Wow! I had to buy some lumber to install a window and talk about sticker shock. 2X6x10’s were $11.49 each at Home Depot. I couldn’t find 2X8’s or 2X10’s so I built my header out of a 2X12x16 (cut into three 5’ lengths) and it cost me $38.

What are you seeing for lumber prices in your area?

What do you guys think this translates to for overall cost increase to build a pole-barn, compared to 6 months ago?

Pretty horrendous. Not to mention that most builders are busy so they are charging top dollars and that is if you get lucky to get on their schedule. When we ordered our trusses it was 5 weeks out. By the time they got delivered it was 2 months out.

There has been many threads about the current cost of lumber.

Anecdotal info. Was just organizing my invoices and my Jan 20 order order was $4.99 per 2x6x12 #2 SYP from local lumber house. Same board was between $10-$11 in my snap order quotes from Lowe's and HD at that same time and I just went to HD online and that same board is $16.58 today...bigbox stores may be convenient but I've never found them to be a better deal on any sticks or bricks.

Prices are up for sure on lumber but I just priced metal panels and I'm at the same cost from a year ago.

Lumber Prices are controlled by Supply & Demand, if we would not buy wood because of the high prices; the sellers would have to lower their prices or eat wooden sandwiches.

Roughly ballpark ..... 200 - 250% posts, trusses, all lumber.

Pretty quick to roughly figure for a pole barn due to simple "modular" construction.

Steel and fasteners guessing not much increase ??? but really need to reprice everything if you are wanting to do the job.

Shopping for best prices more important now than ever as individual items from different sellers seem to be varying a higher % than previrus prices.

where are you getting your rough ballpark from? Material is ~20% of the truss cost. My local guys are on a shorter lead time than a year ago and im seeing a ~10% price jump for trusses delivered.

Bob - Good point, I was mistaken.

.. I just wrongly assumed threw in trusses cause they are lumber... my post is pretty close otherwise.

I was raised on always using trusses and never thought about what their matl cost was.

Mine went up 50%. Did not pull trigger, not worth it. The random length framing lumber futures are down from $1000 in sept to 550ish right now.

I am hoping [emoji120] that winter slows midwestern construction demand down enough for the lumber suppliers to catch up and I can be in a barn by next June. Who knows.

Ken's Carpentry does weekly updates on lumber pricing on youtube.
Said he noticed the first dip, albeit slight, this week.
He usually buys 6 months worth at a time, but about out and can't really bid new jobs with wild market prices.

Are you getting a volume discount due to the size of your orders? I talked to a local lumberyard about pricing on some materials four months ago and the prices were substantially higher than a big box store at the time.

A different local lumberyard sells some of their clearance material on Craiglist. The prices are higher than I can buy the same stuff at a big box store at retail pricing!

Jan 2020 7/16 OSB was $9.99. Today October 2020 7/16 OSB $25.05.

A sheet of 3/4in plywood sub floor is $52. Prices are causing me to wait on my cabin build.
