My turn! I’ve had a very old Speed-Aire 60 gallon in my garage for 20+ years. Was probably 10+ years old when I got it. I’ve rebuilt the head once already.

Next month we’re moving to our final “retirement” home on a lake. I’m having to do a lot of downsizing. Considering I’ve gone to just about battery everything, I figured now is the time to make the jump. Going down in size to a very deep single car garage.

Planning on advertising our house as a car guys dream with a three car wide garage that stays cool during the summer with a 16X24 workshop attached in the basement. Going to leave the old compressor, galvanized hard pipes and the hose reel I recessed into the ceiling between the doors

Since we’re going to be on the water, I’m sure there will be lots of water toys to inflate as well as the “might need it one day” aspect with some of my air tools. So I’m looking at a 24-30 gallon belt driven upright compressor that’s 110V. .

What’s a good choice these days?

I bought a husky 304h 30 gallon, oil lube compressor a few months ago. It’s much quieter than the oil free craftsman unit it replaced.

All depends on how much you'd like to spend, like anything. If you want something robust, then go with a splash lubricated pump that has a decent electric motor on it. If you want more air than what the cheaper splash lubed units provide then step up to a 2stage in the 30 gallon size.

If you prioritize noise levels then you may look more into the "quiet" series by California air or Kobalt etc.

If you truly just want something that is just going to collect dust and pump up an occasional tire then really any 20-30 gallon compressor is going to serve you well.

The highest performing readily available machine in that form factor is the one made by Atlas Copco and sold under the Quincy and Chicago Pneumatic brands. It may also be sold under another brand but regardless, they're all the same. The model for the Quincy is Q12124VPQ. It makes 7.4 cmf at 100 PSI.
