All the bottom cabinets have 300lb rated drawers that pull out so I can easily put my chop saw, etc in them. Also you get full use of the whole cabinet. Stold the idea from my wifes kitchen cabinets.

since i'm at work and photobucket is blocked here, i'm going to assume that the pic of all the air tools hanging from the cabinet is shown here.

elsewhere folks have asked how to attach these to the cabinets, which smooth answered. another way to do this is to drill a series of holes in a piece of angle iron and attach the angle iron to the wall. works if you don't have the cabinet to drill holes in. a friend of mine who is in the plumbing & a/c business did some demo work in a factory a few years ago and one of the things that they removed form the building was the compressed air system: pipes, disconnects, and all. he wound up with a boatload of quick-disconnects and did the angle iron thing. very cool way to store tools. he turned his disconnects upwards instead of hanging them.

advangage of hanging:
oiling the tools easily

advantage of storing upright:
no dust (grinding dust; flying shavings; etc.) falling into the tool air inlet
you won't drop your tool even if you fail to snap it into the quick disconnect correctly

issues of equal advantage:
very cool looking
everything's in site and you don't have to hunt for tools
all tools are conveniently located and in one place

I picked up 10 metal footlockers that they ripped out of the old jail, to toss...I'm gonna do some repair work to a few along with new paint and use them as cabinets.

Thanks... One mans trash is another mans treasure. I visit 3 to 4 different Industrial Trash Dumpers a week looking for stuff. Its amazing what corporate America puts in trash.

Dang ! I was wondering how you made those out of plywood ? I like them however your no longer my hero . :bounce:

Thanks! I made the conner one to save on space but the others were FREE from Industrial Trash. It took me over 2 years to collect enough for the shop and my garage.

Where did you get those latches for the cabinet doors? I have been looking for some just like that but can't find them.

I was lucky, because the latches were one them when I got them. When I made the conner cabinet, I looked everywhere too, but could not find them. If you find them, please let me know.

There are some very good looking garages here. I'm still debating whether to have tools out hanging or all put away. I do like the uncluttered look but having some common wrenches and sockets out is more practical.

This is my main workbench. Not much - just an old desk with a 3/4" piece of plywood screwed on top. It gets the job done for me though.

I just scored this freebie from Sears while out lookin for deals today. The cart to the left of the workbench was a battery tester. I just stripped it down and its a nice cart.

I bought a bench top for my main tool box due to limited space, but it works, here is a pic of it from when I was still working on the garage setup.

itb76,

The cabinets were bought from a kitchen cabinet wholesale place in Edmonton, there must be one close to you. The workbench is 3 layers of 3/4" plywood with a 16ga stainless steel countertop mounted on it. The countertop was formed in 2 12' pieces, there is a seam but it hasn't caused me any problems yet.

Sorry for the delay, had a lousy December, then Christmas, New Years, etc, etc....

chance would be a fine thing for me to remove enough clutter from my workshop to even get a pic of the bench :)

Love looking at the nice clean ones though.

Well, go ahead, post a pic or two of your workbench!
Gonna need one for the new garage, need ideas/inspiration!

here's mine. screwed into wall with lag bolts, mad from 8x10 / 8x12 and 4x4 posts 1/2" plywood on top of the 8x12 and peel N stick tile for top.. you can wipe up any spills / replace damages tiles...took about 45 minutes to do...

Hi Guys, first post here. I have been reading for a while and followed the workbench post in Nov-Dec while I was working on my own creation. I wondered if the thread would expire before I got my bench finished and thankfully it did not. So, if I can manage to post some pictures from my 'dial-up' connection, here is the steel bench I built.

My bench is from 1.75 sq tubing. Drawers are 0.5 plywood. Drawer slides are ball bearing. Surface is 0.75 and 0.25 plywood. Drawer fronts are a 0.25 plastic laminate with polished aluminium surface. Bench in on wheels but also has four levelling bolts.
Still to be added is a dirt vacuum pick-up underneath which will be plumbed into my dust collector system.

My workbench is also my sewing table.

that takes me back to my childhood!

consew machine, enough material under the large bench to cover a house x2 over, and a modified examination table for the large items. *going to have to get photos of that when i make it back to my parents place.

the smell of yellow glue, foam and tradewinds vinyl! ahhh....
