Working up a drawing of what I'm thinking of building. I found 2 44" toolboxes to use (one on each side) and the shelves on the other end would be for steel pieces. This would be an assembly/fixture table of sorts, not necessarily a welding table.

Any comments or ideas?

Looks pretty nice if you have the floor space to use it.

Heres the start of mine:

Made from recycled timber i had lying around. A couple of bits of 3x3" fence post, some offcuts of 2x4 and an old sofa bed. Top will be offcuts of 1" thick loft boarding.
Total cost projected as about $5.

I already posted about it in its own thread, but here is my newest bench, dedicated to all my machining/fabricating/metal work. No welding, just cutting, drilling, shaping metal, mostly one off motorcycle parts and custom camera mounts ImageUploadedByTapatalk1423232369.803837.jpg

Here's mine. It's made of some type of butcher block or bowling alley. It was here when I bought the place.

It spans almost the whole end of my 30 x 40. Excuse the mess in front of it.

Old closet doors on old kitchen cabinets. Seems like I'm always recycling and not quite there yet. At least some of the stacked flooring on one surface is gone now.

Anyone here have G-Dok Footmaster installed on their workbench?

I recently sold my 10ft long unistrut-frame w/ Husky boxes workbench (below) and picked up a 5ftx36in butcherblock table top. I'm trying to get (buy or build) a set of legs w/ G-Dok type caster for my small garage. I like the Footmaster but I don't know if they will be practical or not because I want it stationary for everyday but also able to pull out the table in the middle of the garage to work on stuff.

Has anyone used these workbenches before? I think I'll be better off with a 6ft one and the smaller 4ft one plus my roll around box next to get. I was originally going to build a L shape bench but there just isn't enough room.

Had showed a few pix of some of my over flowing workbenches earlier. Here are some more with one new one and some updates to the lathe bench.

This is the new one that I put together to have another surface to pile more **** on. The frame is a good one from a lab. Been sitting in the weeds for a few years. Pulled it out, knocked the worst of the dirt off, put a piece of osb on top and a commercial store shelf on bottom and calling it done for now. Paint may or may not come later. :D

Added a shelf and some pegboard to the back of the lathe bench. Here's a view from the right side while working on it.

And a blurry one from the left showing the high tech light holder. :lol2:

Not fancy although certainly gets the job done. 8'x2'x3' in size, built from 3/4" ply top and bottom shelf. 4"x4" fir corner posts, 2x6" skirting and supports under the top and bottom. Glued (TB3) and screwed(Coated Deck) construction. Very strong, left top only screwed to skirting/supports so I can flip it for longer life. Industrial gray "Rustoleum" on surfaces. Built in 1985, still getting the job done.

25x28 here. Built it in mid 80's. Got a real deal on a special order that the was prepaid and then the buyer bankrupt on so had no choice on size. Note the bends in the wall in the 3rd picture, 98 mph wind gust dropped a 80+ ft pine across it back in the early 90's. :eyecrazy: Quite a sturdy building. Still planning on jacking it back into shape. One of these days. :)

Just purchased my first home back in October.
Finally got all of the moving clutter and junk out. The previous owners left lots of things inside the house and garage.

Anyways to the goodies. There is a detached 16'x30' garage. It has some crappy benches that the original owners probably built 30 years ago and they're in awkward places.

Once I get my car fixed and out of the way I plan on removing and building a bench.
I have an oil furnace in the dead middle of the back wall. Current plans are to build an "L" shaped bench on the left side of said furnace. 7' to the left wall, and 11' towards the front. Should give me plenty of space to move around whatever car I have in there, and still keep my lawn equipment nice and tidy.

Most of this is a learning experience and trying to buy all of the tools I need vs borrowing so I have them. I've always been in an apartment and never needed much.

I'm kind of embarrassed how messy it is, but it gets used. A lot!

I'll be moving the gigantic cabinet to the other side of the furnace.
The bench will go left from the furnace over. The out wards about 10-11 feet.

That current bench is very very rough and unstable.

There are loads of lawn supplies, old tools, and random junk still around from the previous owners. I'll be cleaning it out and getting rid of everything as soon as I'm done working on my car in the next week or so.

Here is one I just built for my basement work/utility room. Right now it just has a Formica top that doesn't really fit, but I had laying around. When it warms up enough to work out in the pole barn I have a solid core door that I have to cut down to size. The final dimensions will be: 78" long, 28" wide and 37" high. I'm a big believer in mobility so all my big tools and benches are on casters. Being 37" high its a good height for me to work standing up. If you notice the cutout on the lower shelf I made that to allow me to shootch in & work while sitting down on a bar stool.

I had Formica on my redial arm saw for years and loved every minute of it. You could write down dimensions with a pencil and when you were done just wipe them off.

The only reason that workbench isn't still Formica is that I embedded the Radial Arm Saw into my metal cabinets with stainless steel tops.

Thought I had already posted in this thread but apparently not.

Here is my bench. Wanted something which would hold 5 tons since I do a lot of metal working & engine work. Not that it will
see that much weight. Nice to have overkill.

It is made with Fir except for the top which is two layers of 3/4" Oak laminate glued together. Painted with Kilz primer then
three coats of oil based green. Surface is single piece 16 gauge aluminum bent over the edges to protect from oil & solvents.
Steel is used in heavy work areas. First job I did on it (last pic) was build wall shelving for this new garage.

My employer finally got me and my service guys our own office/warehouse.
I had a local guy finish a room that had already been built out. I decided to build the workbench myself, to see if my design was good enough for my garage.
I really like how it turned out. May add a couple more 4x4 legs.

^^ Looks great. I like the vise peninsula. A couple more 4x4's would be good too.

Just finished reclaiming my neighbors oak flooring and built a butch block style countertop. Still need to fill the gaps with wood filler and finish it with an epoxy coating before installation.

That top looks too good to use as a bench top.

That's what my neighbor said, lol. The top is pieces of a floor from a tractor trailer that were cut off during its construction and set to be thrown away. My dad saved them from a dumpster. I lag screwed them and put end cut plugs above the lag screws.

I worked for 5 years doing hardwood flooring work while in college so I used the workbench as an excuse to break out my old edger. I do use it as much as I can but unfortunately I sit behind a desk at work way too much.

Mike, that came out GREAT for just old scraps!

JB1, yeah I'd be afraid to use that.. looks like it belongs in a kitchen. :)

GRX - Great job.. that bench looks like it could support my entire car!
