Hello Folks,

What kind of hand soap do you like? I'm talking about soap for when you have been working on something dirty. None of that FuFu smelling stuff!

I do have to say, with the common use of gloves. Most of the time mine are not as bad as they use to be.

So,I like Snap On Nitro Gold or GoJo Natural Orange Gallon - Pumice.

What by your sink? Any cool soap dispensers?

Zep cherry bomb I think is the best, had it at the old job. At work now, standard old gojo, works fine. At home I'm currently using orange goop. It works fine, but not saying I won't try something eles when it's gone.

These blue towels called "Scrubs in a Bucket" - order them online by the case. Then by the sink, one of those old school powder boraxo dispensers and a bottle of joy dishsoap, along with a hand scrubbing brush...

If it doesn't come off my hands, I must have changed skin color!

The only hand cleaner I have found that stands head and shoulders above the rest is Stoko Kresto. I was absolutely blown away how much better than Gojo this stuff is.

Nothing special here soap or dispenser wise. I've been using Boraxo powdered hand soap for 25 years or so in my garage and shop. Although it can be hard to find sometimes. The chain grocery stores don't seem to carry it so I buy it at our locally-owned markets. And when I do I usually buy all they have in stock at one time - eight to 12 cans. The only problem I have with it is the steel ring on the bottom of the can leaves a rust stain on my sink. So, to mitigate it I wrap duct tape around the bottom.

Gojo wipes on the shop as I still don't have my water hooked up. I've got Kresto EF in the house to take care of what the Gojo didn't get. Once the water is done then it'll be the Kresto all the time.

Dawn works well, lava soap works excellent, zep cherry bomb if you can find it. My favorite is kresto (the one with walnut shells in it).

By now I wear disposable gloves for nearly anything however. Otherwise i cant ever get my hands totally clean.

At work we used to have powdered Boraxo but they quit supplying it to the labs several years ago. We just use Lava bars now. At home I used to use Goop or Gojo until we met a local lady who makes goats milk soap. My wife bought a bar she calls 'Red Bandana' that has coffee grounds in it for me to try. That stuff works better than anything I've ever used. I also don't have splits and cracks in my hands anymore in the winter. I have a pile of it in case she ever stops making it and buy bars here and there at the local farmers market from her in the summer to add to the pile.

Boraxo is the best then Dawn dish soap works good. Can't stand the smell of GoJo the original stuff. The citrus one are ok. Cherry bomb work good also. I used most all of them over the years.

Zep makes a purple one that I can't remember the name of. It puts cherry bomb to shame

I have been using Borax-o for about 65 years. I remember when it came in an oval shaped black and white metal can, with a red cap. I just set the new containers in a plastic jar cap on the sink.

A year, or 2 ago, they increased to height of the container by 1.5" and upped the price by 20 cents. However, they still only put 12 ounces of powder in the container. Sort of a different twist on a smaller container, with less contents and keeping the original price. The bottom line is that you pay an extra 20 cents, for added air space in the container. Got to love marketing ploys. --- John

Kresto type soap, the light brown with the walnut shells. Ive used snap on and several other brands seem to have all worked the same. I have a few gallon jugs as I get it in bulk. Everything else seems to tear up my hands.

Best I've seen or used is from Crown lift trucks, works way better then other gojo type hand cleaners, doesn't dry your hands out, smell decent and doesn't take much to really get even the nastiest gunk off your hands. Several friends who are pro mechanics and have tried every type of soap you can think of from evey tool truck and other source swear by it.

Usually Boraxo from a 5lb box dispensed from a model 36 dispenser like in the photo. Fast orange is my go to for really greasy cleanups, followed by the Boraxo. I want to try the Kresto stuff sometime.

Gojo orange works pretty good. Anything with abrasive sand/shells whatever it is works best for grease dirt oil etc.

Any good Hand Soap will work with a very simple green worn out scrubber your wife has decided to discard. I 'am talking about the 3M Brand green pads here. The discarded scrubber will get down into the pores of your skin and remove the grime left by these harsh scrubbers put into the hand soap. I like any creamy hand soap and it does not make your skin on your hands rough and your wife will love you for it when the time comes for those special moments with her!
Try it and you will use the soft cream soap every time.

Did it look like this. I use a little of all the cleaners mentioned. I think my thumb and forefingers are permanently black.:lol:

I make my own. copied the gritty girl formula. I call it "Man Hands". when I mix it up I always pass out a sample to my friends who love it.

Man Hands Mechanics Soap (It IS your grandfathers hand cleaner)
2/3 Borax – avaialable at Walmart in soap aisle
1/3 Soap – microwave 1/3 of a bar of your choice bath soap until it bloats like a huge marshmallow, let it cool and grind it up to a fine powder in blender.
Add 1/3 ground bar of pumice (cheap pumice bar from Walmart personal care aisle near foot care) can also substitute Tripoli powder if available. take the pumice bar wrap in newspaper and stomp/smash with hammer, whatever to break it up. then use a rolling pin or chunk of cold rolled steel to be more manly and roll it to a semi-fine powder.

mix it up and store in container of your choice. add orange or lemon flavored unsweetened koolaid if you want it to smell, a little ascorbic acid from the koolaid helps the formula but I prefer it plain.

I've become such a glove user that it just hardly ever comes up anymore. I've gotten away with Irish Spring bar soap for whatever minor things are happening to my hands before I realize, "Hey, time for gloves." And... now this sounds ****... I use that bar soap to wash my gloved hands sometimes in the middle of a job. Gloves clean up fairly easily.

Now, if I'm doing a really ooky job (CV joint rebuild), yes, the gloves are getting thrown out frequently during the job.

At a shop I used to work at, the owner got this stuff and I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. It was a typical style orange/citrus hand cleaner, but it was by far the BEST hand cleaner I've ever used.
He used to tell me that ZEP salesmen (usually a different person every time) would come in every now and then to give their sales pitch. They'd start by asking what kind of hand cleaner he used, so he would show them the bottle. The salesman's response was always, "Ok, have a nice day." I never believed him until I actually saw it happen.

Edit: FOUND IT! The stuff is actually made locally here in Jacksonville, FL.
The Scrubber

It's a little pricey, but believe me it's well worth it. I don't see the price listed on their website (not a very good website, at that), but I remember it being somewhere around $25 / gallon.

I quit using hand cleaner and went to Kimberly Clark Wypalls. I have a container in the shop, truck, tractor or wherever. Amazon warehouse deals makes them fairly reasonable.

You won't find anything better then ZEP TKO, but Stoko Kresto is a close second.

These are expensive but a little dap goes a long way. Much better then a handful of Go Jo ****.

Boraxo works pretty well. Cherry bomb is also good, but dries my hands out.

I can't see how anyone could get anything done with rubber gloves on. I've tried it. Even the heavy duty ones are cut to pieces in 30 minutes.

IMO this stuff beats them all. I have been using this for 30+ years and have converted many shop's to use it. its biggest draw back these days is the price :shocking: I just bought a case and it was $25 per gallon :scared: but if you know how to use it. It saves you money. Its even good on burns just don't scrub it in

I have more questions than answers.
Dirt. And well nothings cheaper. If I'm out where nothing else is available it works awesome and will clean up your tools as well.

Used to pre use hand lotion as I have dry hands. They would clean up much easier.

$$ dollar store dish soap. Can even use it to clean greasy parts as well.
