Sorry for the dumb question. If we know that these are re-branded Channellocks, why do people buy the tool truck version? Wouldn't the truck tool brand be 3x-5x the price of Channellocks? Yes, it's more convenient to exchange the broken tool when the truck comes by but for that kind of price delta, I could have 2 copies of the Channellocks and still be ahead.

You answered your own question. If you work in a shop you're going to break and/or wear out pliers. Warranty pays for itself over a career.

That’s not a dumb question. Like McFarland mentioned if you wear them out working a a shop full time it’s totally worth it.

Now in my case I don’t work in a shop or know a distributor. I just pay attention to which tools I wear out or break a lot and then upgrade when the funds are available. I generally research which tools are rebranded but sometimes you can find a great deal on eBay. Case in point- that plier set was bought on eBay- the purchaser must have never used the because they were in superb shape, just a little dirty. Got a smokin’ deal!

From their website:

NOT COVERED FOR WEAR AND TEAR, ABUSE, NEGLECT, ETC.

The tools trucks will warranty their rebrands though.

Tool trucks have an actual warranty, with no hoops to jump through. "****'s broken" recieve new pliers. When I didnt have a snap on dealer I just called the 1800 number and they drop shipped me new stuff in less than a week.

Nearly everyone else wants you to mail stuff in on your dime, wait 2-4 weeks, and hope you get another tool.
If you expect to actually warranty it, you need to buy from someone who honors warranties. Most brands with lifetime warranties dont honor them, or make it a PITA.

I made a thread on here recently about proto trying to cheat out of their warranty. I wont be buying any more of their ratchets. 100 bucks and they wont send me a rebuild kit.

Saw a KRA for sale locally and it looked rough, but the price wasn’t bad. I Went and took a look and after some negotiations I came home with it. An hour later I sold my Husky 52” for almost exactly what I paid for it a year or two ago. All said and done, this dual-bank Snap-On cost me $200.

I got to work cleaning it up and was happy to find that most of the “rust” was actually just dirt. A lot of it cleaned up nicely. I have a different model KRA 40” and had a few extra slides on hand, so I replaced a few on this new box. I still have to cut the liners for it, but overall I’m really happy.

I also have some hardwood saved up which I’ll use to make a butcher block top soon.

Sure is. 3/4 oak over two sheets of 3/4 plywood, rigid foam insulation under that, floating over my very broken up concrete pad. It was free (insurance tear out) and my attempt at getting a flat and warm floor. Demo guys cut it out in 4x7’ sections. I have details in my garage thread in my signature

Finially got my Craftsman tool cabinet in. It was on back order for 3 weeks. I left the casters off so I can still open my electric panel above the tool chest. Lined the cabinet drawers with Kobalt liner. Just about rounding out my tool box collection. Just need one more tall cabinet to replace the wooden one at the entrance to the garage.

You bet Carl. Maybe a tad on the large size for a roller, but doable. Keep in mind a big vise is taller and some rollers are tall to begin.

I have a '56 F100 that I "inherited" and has been a bit of a basket case. Body is good enough but everything mechanical and electrical needed work. Electrical is largely sorted and I have it to where it will run but I need a steering system, an entire interior, suspension and brakes need an overhaul....it's a lot. My goal is to have it drivable this year, last year I hit my goal of getting it to run with the turn of a key.

Picture below shows it when my grandfather first bought it....never worked right for him and years later it's on me to make it right. 2 year project for me so far and I'm tired of seeing it in the same spot in the garage

Couple things...

Things are always changing. I'm always buying more tools, moving stuff around and re-organizing. I'm never happy with it.

Secondly, this is my primary box. It's my "core tools" and my "good tools". Overflow, spare tools, specialty bits and sockets, automotive service tools, blow mold cases, etc. are all elsewhere... That's why you won't see any of that in these pictures. Show that stuff later.

I'm hoping to upgrade and pick up a Snap On box (new or used) with my tax return so I can better organize and consolidate things, but we'll see what happens. I've had at least 4 or 5 different tool box setups prior to what I've got now, but I've outgrown them or something else otherwise forced me to let them go. When all is said and done, I work with what I've got it.

I feel for you on this topic - Once I find an appropriate vintage bottom roller, (I need 36" width minimum) I'm getting the Montezuma slant top box. - It holds ALL the basics for wrenches, sockets, ratchets extensions, and drivers, and you don't have to deal with "which drawer is it in?" The roller wil have secondarily common tools, and the best wheels I can find for it so it rolls to the jobs easily.

The Montezuma has ONE front door, and everything is racked at your fingertips,

I'll still keep my 18 drawer Matco, double wide, but life gets easier if you aren't constantly moving drawers open and closed...

I'd absolutely love to have a Montezuma box, or your Matco box.
But I too would need something to put it on top of. I've seen them on YT mainly on the back/side of a service truck. Having all my "primary tools" in the Montezuma box and my overflow, secondary, specialty tools in the box below would be a great setup.

I don't need to move things around the garage and I'm not concerned with efficiency, but I hate drawers, drawer slides, blow mold cases, bags, containers, etc... Some things have their place, but I do my best to keep them to a minimum. I rather just open the box and have immediate more or less unrestricted access to my tools.

My first 10 drawer Craftsman Top was also my "Track Box" Not portable at all, I had to take the bottom two drawers out to move it from bench to truck bed... and back then I was stronger than average. even with 2 strong guys it wasn't really comfortable.

I later replaced it with my Kennedy 2 drawer mid and the 6 drawer top and used that... MUCH easier!

No getting around it - Steel is heavy!

Finally got all my socket organizers in. 1/4" sockets came on Tekton rails which are just rebranded Ernst rails. I ordered the Tekton branded 3/8 and 1/2 rails to keep the same color scheme and an Ernst hi-viz 3 rail tray for bit sockets. Also got a pack of clips from Ernst to add extensions, adapters, and other bits to the rails. Crazy how much these can hold.

And with that my "new" box purchase is fully explained. Below shows what I came out of with My HF 44" and side box, sockets and bits split over 2+ drawers, wrenches in 2 drawers, and what I'm in now with things finally organized how I've wanted them for years

Long time lurker, first post in the thread. Starting my vacation tomorrow so I wiped her down and snapped a pic. The setup is a double bank and a triple bank krl's pushed side-by-side. The cart really ever moves now that I've changed shops.

My main box is an ancient Snap-On base cabinet with Craftsman mid and top. I have an old Waterloo base cabinet set up by my drill press for drill bits, reamers, countersinks, taps, dies, etc. I also keep a Kennedy base cabinet up at the house garage for typical home repair tools.

Finally got around to snapping some pics. Got the tool vault combo about a year ago, just got the side locker as a gift last week. Some drawers are empty still, some are still a bit unorganized.

^ Nice setup. I like the drawers integrated into the locker. Just make sure they're closed before you swing the locker shut - my KRL has marks on the main door from drawers not being 100% flush/closed.
