My HTP 120 is no longer made. For the money and convenience it's made me money time and time again. The Dillon Henrob Pistol grip Torch boasts a 70% gas savings and really does perform as it says (www.cutslikeplasmaweldsliketig.com). I bought it for $40 in a pawnshop, it had never been used. The big blue Miller is from 1996, only had about 8 hrs on it. I haven't put more than 2 hrs on it since I bought it in 2012 for $600. The old Miller AC/DC buzz Box I just sold for $100. The DC was having issues. But weld perfect in AC. I also have a Miller 200sd but it's nothing unique. I was lucky to get it for $240. It helps to have a friend at the Local weld supply shop...

You can still buy these old guys at auctions. Bought this one for $400 It is a Lincoln Idealarc TIG-300/300. I am guessing around the early 80's. I use to repair Injection Molds, the settings goes down to around 3 amps where I can put a little dot of weld on a wore out corner in Mold Steels. Really saves on repair work. Then I can crank it up and weld 1/2 aluminum plate. I had a newer Hobart 250 but it just did not go low enough. I am stuck on TIG's and never wanted a wire machine. Being able to weld just about anything as long as you have the right filler rod's makes these welders appealing to me.

Sberry, I see the Syncrowave hiding, remember most weld shops are building stuff, I have a machine shop and most if not all my welding is on non ferrous or tool steel. I can not imagine doing a dab on a piece of tool steel let alone having all the different type of spools holding A-2, S-7, H-13, Inconel Hastelloy X or all the other filler rods I use. Last week I added some alum-bronze to the top of a pad for a wear plate,I do not think I can do that with a wire machine. If I was building steel tubing frames and repairing farm equipment then yes I would but a wire machine. I like your shop.

Kevin

Kevin;

have the same 300/300 from '76 never a hiccup, get some silicone bronze rod, you'll thank me

and I doubt they make those alloy wires in spools.......and I can just imagine what a big spool of Inconel costs:eyecrazy:

my welders;
Lincoln 300/300 TIG/stick 375Amps on the big end, 38 years young its on steel casters......it can be moved but why?

Lincoln SP-200 MIG with all the spot/stitch timers on a real commercial welding cart 8" wheels and the BIG spools of wire

both Lincolns use 330 cuft tanks

Deardorf 7.5 kva spot welder water cooled

a panel spotter, spot welder with 2 guns makes, 2 spot welds at once from 1 side:thumbup:

thin sheet, baby spot welder.....doubt it would go over 2/0.010 sheets

O/A
2 sets, 1 at Mom's Victor regs, Victor J-28 550J cutting heads, it'll cut 8" of plate

the other in my shop with wyes to the Victor and a Gas Flux and my pride and joy Purox 00:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

the best gas torch ever made, with interchangeable mixers to run different gases, no O-rings, I've been using the same one since '59

the next time you're brazing up a tube racing frame...... remember this, my Purox weighs 5.0 oz with a #2 tip the entire set with 5 tips weighs 10.8 oz.....

and no I don't use duplex hose:lol_hitti

Not a great photo, but tucked in there is my 2009 Miller XMT 350 CC/CV.

If your not familiar with it, it's an Auto-Line that handles 208-575VAC. It'll do anything from exhaust pipes to shipbuilding/railroad fabrication.

I run it along with a Suitcase Xtreme 12VS as the Miller "Portable Package" and here at the house it's linked in as part of the Miller "WCC" setup. (Not Pictured)

Up top of the far locker is another Tweco MIG gun (yellow box) that is also packed full of a bunch of spare liners and tips... I get the guns for free and they just keep coming home with me, haha.

I posted my MM210, but I did end up selling it to pick up the MM211. If I was building stuff every day or worked in a fab shop, the 210 would be the way to go. Just working out of my garage every once in a while, the 211 is much better for my needs.

Miller Passport 120/240v inverter unit (180 amp) weighs 45 lbs with no spool

Uses paintball CO2 bottles. You can hook up a tank to the back but I haven't really had the need, I do little projects. $2.99 to fill it up with the 5th one free makes it $2.39 to refill per tank. You get about 25 mins of welding off of that, just perfect for me.

I posted earlier in this thread (#8) but here is an update.

This is a pic of my Lincoln 225 on the stand I made for it.

This is my spot welder on the stand I am currently working on. Ironically if I hadn't run out of argon a few days ago it would be finished by now. Apart from final welding and paint, I still need to do a bit of work on the relay and timer that will go in the electrical box at the bottom of the stand.

This is my favorite little portable, super nice crisp arc although its starting some problems on the AC power I am not sure about. Its got some hard miles and has been painted but really has some poop for a little machine.

I'll get pics and check back later. Right now I have a Lincoln Ranger 8 (Kohler engine), Lincoln SA200 shorthood (in the process of being restored), and my grandpa's old Lincoln cracker box. Seriously though, not many shops that don't have or at one time had a Lincoln crackerbox (buzzbox, coffin, 225AC, whatever you prefer to call it) they really did put out for what they were!

I may get another battery sawzall, see a recon for 99, it would make the one I have last longer and could leave one on my truck without playing musical saws. I got 4 drills and just did a job with 2 of them. The truth be told though that I could just about slide by with one welding machine though, I do about 90% with a compact sporting 030 and I could pretty much do most the rest with it to if I had to.
I also don't care to change wheels and bits out, I work like a pit stop and need it when we need it but 90% of the grinding is done with 1/4 x 4 1/2, the rest is pretty much "problem solvers" and like air for wire wheel and specialty bits/cut off etc.

I don't have any pictures, but I have a little Lincoln 175 wire welder. I bought it because I got it cheap, it was a floor model or something like that at airgas. It does what it is suppose to, but is a major reason I think Lincolns are ****. I've never used a welder more picky about the grounds. If I don't polish the grounding surface to mirror reflective quality, forget. I want to get a miller 211, but the fact the Lincoln does the job when asked and in all reality I dont weld a hell of lot at home, I just don't do it. That may change thou. I was talking to our industrial rep at work, he quoted me a 211 cheaper then a comparable hobart:shocking:

Dan, which model do you have? They are very good, great arc and tuned perfect for 030 solid.

I run 030 with gas. Every Lincoln wire welder I have ever used, I did not like. With a Lincoln, I simply never get the the nicest looking beads. Now miller in comparison, I lay some beautiful lines. For me, Lincolns make welding work, millers make welding fun.

I am a Hobart fan but have an older T version of the red one and the taps are spot on, its only a 5 speed but I actually like it better than the HH210 which does have a little more top end poop.
If I am doing fussy work it likes the wire ball cut off for great starts. Its been a while since I ran them side by side but might give a little edge in the start dept to the Hob while the arc and wet out go to the Linc.
I got a 255 red that is nothing to write home about, its got variable and seemed to always stumble to start and actually liked the MM251 a quite a bit better, the old MM210 was a nice unit also, that could fill a one machine one wire shop pretty well.
Any of the Hobarts are good as is the current line of MM from Miller and only one doesn't make so much sense unless one was in a blazing body shop is the 212.

Got my first stick welding machine. Its an old one and heavy but works great. Gonna clean her up inside and out, change the leads and make a nice cart for it.

Somewhat current. The SP hangs out around the bench. I shaved this laypout down to the point there isn't any way any easier to do it than this.
