the same type of slides.

And this one (recent release) Even though the matte black appears to be from the same line it is actually quite different. To me the drawer slide function is just OK, and the front to back drawer depth is about 3/4" less than on the other two. If I were you I would check out all the drawer specs on the website to see what you like better and then try to get hands on in the store. As far as build quality goes....... any of them are probably fine unless it is being hammered on day after day. Certainly not as heavy duty as say Extreme, or Snap On or similar. It is hard to tell anything from the steel ga. listings on the specs.

The lift top ........ I didn't really care about adjusting the height of the worktop for use. It cam down to preferring the soft close slides. The new one is listed as having soft close slides but they did not seem to function as well as the older model. But the fact is that the top cranks up pretty easily even with some weight on it and there is legitimate storage space inside. I put some rarely used items in mine. Rough guess ...... about 4" tall x 64" long x 7" wide (two sections this size).

My latest 'good deal' - I got a Snap-On KR1000A, KR1010, KR1100 for the princely sum of $2300. A very nice SO dealer replaced ~ 1/2 the slides and the 4 casters.

That's definitely not a bad deal! Looks awesome! I'm kicking myself quite a lot for my KR-557/537 purchase but it was a good learning experience. Friction slides just aren't worth the pain.

I picked up a new Series 2 Harbor Freight 56" box over the summer that was a floor model, marked 25% off. I had some major projects to tackle this summer, so I couldn't go for the full stack all at once. After I earned a little extra money, I purchased the matching top. For the price, I have no complaints. My only observation is that there is a slight color variation between the top and bottom box; the bottom is a hair darker and glossier, the top is brighter but slightly satin. With grease on everything, you'd be hard-pressed to tell. I'm not terribly fussy, all my cars are imperfect too.

As someone who absolutely loves his US made tools, I spent years looking for a good deal on a larger US made box setup on the used market. I just couldn't locate anything with this amount of volume and durability for under $1k. So I caved and bought something Chinese.

For someone like me, an amateur mechanic who works on his own cars, this was a great addition to my shop. This year, I did two engine swaps in my driveway, working out of four smaller boxes with friction slides. I consolidated nearly all of it into the 56 top and bottom, and I retained my smaller 26" Series 2 HF roller as a mobile station to hold diagnostic, specialty, and electronic tools. An absolute game changer for me in terms of organization and productivity. I'm really happy, the only downside is now some of my friends think I am a "pro" mechanic and want me to help them fix their cars. "Yeah, no."

I retired from working on the bench so I brought 2 Snapon tool boxes home. I basically have a duplicate of all my work tools at home but not snap on. For home I used Milwaukee craftsman etc. Now the snapon cart and smaller husky box in the pic is now in the basement aka man cave.
