Kevin54, you have a sharp eye; 64 Lincoln, but you couldn't have known that without a bit more detail. From that angle/perspective, the two cars are identical.... so, well done! Was a daily driver, slammed, no bags, flat black, light shave..... won't bother everyone here with pictures/more details, however, I AM building a new shop, will start posting over there, soon. I'll sneak in the odd pic of this and other projects, just so everyone can see why I'm building/doing certain things, certain ways..... AND... you were oh so close on guessing how I pay for my hobbies; I'm a millwright.

Now this looks like a workshop and not an operating room.

No offense meant to ironroad 9c1 but that work desk looks like a torture rack. The ergonomics are terrible. You can't pull the chair close enough to the work surface/ keyboard because of the cabinets and you have to crane your neck to view the computer monitor mounted 3' too high.

@Kevin54, you posted that there was an unwritten rule about showing the ENTIRE workspace, not just a specific topic.... I'm with you on this; the only reason my benches are this cluttered is because I try to keep "stuff" off of the lathes and mill, sandblast cab, etc..... so, here's more pics of what is going on in the "slightly" more organised portions of the shop.

1st pic is my 1946 9x54 SB C model lathe, great for most of my turning projects! Then, the Princess Auto blast cab, my 1983 Snap On cab combo I bought new, and my cheap roll cab combo. 3rd pic is my monster wood stove, twin skin, oil drip, and a secondary heat collector with fan. Weighs somewhere around 700 lbs, plus an additional 300-400 w/ 2 semi truck drums filled w/ scrap metal bits; very effective for Northern Ontario winters!
Next: My Steinel mill: German made, year unknown, but I would hazard early to mid sixties... Very nice piece, considering my total outlay of $350, with tooling, and vices... I'm not bragging; I want everyone to know that IF they wait long enough, shop around, and horse trade, they can have ANY piece of equipment they want, at a price they can afford!
Last is my 18x36 ancient Oliver lathe.... paid $225 at an estate auction; Weighs 4000 lbs plus, cuts super accurate. Has taper feed and QCGB and came with a ton of tooling; was originally on a line feed, so prolly one of the very first QCGB's out there..... I have paid for this through the buying/selling of another lathe, basically making this lathe a freebie:thumbup:!

Coupla addendums here.... I am mostly into bikes, so here is a small sampling of what I own now; not one single pristine item in the lot, so we won't go there... Pic here of a 1980 Z-1R, 1982 GPZ1100, 1980 GS1000 Cooley Rep, 1984 KZ1100R, and a 1975 Z1 dragbike..... I have others, mostly Kawasaki, mostly projects.... Everything is on hold now, until the big hole in the ground becomes a shop! Pictures forthcoming, as they happen:thumbup:

Thanks!! The arms/dies are JD2 Model 3. I built everything else - cut with either a chop saw (mostly) or hand grinder. Welded with my Millermatic 210.

Here's the finished product:

Sorry for the hijack... :bounce:

Old post but do you have a build thread on this? That is a great set-up!

Wow some great benches on here, after seeing a bunch of pictures of guys mounting the HF 44" box into a work bench gave me a idea. i mounted my existing husky boxes into a workbench to tidy up the garage so here's my build of my bench

2x4 frame work for the bench.
photo-37.jpg

Wrapped the 2x4 framing with mdf for ease of painting and boxes test fitted.
photo-36.jpg

Sprayed the bench with black laquer and clear coated, the top is 3/4" mdf wrapped in sheet metal.
photo-34.jpg

Since i finished building the bench had to re organize it and decide to try and shadow a drawer.

Update on my work bench decided to ditch the top box for more workbench surface. only stuff that was in the top box was wrenches and screwdrivers so i decide to hang them on the wall.

That's a great roundup. Had a nice 79 KZ650, then a KZ1300nthat was a disaster. Got close to buying a Kz900 or Z1 plenty of times.

I just finished this one today, they're made using the Simpson Strongtie kit, with some added material. The top is five 2X6s for a depth of 27", length is 8'. The bottom is birch plywood. I have a total of four of them, they will all receive steel tops over the 2X6s as funds allow. I lag bolt them to the garage wall studs, and they don't move a bit.

My benches are two at 6' x 18" bolted to the wall with 2' between them for the router table. It's not that different from most shallow benches shown here, but the deep aprons are inspired by "boatbuilder's" benches and are for clamping long boards onto them. The tops are 1-3/4" particle board that I guess formerly was an interior industrial door. They have 1/2" mdf sacrificial surfaces on them, slathered in several coats of approx 1:1:1 BLO, kerosene, and teak oil. The wall studs were not evenly spaced apart so I covered the wall with 5/16" sheathing then slatwall on top of that. The shelves are 5/16" sheathing 5" deep.

I finally finished my rebuild. Over the winter I screwed up and tried to use some smaller boards. Didn't hold. So it sat around for a while, the oak top, just sitting on top of the painted dresser. Couple of weeks ago, got around to building a proper frame.

Mine is 24" deep, 96" wide and about 41" tall. It has 4x4 legs and 2x4 cross supports and a double layer of 3/4" plywood on top. Both openings are designed to flush mount HF 13 drawer tool boxes someday down the road. I stained it and used metal framing brackets for the corners and middle support.

I haven't built a bench in a while. But here's the little one I just put together for my 5-year-old son. All of it was scrap I had on-hand, although that plywood might be the most-expensive wood in my shop. But it was leftover from some desks I helped a friend build. He didn't have any room (or use) for the scrap, so it sat for a while in my stack.

He's said he wants to paint the legs brown. I'm okay with that, but I'm stalling. He might at some point change his mind and agree to my suggestion of green.

1/2 is steel top for welding/beating area.
1/2 is wood topped for general use.
Smaller wood working bench on the other side of the shop. Nice to keep the sawdust and such out of the wrenching/dirty area.

Here is the way my bench looks now. Got a locking cabnet on one end and a tool boxes built in in the middle and just picked up the red tool box from lowes for $99.. The other bench is on the other side of the barn I let my son use that one.

Here is a photo of mine - nothing real fancy, but tons of closed storage, solid 2x construction and not too fancy to beat on...
