Where'd you get that metal bench? And did it come with the casters?

Hey fellas I just wanted to share my new tool wall at work. Instead of these tools being stuffed into a stronghold cabinet I hung them up on this metal peg board we got from fastenal. 94ae06f44eaf4df2267d30b01184d874.jpg

So half of you have tool boxes and half have too chests with a worktop. Which works better? having the narrower toolbox with more tool storage or wider with a workbench but having to reach further for your tools. When I was growing up no-one had a worktop but now designing a garage that's two cars deep the tool chest with a worktop might work better.
I prefer a workbench top if you have the room. Gives you a place to set your tools and/or work on small projects.

I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do for a workbench with the limited space in my new garage. I ended up with a 41" combo and it feels like I lost space compared to the 56" worktop I had at the old place.

I might do a rolling workbench of some sort.

I was talking about co-workers...

Ahh I got ya. Well everyone has their personal tools up to 1 1/4”. And definitely keep those locked up. From there up the company provides. We do have some smaller on that peg board but with a 10 man crew we keep pretty good tabs on it. We’re a 24hr facility but maintenance is mostly days. So we keep it locked up

How can you guys keep such a messy shop??

When doing a big job I leave everything out until I’m done. No point in putting tools away just to take them all back out the next morning. Looks ******, but when the machine leaves the shop everything gets cleaned up and all is well. Until the next one shows up that is...

Where'd you get that metal bench? And did it come with the casters?

Not sure where they are from, the shop provides them.

Perfect candidate for another shelf underneath

If it was mine to mess with I would totally do that. And maybe a small tool box tucked underneath as well!

Thats what I was thinking, you need a rolling workbench if you have a top box for your toolchest.

that's only the 3rd harley single stack box I've ever seen. My brother won this one in 2003 from a 250 dollar raffle. I bought it from him in 2007 and have used it ever day at work since. People also have no idea how large of a setup this is... its about 2 and a half 26" single stacks.. here's a KRL722 double bank sitting next to mine. (I added a craigslist locker to one side and a blue half locker that I repainted in appliance epoxy to the left side.)

If I were to pare down to just one thing for shop use, I would go with a Montezuma slant top "chest" for the most commonly used tools (open the door and all the commonly used sockets, ratchets, extensions wrenches and drivers are at your fingertips) on top of a roller with a couple of drawers for other commonly used tools; ( OBD reader, DVOM, torque wrenches, etc...), as a "cart" setup, with folding side extensions on both sides of that for "staging area", one with a small vise. This to drag over to the vehicle.

I'd still have a bigger roller with many but shorter drawers for storage of less used tools. I'm still looking for the "right" 36" wide roller to do the above "Cart" setup as I want the large Montezuma...

A little wider and not Montezuma, but this is a neat setup. It looks like the side shelves slide out like drawers:

Interesting setup - getting a bit large for the "Cart" concept but for a stationary/Professional work-space, has possibilities. I don't like the two extra deep drawers on the bottom roller. Never been a fan...

I just reorganized two of my wrench drawers. I think the snap-on wrench holders seem to work the best.
