So the HF 44" box DOES fit underneath a gladiator bench?! I have the 8' bench and got a similar deal from Sears. Not as good but good enough for me. I've been curious about this and every time I am in HF I always forget to measure the height of the bench before I leave to see if it will fit. That's great news. I need more space. My stupid Craftsman 26" triple stack is filled and taking up much needed floor space! Thanks for posting

Steve

yeah, the height of the box is not an issue. the table was able to clear it with room to spare, though i only have about 1/8 of an inch between the top of the box, and the underside of the table. I like the work height of the box, so i wanted to keep it as close to it as possible without touching. The only issue I had fitting the box under the table was due to my gladiator table being the 6ft model as opposed to the 8ft. I had to re-mount the legs just a few inches closer to the edge to be able to have the box & side drawers, but as you can see, it fits like a champ.

So this weekend I 100% finished my bench.

Instead of ordering the $30 Stronghand inserta clamps I made my own from cheap clamps and 5/8" structural bolts with the thread cut off, which cost me $8 each. I'm amazed on how well these clamps hold on to the table, I tried to pull it out while it was firmly clamping some steel and I was starting to lift the bench off of the ground.

Awesome idea. Might borrow for dogs on my wooden workbench.

After looking at all the great benches in this thread, I decided it was time to replace my 3/4" plywood bench top and replace with something nicer. Sale at Sears and I ended up with 8' butcher block and 8' stainless, both 1-1-2" thick.

Still need to caulk around wall, and I want to build some doors around middle shelf, but I like it a lot more than old setup.

Just finished building a workbench around my HF tool chest. Bench top is not attached to the chest but does lightly rest on it (placed wood on chest top to level it off). I change my stuff around to much to make it permanent. Build a little shelf around the storage cabinets. Did a quick painting to blend it all in.

I just got the 2x4 kit today. Can't wait to build it! Are you still happy with it?

This is another one of my favorite threads on GJ.

Here is my two piece Frankenbench:

  • The right half was gifted to me by my neighbor. He used it at his work, where he welded some heavy duty casters on the bottom, for which I am quite thankful because it brought the surface of the table up to a suitable height.

  • The left half was made by yours truly. I made it to the same overall height and depth as the right half (which was acquired first). The milk crates act as drawers for things I often reach for (shop towels, random wood blocks, extension cords, etc.)

  • The fridge was a gift also, but works very well. The handle was made from a garage-sale wrench

  • The surface is ~0.125" rubber, which has held up surprisingly well. I do not do any welding or metalwork that requires excessive heat in this space, so no problems there.

  • I positioned it between my large box and the opposing shelf so that I have some privacy from my neighbors when working on certain things :)Gun1:). Gotta love apartment living.

Mine, dimensions:
37" high, double plywood top 1 1/8-in thick.
12-foot long w/ (6) 2x6 legs.
36" deep, plus I have an 8-foot long, 3.5-in x 3.5-in angle iron, 1/4-in thick, bolted to the front edge. This is a fantastic addition: truly level, you can beat on it, clamp to it, ground to it, etc. I cut the 2 ends at about 30-degrees to remove the corners. If I can manage to get it semi-presentable, I'll take a pic.

Here's mine took a couple of days but I'm happy with it and restored the vise and bolted it down, happy days. Only cost 300 in materials and the top is 3/8 thick

Kitchen counters are 24". There's a reason why so. Use that as a data point.

Because little women have short arms? :)

It's because you don't have to reach so far for the Bacon that the wife just finished frying!!!!!

Upgraded my two craftsman small bottom chests to the HF44+ side cabinet. I rebuilt the workbench top to accommodate the new stuff, and suspended my hose reel instead or having it mounted below.

Just need to glue the aluminum trim in place.

Very nice. I like the reel under there. I've been thinking about getting the HF 44, I have a birthday coming in June so I'll have to start throwing hints around! Looks great!
