Moving out of the old and into the new. From 4 different Craftsman boxes into a new Menards box. I still have a couple of empty drawers in the new box. Time to buy some more tools!

So I've had a KR655/650 for the last 15 to 20 years and it has been great but has been small for some time. Last week I got a deal on a KTL7023 so bought and move into it. There is a lot of room but I wanted more drawers so I could better separate my tools which led me to the Matco 6s 6328RX.

The Matco gives up about an inch in depth but more than makes up for the difference by being about 4 inches wider (76 vs 72).

The Matco came with 4 8" casters not installed, I assume the 2 middle casters are needed so I'll have to procure those.

uh yes. they sag with just the lower box when loaded up... I'd get the center support casters under there sooner than later...

Awesome collection! As I get older the mega toolbox is starting to become overrated. I'm starting to lean more towards the 26" size boxes for home. Easier to move around and cheaper. The old Craftsman boxes are/were pretty rugged and durable.

With coupon, $250+tax makes the 26" cabs a good deal. Heck, the 44" is only better to me for the wide top drawer, and of course the top space. At only 180lbs, the 26" is indeed easier to unload alone and move around.

 My dad got me started with my first starter tool set when I left home going in service and it has slowly grown over the years (much to my wife's displeasure). I finally quit asking and just went and bought what I wanted. I started watching for older boxes because I liked the look. I bought the gray box first and have continued to add to the collection. I have passed it on the the next generation, one of my sons is a Snap On dealer and his collection of tools has already passed mine.

I prefer the smaller boxes because if I need to move them they can be loaded in the back of a pickup. These large boxes a rollback truck is needed to move them.:lol_hitti

First post finally, after reading all the way thru the HF cart mod thread, and jumping into this one about halfway thru haha. So many awesome boxes and setups!

Here's my setup at work: an old Craftsman 10-drawer chest on a 5-drawer cabinet (late 70s to early 80s), a combo my dad picked up at a neighbor's garage sale for $5. Had bad cosmetic damage on the bottom of the cabinet from dog pee, so my dad repainted it, and gave it to me a few months after I started a job that I had to supply my own tools. Not even close to full, as I split time between the shop and the field.

We dont have our own dedicated bays at the shop, so we use carts (provided by work) to roll stuff to the pumps we have in the shop. I keep most of my stuff on that, in a Husky bag and cases, so I can throw it all in a truck and go out on service calls.

I have the smallest box at my shop, and the only non-tool truck box, which I'm perfectly fine with, especially since this was a gift. I REALLY want the 56" Milwaukee combo at THD, but just don't have enough rools and stuff here to justify the cost, coupled with the fact that I am not a dedicated shop tech, and hate loading and unloading a bag for every call.

Here's my home setup.

Westward 42" 11-drawer top chest I saved from the scrap guy when I worked at Grainger. The back left corner of the lid and box got tweaked in shipping, so they were scrapping it. Holds most of my hand tools I kept at the house. Might try and get a similar stainless bottom cabinet to match and make it my work box. What's crazy is the closest matching bottom box (this particular SKU was discontinued a while back) is only a couple hundred less than the THD Milwaukee combo I really like.

Craftsman 4-drawer chest and 4-drawer cabinet combo I got as a housewarming gift from my mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law when we bought our first house and I didn't have any tool storage. I quickly outgrew it, and then brought my stainless Westward home. It has a bunch of random stuff that doesn't fit in the Westward, like my grinder, prybars, and the like. It will probably go to whichever kid buys their house first, with a decent tool set a home owner might need.

Thanks. I really like the drawer set up on the long box. is this at your work or in a home shop ?

Work, I don't have much of a garage where I'm living. It's on the "need" list when I buy a house. The drawer setup isn't bad, I just wish I had gotten a few that are deeper. I'll post drawer pics again sooner or later. I think you could find my old drawer pics by searching if you wanted, but a lot has changed.
