I have a smaller family compared to above ^ but I got this blue man today! He's the Homak. Got a super super good deal I won't even say because I might have people get jealous. But here it is, $125!

The quality is good, about the same as a harbor freight. But the drawer layout is obviously much much better. Also I love how deep the top is. I like the side bumpers too!

Bought this a couple of weeks ago from a pawn shop, in good shape mechanically other than sticky sliders but it had pretty dull paint that turned my shop towels red when I gave it its initial cleaning. After some research it's clear this is a common issue on this vintage of box due to the use of single stage paint without a hardener - so not wanting to tackle a re-spray I decided to go the "easy" route of vinyl wrap. Twelve hours and about a hundred bucks later it came it pretty good, solid five footer for sure. Now to fill it with some tools!

Never considered vinyl wrapping, but that looks slick. Was it one giant piece? Easy to do?

I used a single piece of vinyl for the cabinet as I wasn't too confident in my ability to hide seams - while there are some overlapping pieces of sheet metal, there is not trim on the cabinet to tuck a seam under. In retrospect, it was very difficult to get the single sheet placed correctly, partially because I chose to save $40 by ordering that piece using Vvivid instead of Avery or 3M which was much much easier to reposition prior to squeegeeing when I did the drawer fronts. Where I had to use seams as a result of some mistake I made they pretty much disappeared unless you know exactly where to look.

End result is a really good three footer, but it's obvious when you look closely that I struggled in some spots and that my trimming skills are pretty much non-existent. The Vvivid vinyl didn't want to stretch all that much without heat, but then didn't stick as well in the inside corners so I ended up with a bunch of patches there that are functional but ugly. I also have a few stubborn bubbles on one of the side panels that ended up in wrinkles that I just gave up on. Was very happy with the drawer faces once I figured out the correct trimming procedure they went on very well.

All in all, frustrations aside I'm glad I went this route instead of trying to do a down to the metal respray and worst case scenario if I have to do the cabinet again I imagine with what I've learned I could do it in a couple of hours

Considering vinyl wrapping or painting the Lista/vidmar box black to match the rest. Can't live without those deep drawers with dividers for hardware storage

Hard to tell from that angle, but I would say wrapping it should be pretty straightforward - if the cabinet opening for the drawers is set at 90 degree angles it would be very easy, if (like my MAC) the corners are rounded it gets tricky and that's where I struggled the most. Using good quality vinyl like 3M 1080 or Avery Dennison also makes it much easier.

Look up some how to videos on using cutting tape, I didn't discover that technique until it was too late and I would have approached things a lot differently had I known in advance (specifically I would not have used a single piece of vinyl for the vertical sides of the cabinet as the tape makes creating seams much easier/cleaner.)

@ZEK thanks for the information, I will look those up. How wide of role did you use?

Here is another view of the box

I used a 9ft x 5 foot piece (trimmed to 3 feet of height)for the front and sides of the cabinet. If I had known about how to use cutting tape to make seams I could have done it with a 6 by 5 piece. Since the front of your cabinet is all drawers your layout is simple, separate pieces for left, right and top (and for the back if you decide to do it) with seams hidden by where the sheets overlap. My box has a lot of cabinet face showing with lots of subtle curves, if I had to do it over again I would have had separate pieces for each side, inlays around the drawer opening plus another piece to cover the face and used cutting tape to make nice seams.

I got a side shelf (the smaller one fits perfect with existing holes In the Homak) and some tool box liner foam at harbor freight. The side shelf fits right in between the plastic bumpers. I bought 4 packs of 18x72 foam, this is much heavier and denser than the other super lightweight stuff. It's also darker and stickier.

A little tool box bling with functionality. 6" to 8" casters....not big deal in the pics but a significant difference in person. The 8" casters are quite different to the 6" and roll much easier.

Yea, its full.

Yes, they get used. I just keep my tools clean and take care of them. Just general usage. I've pulled and swapped an engine, replaced a transfer case.. pulled and replaced the head on my 4.0L.. that kind of stuff. Recently though I've been adding more new tools to my box so a decent amount of what you see has minimal use on it.

So looked for a new box for a while.

Looked at used tool truck boxes (still real expensive around here).

I liked the heavy duty (industrial) Husky, the USG at HF and the Craftsman 3000.
..
No HD near my shop. Went to HF, no boxes in stock that I wanted, so got the 54 inch Craftsman at Lowes.

Sort of a modern look, but I like it. Seems just as sturdy as the others I looked at, one full length drawer, which I really like.

Great box. Its one Waterloo is VERY VERY proud of. The box itself is powdercoated. The drawers are dip painted. Some of the welds if you can see them are hand done at the last step before washing and painting. Very well built box. <3

What a beautiful setup. I'm in Missouri also and this makes me proud. Love the "forest service green" color.

Awesome job on that wrap! The box looks night and day different! Why did you switch the logos though? Just curious...I think the box looks better with how you have them now then before.

Thanks for the compliment, I'm enjoying it very much and MAC has been awesome to work with as well as they just sent me four pairs of sliders! No good reason for the logo switch, just felt the other way looked "wrong" to my eye and it's not like I was trying to preserve some level of authenticity since I wrapped it in plastic after all :)

Finally after about 14years working in dealerships, I'm out of it and have brought my toolboxes home. The toolbox in the corner was what I kept at home, the rest was at the shop.

I have a problem with Lista tool cabinets, plus my old Kennedy top box that I've had for almost fifty years.

Where did you get the new casters at?

The dealership I work at took a direct hit from a tornado last spring. Our insurance company paid for my new box

Is that the 84”x30” ToolVault? I’m going for the 72” in the same color in the spring.

How do you like it?

Would you be willing to post some open hutch shots? I would love some organizational ideas?

Yes, it’s an 84”x30”. I couldn’t be happier with it. Really glad I went with orange. I’ll probably order at least one side locker next spring. There’s guys in my shop that have Epiqs, and Matco 6 series, I honestly think it’s built better than either of them. I know the shipping weight on mine was heavier than either of them. I’m still trying to get it organized

Did you already have a Tool Vault box before the tornado hit? I was wondering if the insurance company didn't want to pay for a Snap-on box.

No, buying the Toolvault was my choice. The insurance was willing to buy any box comparable in price and quality, including a new two bay Matco like I had before. Even though my Matco box was 20 years old. The Toolvault cost the same as a new Matco 4s two bay. The Toolvault was a much needed upgrade plus I avoided having to pay any sales tax by buying online.

4 came with the box when I bought it from the previous owner, 2 came by way of my Matco rep....Those things retail for $300 ea [emoji38]_hitti
Good god, yea I'll stick with whatever ones came on my 6s triple Bay the few times I've moved it it has rolled just fine lol. I really like that top box, mine has a hutch. I'll need more room eventually but don't know whether to add a locker or trade in on an epiq. my matco guys pretty lame, a salesman, knows little about tools, only what the catalog or whoever tells him in the company, so while I like my 6s I can get an epiq to my desire(bought the 6s used from my snap on guy lol, matco guy wanted to cry)

Thank you, JackW. This looks great! What is the one on the right second from the top?

Gives me some ideas for the future!

It's the Viking ship emblem from a Rover passenger car. I think that one is off if a P5 Rover saloon - late 1950's.
