I like the clean design, attention to lighting and a place for the computer.

Nice work.

Here's mine - the main bench is two Craftsman ball-bearing service carts with the casters removed, spanned by a bolted-down butcher-block top my kitchen cabinet guy made up for me.

I think the sickest one is the one at votech where I take welding courses.

Its two pieces of (5x8?) 1 inch thick steel plate like they put down on roadways to cover up trenches and stuff like that. All the legs are made of either 3/16x2? angle. This table is freakin insane, and they calculated it to weigh well over a ton. Its not bolted down, but there is no possible way anybody can move this table. You cant shake it at all. Being that it is a welding shop, some crazy projects have been done on it. They have straightened out huge pieces of steel by welding them to the table and using a car jack. No warpage, deformation, etc. There is a 4inch thick slab of steel sitting on the table... no bowing at all. Its crazy.

Hi everyone. I am posting on this thread as a test. I have lurked here for
a long time, but never posted. There are so many great garages, shops
and workbenches on this sight. I thought I would share my workbenches.
They are nothing special. I did not build any of them, but I have modified
a couple of them. Except for the Craftsman bench purchased 20 years
ago ( still with its original MDO/MDF top I might ad) these were all freebies
from working in the retail world, and being at the right place at the right
time. Thanks for all of your great ideas and inspiration.

Looks good kfainf! I really like your chop saw bench. I've been meaning to make a similar one. You can stuff it in a corner and wheel it around, especially if you need to cut long stuff. Nice work.

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words RWD. My garage, shop and
workbenches aren't much, but I do get some things done and I enjoy
having the space. Where are you at in Chicago? I am in Georgia, but
in the early 90's I lived and worked in Wheeling and Mount Prospect.
Met some great people while I was there.

I'm originally from the southwest side but moved to the south suburbs in the early 90's. I just finished building my house and now I'm working on the workbenches for the garage. Lots of ideas here.....

My benches are simple and have been cobbled on for years.

I have found that I do not do much “bench work.”
To go along with my roll around tool box that brings my tools to the project, I have 2 roll around work tables. 2’ x 4’ x 30” high.
That way I have a work space right where I need it.
And at that height I can sit down to do the work.

Mine is an ikea kitchen counter top with several coats of Parks' superglaze covering some stickers and the wood. The base cabinet is an ikea kitchen cabinet and the other two legs are just 4x4's with countersunk lagbolts through the countertop. A couple braces between the legs and presto:

This is my workbench. I built by using 2x4 basics kit. Which consisted of 4 plastic legs and screws and I supplied the 2x4s, I added a plywood top with urathane stain.

Talk about a thread being resurected. Here is mine. I posted it on one of the other forums but here looks like a better place for it.

It is still a work in progress. I will post some more pictures as I get it closer to completion.

Here's one of mine. I have a similar one in the garage. The counter has several clearcoats. When it gets dirty, I clean it with steel wool. I takes about 5 minutes and then it's good as new.

MY dad (machine shop owner) has a rolling table 5' x10' 2 1/4" in steal table. We figure it weighs aprox 3500 lbs. It busted a hydraulic line on the forklift setting in the base we made for it (6x6 box steel) ... it has 4 2500 lb casters on it and takes two people to move it....

I wish I had pictures of the beast.

Mine is basicly 2 parts. built the first section* and didn't want the legs to touch the floor,
IMG_0160.jpg

then I had a second section that came out of my shed, and needed something solid to be able to really beat on things , so I added the 4x4 legs. used 1 inch lag bolts to attech the vice..

Love the coffee pot Krusty! -- a real "workin'" garage and bench.

Here are mine -- One is an old Craftsman ball bearing, the other is homebrew 2x4 construction. I also have a transmission tear down table that gets used for many different jobs -- (makes a great welding table)

That is a good point. If I think back I have made do with a 3'x1' workbench. The rest of the area was for tools. I've always thought a light and a heavy bench would be a good idea. The heavy bench would be a bit lower and have a big vise.

Bevis, my wife built them for me with stuff from Home Depot. 2 x 4 frame, with in stock counter tops. The doors are 1 x 4 frame with cheap tin roof panels for decoration, and to hide all the junk under them. The bar matches too.

And guys, don't start on me about the flag. I turned it around after this pic was taken. For the top of the bar, we used 16 inch floor tiles in a similar color to the work bench top.

cletus, that looks GOOD! I think I might have to borrow your idea. Can you show some detail shots on that bench build?

Smooth - Are those quick-connects you used to connect all those tools? That musta cost a few bucks (each!) but a great idea.
I just use cheap harbor freight multi pac quick connects. I only add a connector when I add a air tool, that way I know if something is missing. I like that I can oil my air tools and that it won't run out into a tool box, plus I could never find them in my tool box.

Not sure what I like best - the method of hanging - or the number of tools! this is a slick set up for the man with many airtools - very SMOOOOTH!
