Here is my work box which I guess I'm calling the Heavy Robotics Toolbox. We started a new project automating a piece of heavy equipment for a customer with deep pockets, so I made sure the project had a hefty tool budget.

DSC03587.jpg
The box is a 72" Masters Series. I prefer Lista, but our rep was desperate to sell us a box so we got a really good deal. The research facility I work for is part of a university, so we also get a substantial "educational" discount.

DSC03569.jpg
Top drawer. Full sets of just about every shallow/deep socket from 1/4 to 1/2. And a very large set of 3/4" impacts as you can see. The Mantis Tool Grid is awesome, allows for some pretty good density.

DSC03571.jpg
The wrench drawer. I could probably adjust this a little bit to be more space efficient. One thing I neglected to get was angle wrenches, I've found that they'd be useful to have on this project.

DSC03572.jpg
Fully custom screwdriver drawer. Made sketch blocks of all the drivers in Solidworks to make it easy to lay this out. Laser cut the foam, then laser cut a mdf template to use a pattern bit in the router to cut the finger grab spaces which are not full depth. Adhered to the bottom is a sheet of anodized aluminum which has the driver sizes engraved in it. Pro tip: put your chisel drivers at the front of the drawer, that way people take those first when they inevitably grab one to use as a prybar. The good flat blades in the back of the drawer stay in pristine shape. Hex keys on the right as we do a ton of socket head screws.

DSC03573.jpg
My favorite drawer. Pliers wrench is probably our most-used tool so I got a lot of them. Someday I'll make a foam organizer for the right hand drawer.

DSC03574.jpg
Not enough clamps.

DSC03577.jpg
Drill bits and poundy stuff. Deablows are Proto. Measurement drawer on the right.

DSC03578.jpg
Prybars, gear pullers, etc. 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 Tech Angle torque wrenches in the slim black boxes. Torque multiplier and snap ring pliers in the boxes on the right.

Will continue with the locker in my next post.
Very nice toolbox🎄🎄🎄🎄

0DE0CEB0-97AA-427C-971C-40F703BD42E4.jpegMy work setup. Couldn’t be happier. Everyone always comes over to look at the cart a few purchased them for home because they already had one at work. It’s the same depth as tool box. Still haven’t filled it all up yet lol.
Glad to see you finally got that. looks like you will have a very nice setup at your job .

Did you add those handles to the front or can it be ordered that way? Cool idea if you did.
If you mean the handles on the box, those are stock.

I bought black pull handles, but quickly realized, I will not be pulling this out to work on the top, so for now I will not mount them. They did not make the holes at the factory, they forgot to do it, but I like it more the way it is.

Cart at work. Not sure where half the stuff came from. The other half I've added to get to a complete basic set. I got the cart a couple of months ago and love it so far. Added some accessories and moved the side tray up to have full access to the bottom. Will add drawer liner to the shelf and some kind of rubber on the top. Picked the same cart up yesterday for home as my main box (page 122) is overflowing. I'll post that once I finish messing around with the layout.

Here's the cart at work, just waiting on a few last pieces to come in. I keep the few power tools like the 110V impact and its sockets on a self. The same goes for the volt meter and test probe etc. I just add them to the bottom when needed along with any parts I might have.

I've had my 40" and 26" Craftsman griplatch boxes for 20 years. They've gone through five moves in that time, seen lots use with home auto projects, and are still in great shape. I really like them. I keep them within the frame of a 77" wide shelving unit to create a free-standing work station:

It's been probably about 8 or 10 years since I posted pictures of my toolbox so I thought I'd post some updated/current pics of it along with a few of the drawers.

