First 2 show my woodworking bench. 2x4 construction, only tools needed are a saw and a power screwdriver. The top is a 7' tall solid core door. All joints are glued and screwed. Total investment: $80. Should last as long as I do.

The last one is a narrow one I built for the garage, it now sports a steel top as well. Total investment including ball bearing tool boxes, $550 or so.

Had one craftsman cabinet, found another for $30 and built this workbench. Very stout and fits my space. Hoping to do this on a bigger scale with some HF 41 cabinets when I get a larger garage but this works great for now.

Shoot, most of the time I would like to be able to see my workbench! It is so cluttered that the top is hidden! Ha

I just rearrange my workbench this weekend too hopefully get a better arrangement on finding what I need when I need it :). Mine is more of a shed with a lean-to but its what I've got for my car and guitars. It's compact but does a nice job for me.

I sort of have benches all over my shop. There is the big stainless 112" x 32" main workbench, then my toolbox with a 60" x 30" stainless steel top at counter height. I then have a narrow stainless top in my paint area, and another top on my cabinet that holds my car cleaning stuff. The wood top on the car cleaning cabinet has since been replaced by another stainless steel top.

Every bench get its use, sometime for work, other times for clutter, and then other times for a place to drink a cold beer.

amcguy-I thought it was probably gauge material based on the end view. What do you have under the 12 gauge top? Wood? It looks like a welding table, and a new one at that, any problem burning the wood(if it is wood). Nice table!

Here's mine I put together a few months ago. It's the 2x4 Basics kit finished in an amber stain. The Cobra is now powder coated flat black.

cabriolet, The 10 gauge top sits on a 3/4'' sheet of MDF. The MDF sits on 2''x2''x3/16'' angle iron at the rear and sides. There are angle supports running front to back as well.

This is my current workbench. 2' by 8' by 3/4" MDF top with 2x4 platform under the top and 2x4 legs. The pegboard is attached to a 2x4 frame which is bolted to the bench top. The whole thing is held together with lag bolts for easy breakdown. WAAAAAY overengineered, but it is sturdy as hell and HEAVY.
CIMG3444.jpg

I'm planning on replacing this with a corner bench with a 7ft leg along the back wall of the garage and a 6ft leg along the left wall of the garage. There will be either slatwall or pegboard above the benchtop for tool storage/parts bins with outlets every few feet and cabinets above the tool storage.

I bought one of the 2x4 Basics kits. These things are great! Rated at 1000 lbs per shelf. $39 for the kit when on sale at Northern Tool. Build it to suit your needs.

Nice part is it is free standing. Easily moved from my previous house, to my current house.

dscn6684.jpg

I'm using this one for my Alt-Power (solar panel energy storage) bench. I've got about 600 lbs of batteries on the bench. No flex, no wobble.

dscn6687.jpg

I've got another of these kits I'll be putting together soon as a workbench. I won't put in the middle shelf, so I can store benchtop sized power equipment under the top shelf. The only permanent piece of equipment I plan on putting on the surface will be a bench vise. Otherwise, everything will be clamped when in use, and easily moved when not in use. I'll probably skin it with a 1/4" sheet of hardboard.

just sharing my bench: ( go easy, my second wood project ever )

temporarily using tape to hold 2x4's as a resting point for the bottom shelf

TQllM.jpg

this thing is heavy duty!
cEqy8.jpg

Top is on: 3/4" cdx
gI1tU.jpg

1" hole cut at 12" and 24" marks from both ends of the tabe.
these holes will later be used in assisting the user remove the floating melamine top
mtUoC.jpg

and here we are.... finally done (with malmine top)..I figured I would use melamin because 1.) feels nice 2.)nothing really sticks to it 3.) I can simply remove and cut a new one to size after it gets all banged up and needs replaced.

ONqXb.jpg

now, I need to coat the bench in sanding sealer, then sand it and paint it "Gloss Smoke Grey" just like the doors and cinderblock.

Another 2x4 Basics kit. 2x4 frame, with 3/4" plywood, with a 1/4" hardboard skin. Made this one 3'x5'.

It only looks like a few of you really actually use your garage....

Some of these are so clean i would be afraid to work in it lol.... although i do more than just wax my car in my garage lol...

Just out of curiousity how many of you actually work in your garages on a regular basis? Some of these benches look cleaner and less cluttered than my kitchen counter is right now hahahahahahaha.....

One of mine, everything was built by me off of a table frame that my neighbor gave me for free

Added:
3'x4' 1/2" plate that was rusted beyond all hell and took about 10 different methods and 2 days to get back to bare steel
bottom shelf frame with stainless shelf
rack for clamps etc.
basket
plasma grate with removable slats
shelf for water tray under plasma grate
REED 204R vise
2 trailer jacks along with handles on the opposite side so 1 person can move this 700lb thing around while still keeping a solid base when wheels are raised

Thanks! I added a couple pics of the construction

Bottom shelf after welding/grinding. I didn't have any steel that was long enough to make this so I welded 7 pieces together to make this. Also in the second pic you can see the plate after I hit it with some naval jelly. Still needed a LOT of work to clean it up.
CarJeep105-1.jpg

CarJeep104-1.jpg

Just some little legs I made up to use for leverage. I drilled holes that the tube slides into and the plates hold it against the legs while you lift it to move it. When not in use just turn them around and slide back into the holes out of the way. The welder ran out of argon/Co2 and I didn't have any flux core wire so don't judge me:p

I eventually painted them orange to cut down on shin injuries haha