This is my 4th or 5th toolbox over the past 35 years of my career but this one will be my last and I've had it since around 2006 when I purchased it new. Snap-on KRL top, bottom and locker in traditional Snap-on red as are all of my tools, well at least all I can get in red. :bounce:

tool1.jpg

Top drawer, sockets. SAE left of center and Metric on the right.
tool2.jpg

Wrenches, same way, SAE left and Metric on the right.
tool3.jpg

Screwdrivers and misc. picks, etc.
tool4.jpg

Pliers. Most used on top, cramped drawer.:(
tool5.jpg

Unfortunately, even in this large of a box, space is at such a premium I cannot use blow-molded tray or dividers and most of my drawers have more than one layer as tools must be stacked to be able to fit. They are still easily accessible but not ideal.
tool6.jpg

Hammer and prybar drawer.
tool7.jpg

Bottom misc. or catch-all drawer. Old POS slide hammer, nitrogen gauge and hose assembly, transmission tailshaft plugs, wrenches in sizes 1-9/16" up to 2", battery cable crimping pliers, VW/Audi injector puller, Snap-on and Bahco high leverage adjustable pliers in a medium and large sizes, E-brake cable pliers as well as many other odds & ends.
tool8.jpg

One of my electrical diagnostic drawers. This one is the main electrical drawer in my main toolbox.
tool9.jpg

Torque wrenches. One not shown is my 1/2" Snap-on Tech Angle wrench that is too big for this drawer and reside under the top fold down lid.
tool10.jpg

More to follow.....

Continuing on.

Ratchets and extensions.
tool11.jpg

Misc. extensions, nut drivers and another set of screwdrivers (Blue Point). Also a couple of electrical diagnostic tools.
tool12.jpg

Snap ring pliers and Oetiker clamp pliers. Extra set of flare style crow's feet as my standard Matco crow's feet are in the socket drawer.
tool13.jpg

Punches, chisels and drifts. Things that get struck.
tool14.jpg

Hose clamp tools and accessories.
tool15.jpg

Trim tools and some cutting tools.
tool16.jpg

Body tool drawer. This drawer doesn't get opened much these days.
tool17.jpg

Drill bits.
tool18.jpg

Misc. engine tools. Cam locks, piston ring tools and connecting rod protection. Also my selection of D-Max lower radiator hose O-rings and door chime sanity tools.
tool19.jpg

My first ball-joint/U-joint kit, transmission pressure tester, GM torsion bar tool, various hones and hydraulic packing installation tools.
tool20.jpg

Stay tuned.....

Last ones, I promise.....

Automotive specialty tools. D-Max fuel injection tester, strap wrenches, chain wrenches, old version of seal drivers (plastic), flywheel holding tool, belt tension gauge, brake caliper hanging S-hooks and lower control arm leverage tool.
tool21.jpg

Motorcycle specialty drawer. Steering neck bearing removal/installation, brake caliper spreader, ratcheting wrench for suspension, VW chromoly nut socket for transaxles, valve grinding fixture for small engines, chain tool, various test indicators for 2-stroke piston measuring and Mazda cooling system pressure tester.
tool22.jpg

One of my measuring drawers. Forgot to take a picture of the main measuring drawer which is under my plier drawer.
tool23.jpg

Brake tools.
tool24.jpg

Misc. large items. One of my pinion depth setting tools and R134 gauge/manifold set.
tool25.jpg

Side locker which has most of my blow-molded cases that don't get used quite as much. Air hammer, cooling system tester with adapters, Imperial/Eastman tube flaring tool, engine compression and leak down testers, serpentine belt tools, fan clutch adapter kit and a variety of spare hole saws, braided line tools and rotary bits.
tool26.jpg

These next two pictures are not in my actual tool box but in drawers under my workbench and contain other electrical and diagnostic equipment and tools. De-pinning tool set and single channel scope.
tool27.jpg

Snap-on Modis Ultra and misc. test leads and lead adapters.
tool28.jpg

Thanks for looking.

Thanks! They are from IKEA. The melamine surface makes them really durable and easy to clean, and the included overhead lift hinges are soft-close and fully adjustable, so I used them on the top of the shelving unit.

I bought plain white ones (cheapest), sanded the exterior a bit, painted them with three coats of black enamel, then two coats of clear, and added an aluminum angle strip along the bottom of the door to act as a handle and match the look of my tool boxes.

really like this idea! Does the 77” enclosed shelving unit also include that stainless steel work top surface ? Trying to figure out how to set up something like this for my setup. Also do you have a link to the shelving unit setup? Tryin to make a defined work space.

The work surface was purchased separately, it's 72" wide and fits between the shelving ends. More information can be found in my garage build thread, here:
